i try to make an animation. I create a cylinder and i want to rotate it by longitudinal axis. i click 'components', select the cylinder and after i click 'position' to select the axis that axis system appears in the right side of the cylinder not in the middle. If i continue whit this settings the cylinder will rotate by a circle not by his longitudinal axis. How can i move that axis sistem in the middle of the cylinder? I can drag it but can't place it exactly in the middle.

3ds Max Animation :: How To Lock Z Axis Of Object With Upper Arms Z Axis

Jan 25, 2013

I'm rigging a shoulder pad to a biped and I'd like it to only rotate on one axis. Google hasn't been that useful, and I hope I don't need scripting for this kind of minor thing. I'm rather new to 3Ds Max Design but I'm learning fast and liking it so far!

I've attached what I want to effectively accomplish. I'm looking for a way to lock the z-axis of the object with the upper arm's z-axis.

EDIT: Reduced picture size.

AutoCad :: Cannot Add Dimensions On Z-axis

Mar 21, 2013

I'm currently making some drawings of a piping system for an oil rigg process system I made in Inventor. I was now supposed to draw an Isometric drawing of some pipes, but i don't think i knew what isometric meant so i made it in 3D. So i made a full xyz 3d drawing instead of drawing 3d on an xy axis. Still, i don't think there will be problems because i'm only supposed to take pictures of this and add it to a repport.

The problem i have is adding dimensions to the lines on the z-axis, they keeb gluing to the xy-axis. It's probably a stupid question, but I just can't seem figure it out. I added a picture of it. Now if i made an ISOmetric drawing i would not have had this problem, hope i don't have to start again.

AutoCAD .NET :: Rotate Ucs About Z-axis?

Mar 22, 2012

when you have a 3D-object, with a specific origin, i would like to know how it is positioned in space, X, Y, and Z coordinates, but also A, B, and C (like Tilt, Roll, Pitch), where A is rotation Angle around Z-axis, B around Y-axis, and C around X-axis. I am using this for a kuka robot

i can change the position of the UCS, but don't know how to only rotate the ucs about the Z-axis

AutoCAD 2013 :: Not Drawing In Z Axis?

Nov 11, 2013

1. With Ortho on, I can't draw a line, circle or else in z axis. In other words, if I select 'Front Plane in orhtographic view', I can't draw up vertical any line, circle or else.

2. With Ortho off, I can draw a line in z axis (Front Plane in orthographic view) but can't draw a circle yet.

3. With orhto on, I can draw a line in z axis (Isometric view) but can't draw the circle.

I think this problem is mainly due to UCS as I've accidently met such a problem in AutoCAD 2007. But restoring to previous view, the problem was resolved there.

what is to be done to enable drawing in z direction.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Rotate UCS By Z-axis

Jun 27, 2012

The behavior in AutoCAD 2012 has changed with regard to the UCS command. I am trying to rotate my UCS along the Z-axis.

In 2011, I could enter UCS [enter] Z [enter] then select 2 points on *any* line using END point osnaps to have the ucs rotate along the Z-axis at the angle of the selected line.

Now in 2012 when I enter UCS [enter] Z [enter], a rubber-band line displays anchored from a pre-selected point which appears to be the drawing origin, usually 0,0,0.  I am only allowed to select a single point, which results in the UCS NOT rotating to match the line as before.

I am aware that I could now use the OBject option, and then select one end of the line.  This is fine except it does not work if I select a line that is part of an attached xref.  With the old method in 2011, I could select 2 points of *any* line.

I am also aware that I could "type" in a value in both cases above but that option is too time-consuming and error-prone. Are there any legacy options available for the UCS command to make it work as before?  Or is there a way to override the UCS-Z command option to not pre-select the first point at the drawing origin?

AutoCad :: Dimensions Floating On Z Axis?

Nov 22, 2011

I have a dwg that when dimensioned (or when inserting new text) the dimensions are off the 0 axis on the z. The only reason I think that, is it looks blurry till I flatten it(checked the properties before flattening and it says 0). What I don't understand is why its still happening after the whole drawing has been flattened.

AutoCad 3D :: Rotate UCS Around Z-Axis Only - Functionality Gone?

Dec 5, 2013

This week I upgraded from 2011 to 2014 and have noticed a major change in rotating the UCS around only the Z-axis.

Looking at the image below (the blue box is just to represent the relationship between the pipes):

I want to, as a simple example, rotate the UCS around the Z-axis from the end of one pipe to the end of the other. In 2011 UCS, Z would allow me to select the end of one pipe and the end of the other and rotate to the angle of the red line shown.

In 2014 UCS, Z rotates the UCS from some unrelated point.
In 2014 UCS then selecting the two ends rotates the UCS X-axis to the direct line between the two.

In a working scenario the end of the two pipes would be in vastly different positions. Drawing a line between them, flattening it then using UCS, E on the flattened line give the functionality I want, but is a very slow way of doing it.

In 2011 if I wanted to rotate the UCS around the Z-axis I would type UCS, Z then select 2 points and the UCS would rotate around the Z-axis but the X & Y axis would remain as it was. This is no longer the case in 2014, how do I do this now?

AutoCAD 2013 :: UCS - Rotating Around Z Axis

Apr 3, 2012

I frequently rotate my drawings around the Z axis however when trying to do this in 2013 it only appears to let me rotate at 0,0,0 rather than clicking on 2 points in the drawing to reference the angle at which I wish to rotate to........ Im not sure if this function has changed completely or is there something I need to set to still allow me to do this?

When working in 3d the crosshairs seem disappear off the screen when i have zoomed in too far, as iff the crosshairs are located on 0 in the z access.

Also, and this could be related, when i try to snap to anything in the vertical it always snaps to 0 in the z axis. This makes it impossible to move anything vertacally by snapping.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Hide Sub Xrefs

Oct 15, 2013

I am working on a rather big xref setup. The MAIN file has got about 10 OVERVIEW files refferenced in, each of the OVERVIEW files got another 15-20 DRAWING files attached.

Now when i attach OVERVIEW to MAIN it brings in all the DRAWINGS as unique xrefs as well.

Of course i want to see the DRAWNIGS in the MAIN file, but I'd prefer not to see them in the xref-manger  (where i want to see only the OVERVIEW files).

An additional problem is that the DRAWINGS contain pictures on layout-tabs which are also shown in the MAIN file xref manager.

So long story short: is there a possibility to "hide" the sub-xrefs in the xref-manager?

AutoCad :: Hide Lines Behind Railings

Mar 25, 2012

I am using AutoCAD 2008... just 2-D design, nothing fancy.

When I draw porches with railings, I often spend many minutes trimming out the objects behind the railing. So if my metal top rail is 1" thick (running horiz) and my vertical rails are 1" wide, 5" on center, I have to trim out all the lines inside those 1" rails.

I received an Autocad file from another designer not too long ago that had some sort of clear fill inside his rails, so the rails hid what was behind it (but it was not colored fill, black or white, or whatever... it matched the background color). If I erased the rail, the window behind it was there in it's entirety.

I tried to 'erase' the fill, but it does not seem to be there. I am so tired of spending 20-30 minutes per house just trimming out the doors and windows behind.

AutoCad :: Hide For Plotting Not Using Pen Tables

Feb 14, 2011

I am experiencing a problem with plotting a 3-D object correctly! Using AutoCAD 2011, I created a 3-D object, inserted it into our "carrier sheet" model space, then gave it a view port - looks great on the screen! When it plotted out it was really light - it was the only thing on the sheet that was wrong. I messed around a little and found that it has something to do with the plot option of "3-D hidden" & "hidden". When using "legacy hidden" it plots out at the correct line weights, however, the arrows are all "open" - the arrows are filled when using the other options. I went back into the 3-D object dwg file and tried plotting it straight from the source file - I get the same results. We use color to determine the plotted line thickness and these schemes are set correctly, etc.

I have tried to look for a setting that would force the plot styles .
