AutoDesk Smoke :: Hide Or Unhide Axis Or Other Nodes In Action?
Jan 17, 2014How do I Hide or Unhide Axis or other Nodes in Action?

View 3 Replies1) Is there a way to hide all axis icons in Action apart from selected ones? Even though they turn grey it's often very hard to see the selected one in big comps.
2) In HD text module how can I see the full picture? While postioning text I can't see the bottom of the picture on either the preview monitor or the broadcast monitor.

I have a project where I have a high res of an astronaut on the moon.
The elements are:
Foreground: Mid shot of Astronaut
Mid: Moon (as in the ground he is standing on behind him)
Background: Space
I've managed to separate out the elements, position them in actions' 3d space and even add a nice little lens flair in the reflection of his helmet as the camera slowly tracks from left to right. The effect (well we've all seen it before) is that it adds 3d depth via parallax scrolling to the photo.
What I can't achieve is a realistic reflection of the moon surface (i.e. the ground in front of him) reflecting in his helmets mirror-like visor.
In order to fake the reflection I essentially want the motion in the reflection of the moons surface to be opposite to that of the mid ground behind him.
My plan was to re-use the mid ground moon surface flipped horizontally and view it through a matte/alpha describing the visors shape and then animate it moving in the opposite direction with a couple of simple keyframes.
How I tried to achieve this was:
Prepare the layered file in photoshop including helmet visors alpha layer (a simple coloured layer with a hole in it)
Bring into action and separate out all the layers in 3d ensuring the helmet matte remains in the same position as the astronaut layer
Animate camera tracking
Come out in to connect fx
Dupe the action node twice and rename the new ones 'helmet alpha' and 'moon reflection'
Go into 'helmet alpha' and delete everything except the camera and the helmet alpha
Go into the 'moon reflection' and delete all except the camera and the moon surface
Go back into cfx and use some compositing node to flip the moon surface (and plug the moon surface action node into that..?)
Then create a new node which allows me to plug the helmet alpha into the alpha channel and the moon surface into the fill channel
Create another new node which allows me to combine the result of this previous node with the original node and layer it on top.
I've got a window to hammer the machine for a day! In an action schematic I know I can save selected nodes and media. I now want to load those saved nodes into another action but the load tab won't open to give me the options of load all, add nodes, add nodes & media.

2) The Burn for Mac OSX 2012 that comes with the installer disk?
3) or Burn for Mac OSX 2012 SP2 that I can't seem to find anywhere?
I've tried the first two and can't get them running properly. The systems are a mixed lot of XW9400s and XW8600s all with QFX3800 cards and 8GB of ram running the ADSK Redhat 5.3 Burn install and generic 6.0 DKU install.
What is the ability to add multiple output nodes in CFX as same as the way you can in flame.
The default / primary CFX output would link back to the timeline as usual, and then other outputs would render back to a selectable folder in your project library.
OR
Quite often you are creating alternate versions for your edit, so I thought a reasonably elegant solution to route the various version outputs back to the timeline would be to place them into a container.
So on your timeline, the outputs you processed in CFX appears as a container, with the default / primary output visible - inside the container are the various outputs you just rendered. Depending on focus in the container will give you your different version back in the timeline.
But I guess the only snag with this idea is that you can't edit CFX once they are inside of a container. So you would "Uncontain" - modify one of the outputs and then "Make Container" again for the sake of keeping the timeline clean and manageable.
Scenario: You need to make a film strip with 30 stills from the same clip. Then you take a clip, creates 30 Mux nodes, freezes the frames that you need and feeds into Action.
Problem: You have to manually go into each Mux node and puts them to repeat the last frame.
Solution: It should be possible to select multiple equal nodes, and change any parameter contextually, all at once, like any other graphic soft that i know. Another thing, these values must accept simple mathematical functions, i.e. : +10, -15, * 20...
I can't seem to remove nodes from the Matte Blender by holding down the "Control" & "Option" keys as stated in the online tutorial.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen i'm drag the cursor across the connecting line between a clip and a node or between two nodes.
The arrowed line is missing , i can only move the node not able to cut the link between them.
How to bypass/disable multiple nodes without have to do it one by one ?
The other strange thing is when i think i can do it by define a new hotkey for disable/enable the bypass button, i found that everytime i change a hotkey for the bypass button, it will apply only to current node. So do i have to set hotkey for every single node ?? and of course everytime i create new cfx , the hotkey will be reset.
Is there any way to turn on motion blur in Axis on the time line like you can in Action?
I looked in setup and it doesn't seem to be there, hoping I'm just missing something and I don't have to hall this text into action and back each time it gets updated.
For example as a txt file or something like that? (out of action)

I'm in CFX in the Modilar Keyer. I loaded a setup previously with GMASKs previously applied on a HD shot. I now need to scale the GMASK for a 4K HD shot (200%). I was told to go in the GMASK schematic (the one that looks like action) and add a parent axis to move all the masks at once. WHen I'm in GMASK schematics I don't have access to a node bin. Where do I add an AXIS to parent all my masks in there?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I enter Stabilize/Track through the Axis editor I arrive at a blank viewer screen with no footage. I get tracker target boxes, but no footage to track. Stabilizer/Stabilize works fine, but the tracker does not seem to work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working with 1080i50 footage. Interlaced, upper field (F1). When I apply an Axis effect to a clip in the timeline an render that, the result is wrong.
I'm not sure what exactly it is. Either the fields are inverted or somehow 'melted' into one frame. In the Axis editor the Interlaced/Progressive switch is set to Interlaced. If I set it to Progressive the rendered result is ok.
I'm trying to make a PIP in a timeline with Axis. PIP is a easy thing so I made it of course.
But the problem is When I use multiple PIPs. There's no Global axis like in Action, so I couldn't control PIPs at once. I thought make a Gap effect with axis or Container would be work, but It didn't work as I thought.
Do I have to make a mask for PIP? Is there any way to move, rotate, scale them together easily? & Axis could have only one image? In animation view, there's a Global axis and a image axis.
How to hide selected clips in timeline without turn off layer visibility (eye icon) ? i found no hotkey and also there's such option in contextual (RMB) menu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoing a conform with footage coming from about 12 different external drives. Many of the folders on the drives are AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM crap that I will never use (They've all been converted to ProRes files on the drives). Smoke takes FOREVER to scan these folders.
It's generally our practice to not alter production drives - but I'd be willing to rename folders if I could trick Smoke into ignoring them during the relink/ search.Could I rename them with a period (or maybe # ?) at the head? (I'm not terribly Linux savvy, so just wondering if there are tricks I'm not aware of that might also work on Mac.)
Is there a way to hide the bottom Tabs? MediaHub-Conform-Timeline-Tools
I can use a little bit more of space.
I need to animate the hide and unhide of a set of objects, I know I can use the visibility track to do this, but I have two issues with this, one, this will not hide it from the view while animating or looking at it in wireframe, which makes it difficult since I'm doing some previz and I need the object gone from the wireframe view... Two, there is an object (I bought them) that refuses to take the visibility track coming from the master object, and it does not have its own one, so I don't have a clue why it ignores it.
Also know that I can suddenly move the object out of the camera view, but was trying to see if there was something a bit more elegant than this, a script to animate the hide and unhide of a groped object would be the ideal thing, but searching the web for it didn't return anything useful.

I've done a "slide in" on my incoming clip but thats just half of it. Also, I saw somewhere that you can reveal the axis nodes on a timeline axis effect, but I'll be damned it I cant remember how.
I want guassian blurred text over another layer. Using a matte, how can you blur text outside of the matte instead of just blurring the inside?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt would be nice to have the full set of blend modes available to the AXIS tool in the timeline.
Quite often the most used blend modes for quick color treatments....Overlay, Hard Light and Soft Light etc...are not available in the timeline AXIS soft effect.
Is this a limitation of the soft effect as opposed to using ACTION or say Blend&Comp nodes?
New users would probably not find where the extra layer blend modes where, and may simply think that Smoke lacks these most used blend modes.

I have a problem everytime i apply the axis effect on a clip in the timeline. What happens is that smoke starts loading the effect, but hangs there, and after a while a message comes up saying that due to a software error smoke must close. But the only way to close it, is only if i do force quit process through terminal. Everything else works really well though, besides this specific issue with axis effect. This by the way didn't happen with Smoke 2013 SP2, maybe a hardware compatibility issue?
here is the smoke log file from console:
