I am creating a border and making it attributed. I have the drawing number showing up in the title block and in the opposite corner of the page. I want to link the two somehow so that when one is edited the other automatically changes to match. Is this possible to do?

I am currently using AutoCAD 2011 but there is a couple in our office using 2012. When they open a drawing with attributed text it shifts the text, usually to the right. The text height stays the same as well as the vertical position. It appears the text letter spacing (kerning I think it is called) is adjusted to be closer and it shifts to the right. If I click on the text and then click on the grip for the text twice it puts it back to what it is suppose to be or was. This doesn't happen in any logical order it is random through out the drawings, making it harder to find and fix them all. I can save the file close it, re-open it and the text shift happens again, randomly.
We have only noticed this on drawings that have been opened with 2012. Is that a problem with 2012? Is there a fix for it? I found while GTS that someone clicked on the annotate>annotation scaling>sync scale positions so I tried that and it didn't adjust the text/attributes back to where they are suppose to be/where. The shift happens as stated while re-opening a drawing, also when doing a regen, I also noticed it happening while doing a simple copy/paste of a part that isn't shifting. I hope this makes sense as to what is happening, I would post a drawing but they REALLY frown on us "sharing" our drawings.
issue regarding attributed text updating when reinserting a DB. I have text override in a dimension, inserted a field into the text override but whenever I reinsert the block and change the values, the text does not update.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a dynamic block with attributed text that I want to remain horizontal right reading even when the block is rotated. I have set up the parameters and the actions how I was taught and even revisited one of AU's downloadable lessons to try to get it correct. my settings are the same as in the lesson. I have the rotate parameter / action set to only the geometry and did not select the attributed text. I also have the attribute locked. Nothing I do gets the text to rotate with the block and stay horizontal and right reading. It will either rotate the text along with the block or just leave the text stationary. I have tried adding a point parameter to the text but that doesn't seem to work either. I am using Base ACAD 2010 I have also attached the block for troubleshooting.

I have exhausted my options for figuring it out, do I need to reload the program? is there a restore default option? ( I haven't found one yet) I am running 2011 LT
Is is possible to have an attributed block in a marker style or note style? I would like to have editable text upon insertion of the marker or text? I have tried unsuccessfully to get it to work. Does the fact that C3D displays the marker and note as objects prevent it from being editable? Is there a workaround?

Is there any way to add numbers in an attributed block? (I have a lisp that works on text & mtext, but not attributes)
1.1. Example: Like if you have a block with two attributed text fields, the 1st field {x} is a number (fixture unit), and the 2nd field {y} is a number (pipe size). I would want it to only add the 1st text fields. [If possible then change the 2nd text field according to a changeable chart. (see #2)]
1.1.1. This is how the block looks like: x (y")
1.1.1.1. x could be any number from 0.5 – 10,000 (only using 1 decimal place, and only as needed)
1.1.1.2. y could be any number from the following list: ½, ¾, 1, 1¼, 1½, 2, 2½, 3, 3½, 4, 5, 6
Is there a way like in excel that you can set up a formula that will give a numerical result depending on other input? Like pipe size that change depending on the number of fixtures. There would need to be two different formula, one for hot and one for cold values (The value would be set at the beginning of the job; typically these values would not change later in the job). This could be separate text or if possible using the attributed block as described in #1.

I've previously used Autocad 2008 Electrical. I've just started a new job and I have been asked to update some electrical drawings from a recent project. My current employer use Autocad 2010 as opposed to Autocad Electrical which I have previously used.
The problem I have is that I have a drawing with a table linked to an Excel spreadsheet that displays an I/O table.
Since the drawings have changed the amount I/O has increased.
I have a new excel sheet with the new I/O list which is larger than the old I/O list.
When I "point" the Table to look at the new spreadsheet in the "Modify Excel Link" Dialogue and alter the "Link to Range" Tab to my new desired excel sheet and apply the changes the table. The new excel sheet populates the table correctly until the end of the old table used to stop then the format goes all to hell and the new part of the table is way out of scale and at 90 degrees out to the original table.
I think I am possibly missing a step somehwere when updating the Data Table Links!?!?....Do I need to alter the table properties somewhere too?.
I'm currently working with AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion. The drawing has hundreds of callouts for different elements all over the site. The callouts are in form of a block, with a number inside. The number corresponds to a notes page which lists each detail in chronological order. (nothing new there)
Due to an expanding and shifting job site, notes have been added and deleted. The problem is now we have to go back through and update all the callout blocks. For example: We have 75 notes in our list, if note number 3 changes or is deleted, we need to go through and change all the numbers in all the blocks to reflect the change to the list.
Is there a way to link blocks to an mtext list? or possibly a spreadsheet?
I have a user that wants to be able to either link dimensions to other dimensions, such as a ref dim to a live dimension or while inserting text in a note on the drawing to be able to list a dimension within that text string to a dimension of the part so as the part updates, the dimension in the text sting updates.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a little knowledge of AutoCAD and I do a lot of reports using only AutoCAD, each sheet has a border on it with the project info, no., etc. Is there a way we can link the text blocks in page 1/layout 1 to the other pages/layouts so I don't have to go to each layout and edit the text block individually? Also, i did not draw the template so as to how it was constructed i do not know.

When you double click on the block I don't want to enter "A" as the attribute value twice. I just want to type "A" one time and automatically receive it on the other position as "A" too.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI need to cut a car image out of a picture and insert it with a wildlife background but i must be able to place the car pic in a certern position in the background.
1.I was able to cut the image out using the pen tool then seleting new layer and then pasting in there. Now I want to make the pic a bit smaller (like click on the image and move the mouse in to make it smaller) But just not winning.
2.How can I open a new background image in the same project. when ever i click new it opens a new project and when i select new layer and copy and paste the image i want to use as a background it views as a thumbnail.
3. is it possible to blend the car image with the background like t is a origanal.
4. Oh and sorry is there a easy way of cutting a image then the pen tool my hand is not steady and i always seem to cut into the image or way out .
Is it possible to link text to each other through visibility states without creating a block within the DB? I have 2 visibility states. Right Section, and Left Section. All notes and text stays the same, geometry is the only thing that mirrors between states.
The hope is that when I update the text on the "Right Section" state, that the same text on the "Left Section" state automatically updates with what I did on the "Right Section".
I solved this by creating multiple blocks within the DB. That works great, however there HAS to be an easier way to do this.

Is it possible to treat one text object as a "master style" text object and link other text objects to its font, kerning and other qualities, so that only changing the font of one text object impacts the font choice of many objects?
Kind of like "styles", but as a "work around" for there not being text styles in After Effects.

The way I do it right now is to make a black rectangle, then fit a smaller white rectangle inside it, and delete the overlapping black area, that leaves me with just an outline of whatever width I choose.
I'm wondering if there is a simple way to create a 1 pt. border on my transparent background. I want this as a "cutting guide", but my "inside edit/stroke" is not working on the transparent b/g.

I create a new image in Photoshop, I always get a black border. I thought this was just while working in Photoshop, but when I save the file and try to view it the darn border is still there.
