I'm attempting to change the descriptions of items in my drawing that say S/40 to S/80. It's too time consuming to individually change every description. Is there a way to change them all at once? Or maybe point to a database for the description?
(AutoCad 2011, CADworx Plant 2010)
I am hoping to link text items between pages and items in the drawing such as elevations?
So, ideally, I would have a front page to my drawing set, and this would have a 'Contents' type table on it, with the title name of each drawing in one column, then the drawing number in the next column. This is the tricky bit, someone must know: If i was to change the name / number of any item in this table, could it change also (linked to) the following items:
Drawing title (as a text idem on the layout sheet that that drawing relates to)
Drawing number (as a text idem on the layout sheet that that drawing relates to)
Elevation call-out (on the plan view)
And possibly:
Excel reference cell
Drawing layout tab title (this might be pushing it!!)
Perhaps this could be done by linking to an external Excel spreadsheet with these titles modified in there? I'm not sure. This would be ideal as typing into excel is a lot easier than the triple click text modify method required currently.
I waste a lot of time renaming and updating sheet names / titles / numbers. Are there standard templates for drawing sets that may have this built in available anywhere that I could try?
Can the description be changed for custom templates (see attached image). If so, how?

Im experimenting with C3D2012, and found an issue... (Same issue is found in C3D2011)
When I change a points Raw Description to anything that isn't listed in the DescKey, the Full Description does not change. It will only change/update the Full Description if the new Raw Description is contained within the DescKey file.
Original Point Raw Description as "EP" - DescKey format for "EP" is "Edge Pavement" - Full Description = "Edge Pavement"
Change Point Raw Description to "X" - No listing for "X" in DescKey - Full Description stays "Edge Pavement"
Change Point Code to "GS" - DescKey format for "GS" is "Ground Shot" - Full Description updates to "Ground Shot"
While most of the time any updated code SHOULD be in the DescKey file, I can see times where that may not be the case, so it should update even if it doesn't find the Raw Description in the DescKey file.
I created a drawing, saved it, and days later most lines have dissapear. At preview you can see the drawing is complete, but when you open it is incomplete. Checked the BAK file, same thing, and there are no layers shut down. What can I do to recover my drawing?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have one user who cannot plot correctly from his workstation. All of his drawings will be missing information when they are plotted although they look perfect in the print preview. For example, at the bottom of every drawiing, he puts in a single text block: "Drawn by: SLM" and sometimes the 'S' in his initials won't get plotted, etc. He can save any of those drawings to a shared drive and plot them from a different workstation and there is no issue. We are using AutoCAD Map 3D 2010 on Windows 7 32bit.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to move a component within a part drawing, not an assembly. When I do "move bodies" it wants to move every extrusion within my drawing. If I click move face, then I have to click every face that I want to move (which is time consuming) and then it often times doesn't work? Sometime it works other times it just moves the origin indicator and doesn't move the faces I have selected.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know about others having drawing that either have DGN trash like linetypes or (Cells) blocks that seem to not purge out even if you use the regular wblock command.
And if you go to purge and toggle "View items you cannot purge" you see them.
You want to clean the drawing and you want to keep all your paperspace tabs so you will end up with a clean drawing.
1) use the command -wblock
2) enter a new name
3) enter * (that will tell Autocad to create a new drawing with everything in it)
4) close the old drawing don't save and open your new clean drawing with all your paperspace tabs, your done!

I have a drawing with an XREF in it and both drawing have items on layer 0. Is there a way of freezing the items in the XREF drawing that are on layer 0 but still layer 0 on in my drawing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have some hardware in my parts list drawings that has a substitute for each other. So you can use one of either item in the list. Per the ASME guidelines, those two parts share the same item number in the parts list. So my question is there any way to tell those two parts they are substitute from each other and they come into the parts list sharing that same item number. Right now i'm manually changing that item number in the parts list. But if you try to re-order those parts it's a nightmare cause it's still treating that other item as a seperate entity.

I have about forty maps created in DP6. Each of these has numerous pieces of text within it. These include title, map number, descriptive notes, individual letters such as A B C, scales, map symbols etc etc. These are currently all in Arial with some parts being bolded.
My question is:
In any one map can I select all the text within that map and change the character of the font? Ie can I grab all the text and change it from arial to a serif font? Or change all the text to a different colour?
I hope it can be done. I have done a bit of experimenting but have not found a way yet.
I realize it may be a Civil3D question. When I change my drawing scale in the "Drawing Settings" dialog box to 1"=40', for example. The Annotative scale in the Properties Palette changes to 1"=40'_XREF.

I would like to change the scale of a base view on a drawing based on a parameter in my assembly. The idea is to get iLogic to change the view using a simple If / Else statement.
This is what I tried:

So basically the value of "BP" parameter (excel parameter in my assy) would drive the scale of the views. But its not working. Is it actually a sensible method? Can I use in the drawing environment the excel parameters in my assembly?
This is the error message I get when the rule is run:
"Error in rule: View Scale, in document: 0 Generic Assembly v2.2.idw
Unspecified error (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004005 (E_FAIL))"
Also using the same thinking I use iLogic to populate the drg number field on the drawing based on an excel parameter. The rule works but does not always updates the drawing no upon the parameter change or update/rebuild commands.
I'm trying to create a script in CS5 mac os10.6.8 that will change the fill color of selected pathItems. I need a simple script that will change a selected pathItem to cmyk values 2,3,15,0. I will then select this script and implement the action in a batch of 600 files.
I wish this process could be recorded as an action but when I record the action "add new swatch" I have to manually input the cmyk values, which will take forever for a batch of over 600 files.
I created a Description Key called "EP" and it will land in a "S-PTS-EP" layer automatically.
I then created a Description Key called "NEW EP* " and created it to land in a new layer called "S-PTS-EP-NEW". But, when I manually create a point called "NEW EP" or "NEW EP BC", it does not land in the "S-PTS-EP-NEW" layer.
Is there some switch I need to turn on or is my description not complying with some naming convention?
I have bearings and distances but I am wondering if using PLIN is the best method to draw parcels in AutoCad Map 2012. I have a layer of the Townships, Ranges and Sections that I hope to align with the drawings. Most of the time it looks okay meaning they line up and for the most are where they are suppose to be but ever so often I have problems.

But this list can get really long. Each part number and each description is a seperate text string or mtext string. I plan on having an excel spreadsheet that has a list of all part numbers that my company uses with their corresponding descriptions.
I would like to use the part number to find the appropriate description and then change the description. Hopefully this can be done automatically for a list of part numbers and their descriptions.
I've been using the COGOEditor in civil 3D 2012. I enter a description for each entry. The description does not get saved. If i open the traverse file using a text editor, enter a description, save it, then reopen in COGOEditor, I still don't see any descriptions.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Description Key set of approximately 500 keys. I need to copy a huge range of these existing keys to new keys in the same description key set. Then reneumber them as required to match the field crews numbering system.
All I can see is the single individual copy option. This will take me several days to do, one at a time. Any method or routine to allow me to copy my range in one fell swoop?

Is there currently any workaround to bring in alignment descriptions when data short cutting? I have hundreds of lines that are in my drawing that need callouts and this is easily done by making a label with reference text to the alignment description.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm seeing weird behavior in C3D 2011 that I never saw in previous versions.Sometimes when I select a Cogo Point and attempt to edit the Raw Description from the Properties window, C3D changes the description to all lower-case letters, and it will not let me key in any upper-case letters. If I select the point -> Edit Points, I can edit the description in Panorama without problems. It's only in the Properties window that it refuses to accept anything other than uppercase letters.
This issue only happens sometimes. Sometimes, I'm able to edit descriptions from the Properties window with no problem. Other times, C3D changes the existing description to all lowercase letters, and refuses to allow me to enter anything but lowercase letters.what causes it, and ideally some way to get C3D 2011 to stop behaving like this?
