I've been using the COGOEditor in civil 3D 2012. I enter a description for each entry. The description does not get saved. If i open the traverse file using a text editor, enter a description, save it, then reopen in COGOEditor, I still don't see any descriptions.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI created a Description Key called "EP" and it will land in a "S-PTS-EP" layer automatically.
I then created a Description Key called "NEW EP* " and created it to land in a new layer called "S-PTS-EP-NEW". But, when I manually create a point called "NEW EP" or "NEW EP BC", it does not land in the "S-PTS-EP-NEW" layer.
Is there some switch I need to turn on or is my description not complying with some naming convention?
I have a Description Key set of approximately 500 keys. I need to copy a huge range of these existing keys to new keys in the same description key set. Then reneumber them as required to match the field crews numbering system.
All I can see is the single individual copy option. This will take me several days to do, one at a time. Any method or routine to allow me to copy my range in one fell swoop?
Civil 3D 2012 is what I am running, on Windows 7 Pro.
Is there currently any workaround to bring in alignment descriptions when data short cutting? I have hundreds of lines that are in my drawing that need callouts and this is easily done by making a label with reference text to the alignment description.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm seeing weird behavior in C3D 2011 that I never saw in previous versions.Sometimes when I select a Cogo Point and attempt to edit the Raw Description from the Properties window, C3D changes the description to all lower-case letters, and it will not let me key in any upper-case letters. If I select the point -> Edit Points, I can edit the description in Panorama without problems. It's only in the Properties window that it refuses to accept anything other than uppercase letters.
This issue only happens sometimes. Sometimes, I'm able to edit descriptions from the Properties window with no problem. Other times, C3D changes the existing description to all lowercase letters, and refuses to allow me to enter anything but lowercase letters.what causes it, and ideally some way to get C3D 2011 to stop behaving like this?
Is there a way to edit the point descriptions in the drawing and update my auto line work to match it. I can edit the point description fine, but my auto line work will not update?

Im experimenting with C3D2012, and found an issue... (Same issue is found in C3D2011)
When I change a points Raw Description to anything that isn't listed in the DescKey, the Full Description does not change. It will only change/update the Full Description if the new Raw Description is contained within the DescKey file.
Original Point Raw Description as "EP" - DescKey format for "EP" is "Edge Pavement" - Full Description = "Edge Pavement"
Change Point Raw Description to "X" - No listing for "X" in DescKey - Full Description stays "Edge Pavement"
Change Point Code to "GS" - DescKey format for "GS" is "Ground Shot" - Full Description updates to "Ground Shot"
While most of the time any updated code SHOULD be in the DescKey file, I can see times where that may not be the case, so it should update even if it doesn't find the Raw Description in the DescKey file.
How do I add my own system in Civil3d? We have a little strange system here with a deformation model, but I suggest that isn't a problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm finding myself on more and more sites that use multiple coordinate systems and height datums.
We have 3 on this job. One is the MGA zone 50 GDA94, another is just an offset of this and the third is a strange local grid with offsets and rotations.
We have Excel spreadsheets that can convert between the systems, but that requires several extra steps per point.
Is it possible to define each coordinate system in one drawing so that I could select which system I wanted to use, input the points and then select the main coordinate system so it converts the coordinates directly? It would mean less steps and I would have greater confidence in this system.
We have the parameters for all systems.
Each time an @ is entered at the command line, C3D is freezing for up to 15 seconds before allowing the comand to continue. It wasn't happening last week and no changes have been made to the instalation. What could be causing this glitch?

There are load of different coordinate systems to choose from, and I don’t want to have to manually enter it for every drawing.
I have a problem with different coordinate systems. I have a drawing in old Finnish coordinate system (KKJ, kaista 4) and I have a point file, which is made in ETRS-GK29 coordinate system. When I try to transfer the points to the drawing, the points will land way off from the drawing or I get this error message "Coordinate transformation from ETRF89.FinlandGK-29 to FINL-KKJ4 failed for point located at {29511662.554000,6948599.365000}. This usually indicates the point falls outside the boundaries of the destination coordinate system". I have checked and the point {29511662.554000,6948599.365000} should be over the drawing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy group is trying to convert a dwg from one coordinate system to another. The original drawing contains points, blocks, etc. in 1 system and we need it in a different one. We tried attaching the dwg to a new map with the new system using a layer query, but this did not appear to bring in the objects into the new system.
"Structures" is in the original system (OR83-NF), "StructuresHarn" is in the desired system (ORHP-NIF)

I am using Civil 3D and Map 3D 2010.
I have some points in a drawing set up in a coordinate system and using a specified point file format, I successfully exported them to another coordinate system for use by our surveyors. I also wanted the pipe route in my destination drawing so I created a shp file from a polyline representing the pipe route in the original drawing using Map 3D Export. When I imported the shp file into my destination drawing there appears to be a slight horizontal difference from the point locations. The shp file doesn't land directly on the points.
To try another comparison, I ran a query on the pipe route to perform a manual coordinate system transformation. The result of this is the exact same as the shp file.
My questions are, which method (exporting points vs. shp files) results in the correct coordinate transformation and why are they different? When exporting points I am not using any specific transformation settings, I am simply selecting the destination coordinate system. When exporting a shp file, Map 3D creates a prj file from the specified coordinate system in the drawing. Are there any other settings I need to adjust to get the same result with both processes? The only thing I can think of is I only have the coordinates out to 4 decimal places in my point file format, do I need to go out farther?
Is it possible to turn off or disable the coordinate or drawing conversion on import. I know I can turn it off in a dwg file but I want to completely disable it no matter what the setting is in the dwg file.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Civil 3D 2012 coordinate systems normally displayed on the units and zone tab of the drawing settings have disappeared. On existing drawings the coordinate system code is still displayed. On new drawings the code appears as a symbol - a period or a comma or something. I can enter the coordinate system code and the program recognizes it.
My Civil 3D 2011 coordinate systems display as expected.

I am a new user of civil 3D 2012. How to write a new coordinate category in my computer.
I am using a 64 bit windows 7 and everytime I attempt to write a new coordinate system category it always display the words " no access to write to the dictionary".
If you have a dwg that is, say, done in west zone but some agencies want you to provide a table of west and east zone coordinates is there a transform function that will do this in a label?
I would still wan everything in the dwg to be in west zone but be able to display coordinate values in other zones.
Mapimport command maintains integrity of x,y coordinates. Adding dem information to a civil3d TIN surface does NOT.

I am trying to create a tin surface in autoCAD from a raster dataset in GIS. Originally, my raster dataset was in UTM's (Zone 10N), and my CAD drawings were in CA State Plane (zone 2, US feet). Both NAD83. But I have, to date, been unable to get AutoCAD to correctly convert between these two coordinate systems. I thought, hmm.. let's just convert to State Plane in GIS and then add to the surface definition in AutoCAD. I had hoped this approach would 'go easy' on autoCAD as it would not need to do any conversions. Turns out, that does not appear to work either. In fact, it is even further 'off' than before... I hope the attached PDF illustrates the situation clearly. AutoCAD's mapImport command works great. The surface boundary can be imported and appears to have the correct coordinates. The surface, with the dem added to the definition, however, does not. It is shifted down and to the left.
I have Points in Civil 3D that are in the Washington State South Zone NAD 83 Coordinate System and would like to get these points converted to Washington State North Zone NAD 83 Coordinate System. I am able to convert drawings entities to the new coordinate system using MAPEXPLORER but the points do not go with it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI think this problem started after installing C3D 2012, and I don't think it's related to the UAC problems. I tried asking my reseller about it, but got no answer.
This happens with all projects that use Custom Coordinate Systems created in C3D 2011 or earlier. When opening the drawing and going into "Drawing Settings", I get this, and have to click seven times through the error box to finally have it do nothing:
Then, if I go back to Drawing Settings, I see this:
Notice how most of the dialog box settings are missing.
This stuff all worked fine for years, but seems to have gotten broken as soon as I installed C3D 2012, and is still broken in C3D 2013.
