AutoCAD Inventor :: Finished Length Is Not Same As Initial Extruded Solid
Apr 19, 2013After creating a solid and made some cutting, notching etc. the finished length is not the same as the initial extruded solid. so to get the length of the final solid ,
1. I would project geometry , and get the extreme end to get the finish length,this reference dim is now shown in parameter,
2. Go to parameter and change this ref dim name to "length" ,
3. Check the export box ,
4. Right click this ref dim to change the custom property format
5. Where i would uncheck the "units string" box
All these steps to extract the length of a single part , so just imagine if my assembly consist of 50 parts, i would do this 50 times! and usually i have almost a hundred assembly to work everytime.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Fillet Edge Of Extruded Spline Shape

I have the outline of a solid body guitar that I drew with spline, extruded and now trying put a 1/2" fillet radius along the edges, top and bottom.
Using the 3d fillet command produces an error, and extruding a profile along the edge path doesn't work either.
Attached is the spline outline, the red part is what needs the fillet, but the white part does not. However, they can't be extruded into a 3d solid unless their joined!

May 17, 2013I am trying to create a 3D meshed surface from an irregular shaped solid I created using firstly a SPLINE, FILLET, PEDIT, and EXTRUDE. I have a solid in the basic shape now, but I am trying to create a meshed top and bottom (x, y, z,) to change the contours of those surfaces. I have looked at 3DMesh but it asks for (n,M,) coordinates like it is a regular shaped surface (square, rectangle) where one can calculate the required even spacing needed.
My goal is to create in CAD something like a fine art carved piece of wood, with irregular shaping and no straight planes or surfaces.
I have included a basic picture in JPEG format for your review. This is the item from which I am trying in ACAD 2010 to construct into a usable adjustable form so I may parametric for my needs.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Quickest Way To Create Part That Starts Off As Basic Extruded AISC Shape?
Dec 10, 2013I am new Inventor user (2014 version) trying to get up to speed on best practices and the most efficient work flows. I find myself designing individual parts that start off as base AISC shapes (angles, square tubes, rectangular tubes, etc.). These are parts that start off as base extrusions that then have multiple machining operations performed on them. In most cases, the parts are stand along parts that aren't involved in any type of frame.
In these cases, I generally sketch the profile from scratch using my AISC book and then extrude. I'm sure this is silly. Frame generator already has the profile data built in- so why am I sketching these profiles from scratch? But using frame generator in an assembly environment to make a single member part seems silly to me also. Why should there be an assembly file at all? I just want a single part that starts off as some length of some standard profile. Using frame generator in an assembly environment seems like overkill.
What is the best practice for starting off a part with some length of a standard ANSI, ISO, or other profile?

and then rather than a point at the bottom imagine a flat extra line (so it then has 6 sides rather than 5)
I can make a 6 sided shape no problem, but it always has equal length sides when I first produce it,
So I goto
Transform>skew
(as I would image I could change its shape with) it just never looks right.
I take it I either want to drag the corners in and out or to perhaps input the details of size/length/angles etc (but I imagine this will take too long).
It is even possible to make this image in 1 go?

Oct 18, 2011It seems there have been a change in some system variable i ACAD2012 that changes the way a line lengthens when you use the grips.
I want the length to change relative to the selected grip not determine the total length of the line!
I'm guessing that it have something to do with polar tracking, if I turn it of the stretching works the way I want.

A friend of mine told me about a feature in ProE where you are able to define a part and then define one of the lengths as it is placed into an assembly. For example I would define a 2x4 part with a length of 84inches. If I wanted a 2x4 of 68inches in my assembly I would use the same file but simply change the 84 to 68. How can I do this with Inventor?

I've got to create a dynamic block for Rebar, with symbols (which are blocks) at two end of the bar line can be changed scale follow annotation scale changes.
The problem is after I have stretch the linear grip to change the length of the rebar, if I change to another annotation scale, the sybol block auto jump to the original position, not at the ends of line as I expected. How to keep the symbols at ends?

Mar 16, 2012I was wondering if there is a way with DB's to have a line "follow" or "grow" with the content/value length of an attribute. Maybe some method of linking the attribute width to length of the line? Essentially, it would work just like turning on the underline setting when typing in mtext editor (or any program with an underline option for that matter), expect that the line could be placed anywhere, and would not have to reside directly below the text.
