Aug 31, 2011Why is it that I cannot add a drop shadow to an extruded and beveled shape? Is this one capability that CorelDraw X5 is lacking?

I need to create a gold bar in the shape of the map of Texas that looks 3D. I need it to look real. I have a pic of a gold bar with the embossed 999.9 and the serial number. I have taken an outline of the map and extruded it so it looks 3D. I cannot figure out how to fill the extrusion with the bitmap. I want to wrap it so it looks like real gold on the front and sides with embossing undistorted. I am using Draw X4.

I only added the good version of the what i am trying to achieve.
Here is the result we are actually getting !
I apply a red glow on an object (rectangle) on an black background. When exported as JPEG or PDF, the red glow color faded become greyish. I check that it's same when I turn the proof colors on.I've change different modes for the drop shadow but none gives the correct result.
This only happens in CMYK mode. When exported as RGB, it's fine.
Applying contour to a text and trying to apply a drop shadow afterwards, the drop shadow properties can not be set.
No matter what item you select in the Object Manager, the drop shadow toolbar's controls are all disabled.
PS: I just noticed this is true for the drop shadow tool in CorelDRAW X6.2 in gereral. I'm not able to edit any of the drop shadow properties.

Copy drop shadow properties is not working for me. When I click on the object to copy to, it tells me, "you did not click on an object." What do I need to do?
Edit: actually, I'm seeing that this is not working in Contour, either. And it may not be working in other effects as well, although I haven't tested those.
1. How can I turn off the default layer drop shadow?
2. How can I make the default layer a solid fill on open?
When I group a few objects together, and apply drop shadow to the group, I cannot edit the individual object in the group (cannot pick it to move it or resize it etc) without removing the drop shadow.
View 15 Replies View RelatedAfter applying drop shadow to a text, I find no direct way to edit the text without removing the drop shadow. I've tried the text tool, Ctrl-Click, Alt-Click, Shift-Click, etc, maybe I missed something.
View 4 Replies View RelatedX4. When I add a drop shadow to anything the variable attributes do not appear on the property bar, ie "flat bottom right" at top left and then the choice of colours etc. I know by now where they are so click on where I think they are, but it's annoying. I have deleted, run a reg cleaner and re-installed + added the SP2 updates.

Shadow Black value being C - 0 M - 0 Y - 0 K -100.
In the file and the hard print the shadow comes out as a reddish color. How do I get the shadow Black?
1. Black drop shadow does not appear black when Publish to PDF
2. The object beneath the drop shadow will appear as show below:
I've tried to convert the drop shadow to bitmap but the result is same.
I tried to apply a transparency to a beveled rectangle and was unsuccessful to get any effect to apply. Tried to make the bevel first and then apply transparency and vice-versa, a transparent rectagle and tried to do bevel effect. Neither way would work.
Don't they play nice together, or do I have to try it in PP?
I'm creating a logo that consists of the word DIFFERENT in text and a shape, a dot (an ellipse) that I want to appear above the I and be vertically aligned with I.
How can I do this? The problem is that I can't see how to identify the point in the text - the centre of the I - to act as the target. I can't seem to get any of the Snap to Object tools to work.
I feel that I should be able to mark a specific point anywhere on a shape or an object and use those points to align.
I suspect that I could achieve the effect that I want by splitting the text characters up into individual objects, than I can align them more obviously but then I set up some other issues with kerning.
I'm working with CorelDraw X3 and want to fill text into a round shape, while keeping it's exact outline. Hence, cutting of parts of words and letters is fine with me as long as the shape is well-defined. Unfortunately when filling paragraph text into a shape, the automatic line breaks lead to a quite irregular shape regardless of font size.
As workaround I arranged a mask in front of background and text but this requires a square paragraph text which is larger than the background. Since paragraph text obviously cannot be cropped with other objects I made the mask size bigger and filled it white. When exporting my document as image everything looks neat, but there must be a better way to do this in CorelDraw itself?
I tried converting the paragraph text into artistic text and cropping this, which works fine for a few words and a small object. But I'm talking around 1000 words here, and trying to crop this artistic text leads to very random cropping results. I guess such a large number of objects and knots is too much for CorelDraw to handle!?
My problem concerns about shadows of outline In fact, I want to create a soft, shaded border. Effect which I want to achieve can be seen in the picture below, basically it is a design of an soccer jersey.
I tried drop shadow technique but the result is too large and inaccurate shadow. Also, I tried to create an custom artistic media brush, but the result is not as I expected. Is it out of a job that Corel can perform ?
I want to do a drop cap - the option is grayed out i can find nothing in the book on how to activate it.

But when I print the document, the box surrounding shadow (the one I can use to change dimension or rotate, which isnt visible) changes my dark gray background.

Here is a free macro which saves a little time. It creates an inner shadow on one or more selected shapes. There are a few presets on the macro and if you want to adjust the transparency slightly, click the undo arrow, adjust the transparency and then reapply.
I started to notice this a few days ago. I created a rectangular shape and applied the drop shadow layer style. I then removed that style first by turning it off and then by dragging it to the trash icon.
Now I have a shape with a drop shadow but not layer styles. The only solution I have found is to delete the shape and create a new one without the drop shadow applied.
I would like to know how to create the shadow effect as pointed with the red arrow, if this design is to be printed to 2 spot color (Orange 021 C and Black)

I have bought the hard copy version of corel draw Suit X5 and waiting for it. I originally dwn loaded it from the web and so did my son. We are working on a project together. He found TT-Musical Symbols in his dwn loaded version and I do not have it on my dwn load version. Do you have TT-Musical Symbols in your drop down text? and or when you dwn loaded the trail version, have you got it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 layers, a text layer on top, and a shape behind it. When I add a drop shadow to the text, the shadow shows up BEHIND the shape, instead of on it. If I choose mode "Multiply," then it shows up in front but is way too big.
