Is it possible to affix a point light to an object so it moves with it when you move the object? I know you can simply select both and move 'em together. But I made a fixture with a lot of point lights on it and it's a pain in the ass to try to select everything in order to move it and position it.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI have published the result of a dynamic simulation to the studio environment in Inventor 2012, and I would like to fix a camera to a point on the face of a simulated object. The camera target is at a point normal to this face, and its position and rotation need to update automatically with the object's current orientation at each time step to create a "point-of-view" video. The motion is too complex to be approximated by a camera path. The dialog box to define the camera allowed me enter a parameter for the rotation, but it was not stored as a variable; it needed to be manually redefined after each time step.
I think it may be possible to create a macro to redefine the camera's position, target, and rotation between each time step of the rendered animation, but I am not at all familiar with the objects and methods of Inventor's VBA. Would it be feasible to create something like this, or is there a simpler way, such as exporting the result of the simulation to another program like 3d Studio Max?
I've got a chain that runs between two sprockets. In between the sprockets is a slider that needs to be attached to the chain so that the rolling of the chain moves the slider back and forth.Right now the chain just runs straight through the slider, it isn't connected at all. I can't find any way to tell Inventor that this slider is connected to the chain.

If it is possible to replace objects in a scene with light objects. The normal replace function in the import menu will only replace normal mesh objects with other mesh objects. But if I try the same by replacing box objects in my scene with the light source object I saved in a separate max file, it says it doesn't find any objects in the max file with the same name despite it having the exact same name. (both objects in question have all lower case letters in the name)
I'm currently using Max 10 to render lightmaps for a first person shooter game and I use various scripts to get the game content into the scene. The game also provides object positions for glow objects which are in positions I intend to use for light sources. Normally I go through a long tedious process of cloning light objects and positioning roughly in the same area where the glow objects are. (objects I decide not to replace with the game's object meshes appear as standard box objects in max unless I convert them to mesh objects).
But I would like to create a set of light objects and do a batch replace on some objects already in the scene with my light objects. This would save me a lot of time. Is there a function max that can do this or is there a script that can do this?
I am working on a sign which needs to be backlit. I cant seem to get the light to interact with the shape in front. I need the light to spread across the shape, basically between the wall and the oval shape.

I thought the easiest way to do it would be creating a matrix of bulbs arranged by material ID and then design a pattern in multi sub-object materiel so I could somehow scrub through it and achieve animation effect. The material modifier allows to change ID for the whole object only and MaterialByElement shuffle ID`s in a random manner.

I am attempting to build a facsimilie enigma machine, I would like to know how best to create an effect so that when a key is pressed a corresponding letter appears to light up. Btw I am not looking for an animated image, I can take care of the transitions between on and off, I just need to create the two image states.

How do you lock the pivot point of a light to the light itself? I thought just adding a Axis node would move the light and pivot point but the pivot does not move. Is there a way of parenting them together?

When attempting to attach a PDF as an underlay, I go to the Insert tab, choose "Attach" from the Reference panel, pick the PDF I want, and then...nothing. No dialog boxes come up, I get no error messages, it just doesn't do anything at all. I just upgraded my RAM and I know the rest of my specs are up to par, and I did get this feature to work once, but now it doesn't do anything.

So I've had this issue for a while - I try to XREF in a PDF an it just freezes up. The command line is stuck on _PDFATTACH and nothing happens. And it's not like it'd totally frozen either because as soon as I press escape it comes right out of it, so then I save the PDF down to a JPEG or TIFF and don't worry about it for a while. Still, it is quite annoying especially when I would like to use PDF Layers but can't.
I am trying to attach a dgn to my drawing and cannot seem to get it to come in correctly. It is coming in about 4.5 feet off, My units in the micro station drawing are set to US survey feet, and I have my units set in my drawing to engineering and unitless, I have tried feet and that did not solve the problem either .

I tried to turn off the layer in one viewport while leaving the layer turned on in another viewport but i could not get it to plot correctly. It's off in my drawing but when i go to plot its on in all viewports. What is the reason that this happens? my plan file is too large i may have to post it seppartly
View 7 Replies View Relatedi have 12 base maps (transportation.dwg, utilities.dwg, etc) and each of these base maps is attached to a data source (.mdb). when creating a new drawing and inserting these basemaps in the Task Pane by Attach Drawings & Query, i loose the connection to the data source in the new drawing
is there a way to have the datasource carry through and retain the attachment to new drawing?
also, in alot of maps we create we Xref (Transportation.dwg) and we loose the datasource in that situation too.
i'm new at this so hopefully my question makes sense.
I have Autocad Civil 3d 2011 and recently the software was corrupted so our IT guy reinstalled everything. Now when I attempt to attach a PDF I get an error box that reads
This file cannot be opened.
The problem can be caused by several things:
- The data in the file is corrupted
- The file is an earlier format that is no longer supported
- The file format is not supported
Try to obtain a better copy of the file, recreate the file using
different settings, or convert the file to a supported file format.
Now before the reinstall, I never had an issue...never saw this message before and have attached hundreds of PDFs to drawing. The only thing I will add is around the time of the reinstall, I also had installed NITRO PDF software. I believe this installation came after the problems started...just cant remember, so I wanted to throw that out just in case.
I'm trying to attach a DWG file to my post but it is appearing not to let me. Shouldn't I be able to attach that type of file? Or is there another file type I should be using?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to attach several .pdf files into a drawing. Files that were sent to me attach with no problem, but when I scan sheets in using an HP LaserJetPro Printer/Scanner I get the following error:

When I check the properties of the files I can attach -vs- the files I can not attach, I find no difference in version, security details etc., so I'm pretty sure the problem isn't that the file isn't supported of from an earlier version. I've tried several different files from my scanner and none will attach. I have also tried scanning using different settings with no joy.

I get as far as selecting the pdf, but then i wait, and wait, for the next dialog box to choose path, insertion point, page etc....it never appears and I have to cancel ....getting very behind with my work. (By the way I have done this a hundreds times over, so not sure what's changed).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was out of town for a week and I think someone messed around with my CAD settings while I was gone. Now when I click Insert->DWG Reference, AutoCAD brings up a dialog that says: "Path to DWG file to attach:" instead of bringing me to a windows explorer type menu where I select the file to attach like it always has in the past. I can still attach xrefs by typing in xref and doing it through that menu, but what setting was changed?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have made thousands of sheet metal parts and their associated drawings without issue but this time, I made a part and attempted to make a drawing but dimension lines won't attach to certain geometry in the drawing. It acts like it will until I click the second line for the dimension then it errors, telling me the same error message that comes up when you delete a feature that previously had a dimension.
I also can't place an origin for doing a hole chart, for example. It just turns purple and says it isn't attached even though it clearly is.
