View 1 RepliesWhenever I create an interior scene and use an omni light I get these horrible white hotspots reflecting in the surface of glossy objects, particularly glass. I am currently using Mental Ray with MR Sun and MR sky and a few omnis, but I have had this problem since the bad old days of using the scanline. Is there a quick fix that allow the Omnis to cast light but prevent them from reflecting?

But I made a fixture with a lot of point lights on it and it's a pain in the ass to try to select everything in order to move it and position it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use the spline IK system to animate a linked 'train' on a path.
There are 4 segments which are joined with a universal coupling. I can only get one segment to actually follow the path, as the others don't follow at all. I've attached my example file.
In 3ds Max i made CAT Bones for my model. However how do i attach these bones to my model? Because when in Motion Builder my model doesn't move with the bones. I also tried a biped it also didnt move.

I thought things were working well when I parented the prop to the hand control as everything looked fine in the viewport, but then I do the nice render and the prop floats around the hand.
I don't seem to be able to increase the number of control vertices in an IK Spline. The number of bones in the chain upon which the Spline is set doesn't seem to affect the number of control vertices I have to work with when creating the spline and I can't find a way to increase the number. I'm trying to animate a fish but finding it difficult to get a smooth wave to travel along it's length with only four control vetices.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to scale a spring (which is actually a renderable spline). I want it's scalable boundaries to be controlled by two other animated objects.
I thought a simple FFD modifier with a linked xform modifier to the control points would work, but unfortunately it won't let me link control points.
The basic premise is that I've built a grid of 100x100 tiles and aim constrained them to a locator. Now I'm wondering if I could somehow attach an "area of effect" to the locator so that only the closest tiles aim at the locator and the rest lay unchanged?
View 5 Replies View Relateda few things involving cameras. My assignment was to use our plane that we modeled with poly's and animate it on a motion path(used cv curve tool) and have a camera above it follow it. Now I got that down perfect.
But what I don't have a clue on, is how do I attach a camera on the same motion path as the plane and have a camera angle right behind the spinning propeller? Like a cockpit view.
I've got a 2 bone chain that I have attached a spline IK to with a flex modifier on the spline. This was working pretty well however, once I skinned the mesh to these bones I noticed that when I rotated the 2nd bone it would seem to pop on a different axis. It was hard to spot at first because it popped between 2 frames, popped 90 degrees and seems to happen at the same rotation amount (can't recall exact degree at the moment).
I turned off the flex modifier and it is still popping so I'm assuming it is from the spline IK. Is there a way to prevent this?
I have problem with animating camera along a spline using path constraint. The spline has been spline normalized before added to the path constraint. Then I add besier floating to be able to slow down the camera.
The final camera seems to move not smoothly. This can notice especially when the camera are further away from the origin (0,0).
Some says it's because of Max's coordinates is not fine enough which can clearly proved when import autocad file which located very far from the origin into max and most vertex will be shifted from where it should be in Autocad.
I am working on a rig right now and I'm trying to do the Isner Spine from the Body Language Advanced 3D Rigging Book.
I did the Spline IK with the spine and I have everything stretching fine but when I made the CVs into clusters and parented them to the controls, when I got to translate the rig, whether I use the Root CTRL, Main CTRL, or whatever, the spine translates twice as fast as everything else. The clusters and everything in the lower body moves normal and everything about the head is moving normal..
I know in other situations with curves you have delete history but I can't delete history on the joints and I can't come up with any solution. I can attach a file.. not all the controls are done right now and I haven't reparented the wings correctly so just ignore that.
I've a character writing on something (it could be paper, wall, etc). Now I'm looking for a way that attaches brush to his hand for interactive writing on that object.
Don't say I have to sync it manually! it's a close up shot and motion captured movement. Indeed it's really complex movement! Imagine you are painting on a sphere with Maya's texture paint tool.
I have a skeleton with baked motion capture keys on every frame. I'm wondering if there is a method to convert these baked keys to curves, so it will be possible to start cleaning up the animation. I'm fairly new to dealing with mocap. Perhaps there is a method for achieving this in Motion Builder rather than Maya, that I'm not aware of?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create an external involute spline (ANSI B92.2M) Fillet Root Side Fit 26.9mm x 1 mm x 26 teeth x 38 mm long using the spline generator with Inventor 2012. I created a test shaft"M-182-AMA.ipt" that is Ø26.9 mm x 38 mm long with 1 mm radius on each end of shaft.
I use the following steps:
1. After creating component "M-182-AMA.ipt" I select Design tab>>Power Transmission>>Involute Spline.
2. A window appears that has the caption "Involute Splines Connection Generator".In the Dimensions section I choose "Splines Type: ANSI B92.2M - 37.5 deg, Fillet Root, Side Fit, 26 x 1.00 x 38 x 5H/5h" and change the Length to 38 mm.
3. In the Shaft Groove section I use Create new, and I push the Reference 1 button that turns blue, I then select the od feature from the model and I get an error(see attached pic "error1.jpg).
I changed the 26.9mm od to be 27mm and it still gave me the error.

I see how to put omni class numbers in Families but I cannot see how to put them in the System families like doors.

I thought the easiest way to do it would be creating a matrix of bulbs arranged by material ID and then design a pattern in multi sub-object materiel so I could somehow scrub through it and achieve animation effect. The material modifier allows to change ID for the whole object only and MaterialByElement shuffle ID`s in a random manner.

I am attempting to build a facsimilie enigma machine, I would like to know how best to create an effect so that when a key is pressed a corresponding letter appears to light up. Btw I am not looking for an animated image, I can take care of the transitions between on and off, I just need to create the two image states.

How do you lock the pivot point of a light to the light itself? I thought just adding a Axis node would move the light and pivot point but the pivot does not move. Is there a way of parenting them together?

However, if I use them in the floor space of a wood joist floor, the light itself gets covered with the floor. How can I get the light to cut the floor out so I can see the light when it is rendered?

When attempting to attach a PDF as an underlay, I go to the Insert tab, choose "Attach" from the Reference panel, pick the PDF I want, and then...nothing. No dialog boxes come up, I get no error messages, it just doesn't do anything at all. I just upgraded my RAM and I know the rest of my specs are up to par, and I did get this feature to work once, but now it doesn't do anything.

I have just tried to reload the CAD file as I have been doing all along and it now has the error message "Unable to attach this file; the file may be missing, corrupted, or may not contain valid data".I have tried starting a new Max file and attaching various other CAD files but none will work, I get this error every single time.

So I've had this issue for a while - I try to XREF in a PDF an it just freezes up. The command line is stuck on _PDFATTACH and nothing happens. And it's not like it'd totally frozen either because as soon as I press escape it comes right out of it, so then I save the PDF down to a JPEG or TIFF and don't worry about it for a while. Still, it is quite annoying especially when I would like to use PDF Layers but can't.
