AutoCad 2D :: How To Have (snap) Default To Off When Opening Drawings
Oct 26, 2012
Im not talking about osnap, I am talkin about snap which limits your cursor. When I open exisitng drawings, some of them have snap turned on and it is bothering me. Is there a way to adjust your settings to always have snap turned off?
Is there a way to programatically set a visual style before a drawing actually opens?
We have some huge models and people seem to forget to change their visual styles back to 2D wireframe before saving and exiting drawings. Some models will crash on some workstations when trying to open in a rendered mode.
I found a lisp with a function that looked to set viewport visual styles. But it does not seem to be supported anymore. --> (vla-put-VisualStyle vport 1)
most times i have to work on multiple drawings. i open these drawings all at once, but due to their size, it takes some time to open all the files. It would be nice if autocad would stay in the background while opening rather than forcing itself to be the focused programs after each file is opened. this really destroys the ability to multitask and honestly just seems arrogant at this point...
I modified a routine that processed xref names & paths w/in a set of folders. Thie original version would open each drawing & do its thing. THis would take about 20 minutes (aprroximately 90 files). I modified it to work w/o opening each drawing. This still takes about 20 minutes.
I would have though that not avtually opeing each drawing would dramitically decrease the overall time required to run this routine.
When I open a drawing in Autocad 2014, the drawing name opens as drawing1 or drawing2, etc. The files have been saved with a drawing name, however when I open them after saving they open as a unsaved file.
I have been given a new lap top plus the updated AutoCAD rev. 2012.Supposedly it is superior to my old laptop but... it runs slower, the mouse action is awful, it's like stirring cold porridge.
Anyway, I have spent the first week battling with various bits, trying to get it to look & feel like my previous laptop using 2010.
The big issue I have is upon start up. Rather than loading the standard AutoCAD "drawing 1" regardless, I want to have the browser open up so I can select the' previous drawings loaded on my last session or select a new drawing or browse folders to find the drawing I want.
how I managed to switch this on, back when I managed it on 2010 version.I have given up on running up & down the menus.
I receive this pop up message every time I open a drawing. How to stop this from happening??
Not sure what info you may need I'm running windows 7 with autocad 2010. I also have autocad 2005 loaded on the same machine and this box does not appear when opening drawings with it.
Rscently upgraded from xp to win 8, re installed autocad 2011.
Now when I try to open a drawing from within autocad my system crashes, I get a flash of horizontal lines then two blank screens.
Tried running narrator but just get static through the speakers, I have to hit the re start button to get back in.
I can open a drawing from explorer if autocad is not allready running, autocad starts and the drawing opens with no problems. but if I try to open another drawing we crash.
I just recently had to install 2009 from map 2008. When I open drawings last worked on and saved in 2008 and open them in civil 3d 2009, I get drawings that freeze up upon opening. Some will eventually open, showing errors. Others will never open and just freeze up.
I'm having an issue with my cad files that were done with Civil 3D 2012. When we made the jump to Civil 3D 2014 all my drawings seem to be corrupt. Now I have pipe networks in my base file. I have tired recovering and recoverall but no luck. I can send the CAD file.
I have AutoCad LT and I can't find a way to scroll through folders full of drawings without opening each one. I have the Autocad Viewer but I can't find a way to make it do this, what are you pros doing, I know there has to be something out there. The rest of the world has way to view file i.e. Photoshop has Bridge, Nikon Has View NX, I do photography and there's a ton of ways to view images even at full res .
I have a problem with my autocad. The administrator started me out on AutoCAD 2012 global.
The problem existed then so. Now he has me on AutoCAD 2012 Imperial . The problem still exists.
When I open an existing drawing that I have never opened with my version of Autocad. It opens the drawing in Metric units. I do not want Metric units. I would like it in Imperial units. Every time I open an existing drawing, I have to change the units to Architectural.
I've recently run into a problem that involves xrefs. Basically, I cannot open files that are being xrefed in other drawings when those drawings are currently open. AutoCAD Architecture will only allow me to open the xrefed file as a read-only version. For example:
I have 1ST FLOOR PLAN (drawing file) xrefed into A-201.00 FIRST FLOOR PLAN (sheet file). If one of my team members has the sheet file open with the drawing file loaded, then AutoCAD will only let me open the drawing file as a read-only file. But if my team member has the sheet file open with the drawing file unloaded, then I can open the drawing file without any problems.
I have never had this type of problem with xrefs before and so I'm wondering if it's an AutoCAD Architecture 2012 bug.
I have a customer who uses Solid Works and I of course have Inventor 2013. Before I get into discussion with them about software compatability I wanted to ask the experts! Can I open Solid Works drawings with Inventor?
- Installed pspro_cad_fp_10.0.39.3 update for PSP Server and for PSP Clients.
And now, some drawings we can not open in Inventor 2012. Inventor crashes!
But some drawings we are lucky to be able to open and work with.
Drawings have the same template.
If the drawing is locked (read only) then inventor 2012 can open it without a crash.
If I drag&drop drawing out from PSP onto my Desktop, Inventor 2012 can open drawing without problems.
So we are not able to work with some drawings in Inventor 2012 and PSP 2011.
As the first and quick (and 100%) solution - rollback to Inventor 2010 can cost us about 5 man-days of work. (Because we have done some work in Inventor 2012 allready and will not be able to work with this in Inventor 2010)
Is there a way to increase the access time so printing is faster?
I have AutoCAD 2013 and access drawings over VPN (6 meg pipe).
Both opening the drawings and especially printing them take a very long time.
It takes about 8 seconds to open drawings, due to all the modules loading on the bottom-left of AutoCAD. Printing takes even longer than opening the drawings.
Is there a setting I can change to speed-up access time?
When ever i open a dwg file (it contains Xref files) it's take a long time to open... and i tried the same file to open in Autocad 2007, it's opened with in a second.... and also note that the Autocad 2007 installed in a Dual core pc with 4gb RAM.. and the 2012 is installed in Core i7 12gb ram with NVIDIA graphics card.. and it's 64 bit Windows 7 too.. When i try to open a file it's shows "Loading c:/ ....... base.dwg, etc.. ..
For the past 2 days when I switch from one drawing to another, my layout tabs are not updating and stay the same as the previous drawings. I have to do a regen to get the proper tabs in place. All the layouts are there...it is just the tabs that are messed up. Once I click on one of the tabs they straighten themselves out as well, but on that first selection I never get the correct drawing that I want!
I am running the new auto cad civil 3d 2014, downloaded from the design suite premium. I have left all of the programs installed (as a I saw that a few people chose to uninstall several of the programs). I am running auto cad on an @xi workstation, 4.1ghz processor, 16gb corsair vengence heatspred ram, 240gb ssd operating drive, 2tb storage raid 0 configuration storage drives, NVIDIA K2000 graphics card. It took me a while to configure the graphics settings within auto cad due to the high resolution, text is being portayed as small in some cases, commands are huge in others.
I am still adjusting all of those, however my real problem is that when I open certain drawings the program immediatly goes to not responding, and when I am working back and forth and trying to open multiple drawings it does the same. Just opening the program off of my desktop on a cold-start up takes maybe 15 seconds to be fully functional, the same with certain drawings. However others just seem to not want to be opened. This occurs with drawings large and small. Some large drawings open perfectly while some small ones crash, and vice versa. What could be the cause of this?
I need to modify the page setup of multple drawings and have it save that way so everytime I open the drawing the chosen page setup is selected.
I'm aware of being able to set multiple page setups in the publish screen, but that isnt a permenant change to the drawings themselves, and not what I'm looking for.
I'm going to be building an RC airplane for a winter project. Somebody drew the pieces in AutoCAD but before I have the parts sent out to be laser cut, I want to prove out the design. Since I have limited knowledge on AutoCAD, I thought I would bring the CAD file into MAX and do a virtual build there.
I've come across a few pieces so far that need to be adjusted. I can easily tweak them in max, but when I export them back out as a dwg, they have a lot more verts in CAD than they did compared to the original CAD drawing. I am guessing this is because MAX needs them to be editable splines and CAD uses polylines, and the two are just "different".
Short of doing my virtual build in AutoCAD, what are my options? Is it possible to adjust a CAD drawing inside MAX, and keep the nice clean lines AutoCAD has when I open the exported file in CAD?
I am having an odd issue with the windows default for opening files for Inventor. I previously had the full Autodesk 2013 software suite. A couple of months ago I did the upgrade and installed the Autodesk 2014 software suite.
My issue is now when attempting to open files the default is to open them in Inventor 2013 (still installed on my machine).
I went through the windows default programs options and browsed/selected the Inventor 2014 .exe application. However, this does not add the 2014 application to the list as it seems 2013 over rides it.
I tried to manually changing .ipt/.iam/.stp etc. file types from Inventor 2013 to Inventor 2014, yet am still unable to have the 2014 application added to the potential list of default programs to open with.
One solution would appear to be to un-install the 2013 suite, is there any other way to fix this problem? It is nothing crucial, yet very annoying.
another way that I can get the default program altered to use Inventor 2014? I have attached pictures showing my steps of attemping to change the file association for a .stp file. However, this does not work. I even brought this issue to my company's IT perssonnel and they were unsure.
We recently had a draftsman that drew with snap on (he no longer works here), and now all the drawings he worked on have this setting turned on. I thought it would be as simple as opening up the drawings and either hitting F9 or clicking on the toggle to turn off snap. That doesn't seem to be the case. Snap mode seems to be tied to individual sheets, and every viewport. I have multiple sheets in a drawing and each sheet has multiple viewports. The last thing I want to do is open every drawing, click in every viewport on every sheet to turn off snap.
I have snapmode set to 0, but it will only turn it of in whatever sheet or viewport is active. I have to write a lisp routine that will go through every viewport on every sheet to set snapmode to 0?
Object Snap.jpg I want to pick the point where the circle hits the edge of the box but there seems to be no Intersection there. But they are on the same plane!
I`m using Inventor 2012.When i select a new sketch from the New file drop down selection box ( new sketch picture) the XY plane is a different view to when i select a new sketch from the Part selection box (new sketch 1).
How can i make a default work plane when opening a new sketch?I would like to have the work plane identical to the new sketch picture when ever i open a new sketch file
after 2013 was installed in my colleagues computer he now has the option to include Layouts when opening the publishing command, which didn't happen before. It is a slight pain removing these from the selection to be published and I was wondering how I get it to only select models and not layouts when opening the publish command as default.
