View 9 RepliesI get inconsistent results when I try to use the object snap to a point such as an intersection in an xref. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Even the "nearest" doesn't seem to recognize the xref consistently. Is there a way to insure that the point is recognized?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe problem is that AutoCAD 2010, does not recognize any object snap commands, all the other comands work just fine.
I have reinstalled the program and don´t work.
What could be?
I'm trying to snap one object to the other with vert snap.
It's trying to snap from the center of my object rather then the vert I am hovering over. In the Snap settings I have only "vertex" checked so it should snap to whatever vertex I hover over but no...This keeps up I'm going back to 2008 when all this worked fine.
Form Autocad 2000 to 2012, there is always with this problem. It happens sometimes in object snap, it does not work to snap a intersection point (two crossed lines) when drawing a line or arc or others. For sure, these two lines are in the same plan and can be filleted or chamfered. So I turned on the Apparent intersection, it works with apparent intersection point, I am not sure if this apparent intersection will cause other problem. I am working on pure 2-D drawing, do not want to get any 3D objects inside the drawing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to place a construction line through an intersection the line offsets depending on where the cursor is placed. When the on screen prompt ask to specify through point. It defaults to 0 and I enter in 45'. It comes back invalid. believe this is a snap setting somewhere but I cant seem to find it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have problem with placing origin of ordinate dimensions on point where two centerlines are intersecting.
In my particular case I have rectangle and centerlines are in the middle of pararel edges. So they are crossing eatch other in the center of rectangle.
I need to place origin for ordinate dimensions in this point. But till now I had not find any way to do that except make a skkech and draw a line that's one end is exactly in the point I want. But it seems to me like rather ridicules aolution.
Is there any way of snapping to an intersection of a surface and a mesh or even the intersection of two surfaces?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe recently had a draftsman that drew with snap on (he no longer works here), and now all the drawings he worked on have this setting turned on. I thought it would be as simple as opening up the drawings and either hitting F9 or clicking on the toggle to turn off snap. That doesn't seem to be the case. Snap mode seems to be tied to individual sheets, and every viewport. I have multiple sheets in a drawing and each sheet has multiple viewports. The last thing I want to do is open every drawing, click in every viewport on every sheet to turn off snap.
I have snapmode set to 0, but it will only turn it of in whatever sheet or viewport is active. I have to write a lisp routine that will go through every viewport on every sheet to set snapmode to 0?
I cant seem to snap to guide intersections when a linked jpeg file is visible. It works fine when I turn off the visibility of the layer the file is on but I am trying to "trace" over the image with line segments. I know that I have been able to do this in the past but for some reason it is not working now. Im sure that I have accidentally changed something but don't know what.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSnap commands in X6? I can not get the snap to grid to turn off. The button is off and the setting is set to off in options. Objects seem to snap all over not just to the grid. And the grid snap seems to be out of alignment-I cant seem to get objects to snap exactly to the grid.
The same files reopened in X5 are fine. This started with yesterdays install of 6.2. leaving X2 completely unusable.
I have a rather simple 3rd party custom object... I tried to get its bounding box but the coordinates that come back don't seem to relate at all to the object.
What I'd like are the coordinates of two nodes the object contains...
Is it possible to apply the autocad cursor in some why with the node object snap to get their coordinates?
I'm looking for comments here- Was this a "bug" in AutoCAD 2013 or what?
I teach AutoCAD to high school kids via "cyber school" and one of my students was sending me drawings on which the SNAP was NOT "snapping" parallel to the X axis and the GRID was not present at all-
Here's what I discovered (This is what I wrote to the student):
Your software is AUTOCAD DESIGN SUITE Ultimate 2013 (Student Version)
Your LIMITS are correctly set to 0,0 and 12,9
GRID and SNAP are both set to .25
The problem:
1. The GRID does NOT display no matter what settings are chosen under the GRID command or within the Drafting Settings dialog box on the Grid and Snap tab.
2. The SNAP function does not create VERTICAL and HORIZONTAL lines.
(The SNAP function is not alignning with the X and Y axes.)
When I opened your latest drawing (9.1) and drew a 12 by 9 rectangle using coordinate input (L <enter> 0,0<enter> 12,0<enter> 12,9<enter> 0,9<enter> c<enter>), the resulting rectangle was a bit “off-SNAP”.
That shouldn’t happen.
I Googled “AUTOCAD GRID OFF” and any other combination I could think off.
Though I was able to read dozens of queries about various SNAP and GRID issues, NONE that I found addressed this issue.
I confirmed that SNAP was on and started the LINE command.
As I moved the mouse I watched the coordinates displayed next to the crosshairs.
As I “snapped” from point to point the coordinates SHOULD have always displayed increments of ¼ (.25, .75, 1.0, 1.25, etc) but they did NOT.
As I moved away from the origin (0,0) the ever-growing error could be seen in the coordinate display at the crosshairs.
It was as if the SNAP function was NOT following a “perfect” vertical/horizontal orientation as it moved.
To confirm that I drew a line using coordinates: 0,9 as the start point and 12,9 as the next point.
I restarted the line command and “picked” a start point guided by “snap” that was “close” to the first start point (It wasn’t perfectly on the first line’s start point due the anomaly mentioned in my first paragraph.) and then picked a second point that was “close” to the first line’s endpoint.
The 2 lines were not parallel.
The line drawn with SNAP to dictate its start and endpoints was simply not “horizontal”.
The “Y” coordinate of the start and end points on that line were slightly different.
Somehow the SNAP function was not “snapping” in alignment with the X and Y axes.
After experimenting with settings I found a solution.
But why the solution worked I DO NOT KNOW.
It isn’t “LOGICAL”.
As I typed the command SNAP I saw that command “suggestions” were displayed next to the crosshairs.
I selected these snap options one at a time and through this experimentation I stumbled onto the solution.
The command which “worked” was a command called SNAPANG. In 30 years of working in AutoCAD, both 2D and 3D, I have never used the command SNAPANG.
However, nothing ventured, nothing gained:
I typed the command SNAPANG <enter> then typed 1 <enter>.
Nothing changed.
I reentered the command SNAPANG and then entered the previous value 0 (zero) thinking that I was restoring it to its previous setting and suddenly the GRID appeared and the SNAP followed with perfect alignment with the GRID and in perfect alignment with the X and Y axes. As I entered the LINE command and watched the coordinates displayed at the crosshairs they were now in perfect increments of .25.
As I said initially, since the two command-driven settings that I entered should have simply reversed one another, I have gone into this great detail because I will send this on to AutoCAD’s support people and see if they have any comment. It must be a “bug” in the new version of AutoCAD.
AutoCAD exchange or any books that are available on the web. Everyone simply says "here, it exists" but I can't find a description of what object snap enforcement is, nor have I managed to figure it out from its behavior in AutoCAD.

is there 3D object snap tracking?
The one with the glasses and lank hair, sitting at the back with no mates!
Now have CS3, and cant get the selection to snap!
When using the MARQUEE it positions the selection 2 pixels up and 1 pixel to the left of the guide (on the outside).
The guides will snap to the selection, however.
Sometimes when GUIDES are LOCKED the selection will snap to a guide, but not always.
Also, in the old days the curser would turn red when on a guide when lined up corrctly. This doesn't seem to happen now.
And in the mists of time do I remember correctly that there was a setting in which you could choose the snap distance?
How to use keyboard shortcut to allow for a temporary override of my "Nearest" OSNAP. I often find myself pulling leaders from splines and/or circles and need the "Nearest" OSNAP active.
I was in CUI and saw the temp override shortcut key was setup but inactive as it has no ties to any keys. I also saw others setup with shortcuts keys and decided to give them a demo. While in a line command (for example) i held 'SHIFT + C' to trigger the temp override of "Center." It didn't seem to work. Dynamic input popped up as if i was entering "C."
I want 'SHIFT + N' to be temp override for "Nearest" OSNAP.As a side note, i was able to set up ACAD to zoom extents and close dwg simultaneously with 'CTRL + W' without any hiccups.
When using object snap feature, if a particular point has multiple roles, by which I mean it could be {endpoint, node point, circle, intersection, etc.} at the same time, is there a way to toggle the snap point selection?
mt.png
For example, does there existKey or key combination 1: Change the object snap mode to “single” amongst all enabled modes. Key or key combination 2: Iterate one by one through all available modes.

I no longer seem to be able to snap to the nodes of block attributes.
My osnap settings are set to snap to nodes. I wonder whether it's a variable that on my previous version of AutoCAD was set to one thing and the new version defaults to another.
I love the feature of Object Snap Tracking but for some reason or another it has stopped working. I normally use F11 to turn it on or go through the drafting settings menu to turn it on. The Object Snap Tracking box is checked and should work, but it doesn't. Is there a magic variable that needs to be set?

Using AutoCAD from another drafting program and trying to determine if AutoCAD has a feature I have become used to. The program I am using is Vectorworks and they have these items called loci. They are basically just snap points that do not print and are not actually geometry. They are great though for aligning items and referencing points. Is there a similar item in autocad?

Using the area tool, I want to find the area of the path, but it arcs around a 180 degree corner. I tried getting a rough estimate of the area by clicking at several points along each of the arcs, but after clicking a point where the arc joins the straight line of the straight section of the path, it literally won't let me click the next point. I can, however, specify the next point as long as it's nowher near the arc. Same goes for the polyline tool.
Just got an error code for the Service Pack installation, too. "A problem prevented the service pack from being installed, contact your administrator. Error 1603"
As I move my cross hairs over an object in a drawing it wants to select or highlight the object without clicking on it. On detailed models/drawings it takes alot of time and is almost impossible to use. Is there a way to turn or toggle this function off?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn my application, users will insert predefined blocks which have simple shapes like rectangle, square or circle.
Users will connect some polyline or lines to the blocks inserted. My task is that blocks must have snap points only on their center so that the polylines must be connected to the block center point not to other points such that midpoints, end points of the edges.
I wonder if there is a way to override snap points of the blocks while other entities' snap points do not change.
My Object Snap settings will not stay "set". Each day i have to reset the options i wish for each dwg i open up that day. also the settings do not stay set even when working on same dwg for several hours. Every couple hours i have to reset them to my options.
