Any way of creating a block attribute that will reference the z value of a separate 3d model (topographical survey) at a given point?
I know the z value of the block itself can be listed as a simple block attribute but I need the reference to check for the z value of an unlinked model which will be inserted/ x-reffed beneath the block.
I am trying to insert a text field into a block attribute and setting that field to display the information of an attribute in another block. What happens is that when I close the file and re-open it the text field loses its connection to the attribute that it is referencing.
Now, I have been able to make this work in the passed, however the difference now is that I am asking the text field to reference an attribute of an annotative block. That appears to be the reason it does not work.
How to make this work with annotative blocks? Is it a system variable I can change?
I just started a new job and am struggling to set everything up the way my old company had AutoCad configured. My old company actually had people that were involved in writing the code for AutoCad on the payroll, so hopefully what I'm looking for isn't some intense computer programming issue.
In short, I am trying to be able to create a generic title block in model space, and reference that title block into paper space of a new drawing without having to create a new tab or anything first. A new paper space tab is automatically created upon attaching the new title block. My old company had its own custom menu bar with lots of custom commands, so the work flow would go something like this: "Old company name" in menu bar -> "Insert" -> "Title Blocks" -> "24x36 title block" (or whatever size we wanted to use obv). Once the desired title block size was selected, a new tab would be created in paper space with the title block as an xref, and a copy of the generic title block was saved to the main folder containing drawings of the project, and could be edited with the specific project info from there.
Is there a semi-easy way to do this, or is this a coding issue that a non-programmer such as myself might have some difficulty doing?
I have a rather complex assembly that I didn't draft but I am trying to work with. Most of my experience is with Solidworks. I'm trying to create a hole in a plate that lines up with a hole in a different part in the same assembly. I know there is probably a way to create the hole in the assembly and reference the other part but I dont know how.

I have a master assembly containing three sub-assemblies 1, 2 & 3.I require 3 Drawings from this master assembly.

This sounds so simple but is it possible?We have tried all manner of configurations with LOD.I'm not really keen on locking design views as the assemblies can change at any time.
This happens on more than one document. A ueser showed me when she references in place, you just see the cursor spinning in a circle. Internet is NOT open, just Outlook.

I want to create a live instance of an existing FG-Profile that I somebody else did into our master profile drawing. Is there an easy way to do this? I don't want to data reference it in.
I tried exporting the FG-Profile information into a .txt file and then use the "create a profile from file", but for whatever reason C3D didn't like my profile info was giving me an error message.
We have an issue that I'm trying to work on and get a solution to move forward on a current project. Previously when using a pneumatic cylinder, the procedure has been to set the stroke length as a permanent extrusion and not have it flexible. I have created a few new cylinders that have flexible strokes, and then have positions set up as well. We want these cylinders to be available for all projects and to be uneditable, essentially we need them in the library. What is happening is when we place this part from the library and make it flexible in a project the assembly becomes dirty and is requesting to save the file before checking the main assembly back into the vault. What am I doing wrong? Is it not possible to have a library assembly file that is flexible in another project?

I know I can use the expresion "$(getvar,ctab)" to reference the current layout tab name but is there a way to reference say the layout in previous or next tab in reference to the current tab. I am doing some plan and profile drawings which contain match lines I would like to have the match line text automated. For example if I'm on layout called PP02 there would be two match lines in the drawing one would read MATCH LINE PP01 and the other would read MATCH LINE PP03 I would like to automate this so the PP01 of PP02 is referencing the previous or next tab.

My project site drawings are set to state plane coordinate systems. Does coordinate transformation automatically occur with data references?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to reference an object in the Data Shortcuts menu, when I right-click the a profile in Prospector under Data Shortcuts, the option to "Create Reference..." is grayed out, and I am unable to reference that profile into the drawing I am working on. It works fine on other profiles that are being referenced from the same drawing.
I have tried:
1. Re-creating the alignment and profile data shortcut in the drawing being referenced
2. Creating a reference in my drawing to the alignment, which actually works. However, it still does not allow me to "create reference" for the profile.
3. Refreshing the data shortcuts.
4. Synchronizing the alignment referenced in the drawing.
Nothing seems to work. My only other option is to move the C3D profiles from the referenced drawing to the drawing I am working in. Is there a way to do this?
I have been provided survey data in the form of an XML file that I am using to build a surface. Everything is fine, except for the drawing with the surface is still referencing the XML file. What is the best method to remove this reference and have the surface fully contained in one file? Using C3D 2012.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm going through some customer equipment models and setting them up in my library for referencing. For example, I'll setup a machine that belongs to a customer, then reference it through a library when I design new tooling and/or components to work with existing equipment.
One such machine is a simple positioner. It's got a linear slide for "X" movement that's got an arm on a mounting plate. The slide has some amount of travel, say 500mm or so. And the mounting plate has 5 sets of mounting holes. So the arm can have four bolts removed and be mounted in any (1) of (5) different locations. This is in addition to the slide's travel.
When I design future assemblies and components for this, I'd like to be able to insert the assembly from a library into my "new" assembly in a flexible configuration where I can set it up using any combination of mounting holes AND slide travel.
So I can setup (5) different positional reps for the mounting hole configs. That's easy. With respect to the slide, I can create a constraint that allows the arm to extend and retract, but how can I get the library assembly to "rest" in multiple locations? For example, I may work on Design A that needs the extension at 241mm and Design B at 316mm.
Would I need to setup a different Pos Rep in the library assembly for the requirements of every new design? Unfortunately, the design is proprietary to the customer, so I really can't post anything about it.

The need for a way to get a rebar schedule made referencing my Inventor parts. Like to know if you can create your concrete walls, slabs, beams etc... and either place rebar in these Inventor files and then create some type of rebar schedule (table?) or something. Or take the concrete walls, slabs, beams etc... and import into another Autodesk product like Revit and have this create the schedules and then export back to Inventor. Is any of this been done or possible? Want Inventor to have the end product.

So a main scene contains all the information from multiple artists, and as they work on their individual pieces the main scene updates as each individual file is updated. I know i heard of a way in maya 2008, but that was over 3 years ago and can not remember what it was called.

Is the ability to bind a mesh that is part of an Assembly Reference something that will be coming in a future release? I'd like to be able to bind both a high-poly and a low-poly mesh to one rig using scene assembly. That way I can swap armor parts, weapons, etc on one rig without cutting/pasting animation between rigs.
I've attached a picture of a sample of what I'm referring to. If that isn't workable, any other workflow that is comparable?
One day until final plot, and we have a project where 3/4 of the enlarged plan callouts and associated views have lost their "Referencing Sheet" and "Referencing Detail" information.
1. What could have caused this?
2. How to get it back, short of removing the affected views and recreating the sheets?
We make a small Animation Movie and from time to time we stumble upon strange behaviours of the referencing pipeline.
There is a Kitchen that will be the scenery for the Movie Scene Set up: all models i.e the toaster, the fridge ansd so on are modeled and saved.then in the Kitchen File we have an empty scene where all the objects are referenced in. thats the "model master"scene.now we referenced the toaster_model into toaster_shaded, did all the shading and changed the references in the kitchen from toaster_model to toaster_shaded.
On some objects we noticed, that the updates made on the models for examlpe if we scale up the toaster on 2 and freeze transforms afterwards, the change is not updated in the Kitchen file. But after a few days the update works...

In Revit 2012, I have a plan view (overall, first floor) which is "Independent" but also shows another view as the "Referencing Sheet." When I visit the sheets referenced, I can't identify a reference. The problem is that the "Referencing Sheet" is showing in our title block and we'd prefer to show a blank for Independent views.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have built a family and added various types; I have then nested this into my final family and would like to change the nested family type dependant on the final family’s type. (Hope that makes sense). I can do all of this until I want to make a catalogue.
This is what I did:
-Made a family and added types.
-Made a new family.
-Bought in the 1st family.
-Selected the nested family and added a parameter called "Attachment".
This all works fine I can change the type of the nested family in the edit type dialog box. But I need to make a type catalogue and when I export the family types as a txt document the attachment parameter doesn’t appear. So how do I reference this?

I wish to create a formula for a family parameter which itself references a 'Type' of an imported family. Specifically I wish to create a quoin stack which can be used for a 'reveal' situation either side of a door or window rather than just on a corner. A 'quoin stack,' as that which comes with the revit content files, typically is made up of two vertical arrays which intersect giving alternative long and short sides. Each of the arrays is made up of a different quoin type, a 'Short' and a 'Long' type which swap dimensions from from perpendicular face to the other. This of course is no good for a reveal situation where on the window or door reveal of both interleived courses needs to be the same, whilst maintaining the 'long/short' appearance on the wall face containing the window or door.
I have got so far as to create a 'reveal depth' parameter within the quoin stack family but need to find a way of addressing the 'Long' quoin type to change its 'short' dimension to suit the reveal depth whilst changing the 'long' dimension of the 'Short' quoin type to be the same.
Having problems with *.3ds exports no longer referencing color/diffuse textures? All I get is a white square now. Everything works fine in 2012 (standard install)

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have our first project in Revit that we are having to split among multiple sheets because of the size of the building, so I have made 3 dependent views from the main overall view, named them, cropped them and placed each part (A,B, and C) on separate sheets. Now that I am trying to do enlarged toilet plan views, I want to tag the plans with the plan callouts on the 1/8” sheets that are the dependent views, but all the view tags are referencing dependent view A since it is the first dependent view in the list. If I change sheet A to be named Sheet X for instance, all the view tags now reference sheet B since that becomes the first dependent view alphabetically. I want them to reference the sheet they appear in, but I can’t seem to figure out how to do that, even though they are in different dependent views completely and within the crop region, they all default to the first dependent view in alphabetical order.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe use a number of blocks with block tables for data extraction here, and whenever one of the blocks is modified and updated, all of the block tables reset to the default value. This happens for any block reference change, not just changes to the block table (which makes sense that it would reset).
How can we update these blocks without having to manually change all of the block tables afterwards?
I am in the process of fixing one of our dynamic blocks. It's a fairly simple fix where there was a typo in one of the names of our items in the lookup that needed to be fixed.
I changed the name of the item in the lookup table. I went and did the test block and it seemed to work fine, but when I bring the block into a drawing, it reverts back to the old lookup as if I did nothing at all.
I made sure that the path was correct and I even just dragged and dropped straight from Windows Explorer to no avail.Does AutoCAD keep referring to the old block? Did I forget to change something else?
I have a block containing several parts blocks. When I explode the main block all of the parts are exploded back to lines. I have used both "explode" and "xplode" and have the same results. How can I explode so I have my components as blocks?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWe're using C3D 2013 SP2. The survey company we use uses point styles to show the blocks. Say they shoot a catchbasin. Instead of inserting the block, the point shows up as the block.
I did a field check & needed to insert a missed CB. When I inserted the block, the other points that were CBs disappeared. I had to insert the block, copy it the clipboard, undo the insertion & then paste the block in. It did this on other drawings & other blocks.
