AutoCAD 2010 :: Freezes When Referencing In Place?
Nov 8, 2012This happens on more than one document. A ueser showed me when she references in place, you just see the cursor spinning in a circle. Internet is NOT open, just Outlook.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Rtext Expression For Referencing Tab Layouts?
Aug 31, 2012I know I can use the expresion "$(getvar,ctab)" to reference the current layout tab name but is there a way to reference say the layout in previous or next tab in reference to the current tab. I am doing some plan and profile drawings which contain match lines I would like to have the match line text automated. For example if I'm on layout called PP02 there would be two match lines in the drawing one would read MATCH LINE PP01 and the other would read MATCH LINE PP03 I would like to automate this so the PP01 of PP02 is referencing the previous or next tab.

Nov 4, 2013AutoCAD has been freezing randomly when I start it. It will get to the screen below (top image) and.... that's it. It stays that way and does not change. I have waited up to 15 mintues before restarting my computer as trying to start AutoCAD again doesn't seem to change anything.
I have learned that the Devices and Printers window will also be blank when this occures (bottom image). I can now predict when AutoCAD won't open by opening the Devices and Printers window first. I think the issue is unrelated to AutoCAD, rather the issue is my computer not refreshing the Devices and Printers. When CAD is loading the list of available printers it can't find any so it continues to look and.... never gives up.... I can't even print a PDF from Adobe Reader while the Devices and Printers window is in this state (this is actually how I found that the Devices and Printers window was blank). I have not tested to see if ALL applications fail to print, but that is a separate issue.
what is causing my computer not to open the Devices and Printers window successfully?
I am running AutoCAD 2011 64 bit, windows 7, Novell Network.

Dec 14, 2011My view is freezing in Architecture 2012 and when I close out of my drawing and open it again, the problem is fixed. What am I doing to make it freeze? It seems like it does it the most if I am in isometric. Also, I am working in a project manager and there are no Xref's attached.

Oct 2, 2012we have a new lab in our district with Autocad 2010 64-bit version installed on HP Compaq 8022 Elite SFF computers. There is 4 GB memory on the computers and a Quadro 400 graphics card. Autocad and Windows 7 64-bit have both been updated to the latest versions. The Autocad application locks up almost every time someone chooses the new document icon, or when they try to 'save as'. Sometimes when they choose to open a new document first, close that dialogue box, then try to choose the new document icon it works ok. But, for the most part, the application is unuesable. Some possible solutions we found online that don't work are to not use the Aero themes (we don't) and to not use Norton AV (we don't).

Jul 5, 2011Just got AutoCad 2012. Commands like Mirror and Copy which involve duplication (no problem with Move or Rotate, for example) will cause AutoCad to not respond for a few minutes. I believe it only is an issue with files brought forward from AutoCad 2000.

Oct 1, 2013If I place a link to a dwg as a hyperlink in an Excel file, AutoCAD freezes. It opens the drawing, then AutoCAD is completely locked. I have to close it through task manager.
This has been tested wih multiple drawings and excel file and it happens in all of them. I'm using Excel 2010 and AutoCAD 2010.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Named Views - Set Current Freezes New Layers
Oct 9, 2012I have a drawing with several views I've saved using the View Manager. Since creating the views, I have created some new layers. Now when I use View Manager to set an existing model space view current, the new layers are set to frozen. When I created the views, I un-checked the 'Save layer snapshot with view' checkbox.
I can thaw the new layers, then use the 'Update layers' button to correct this, but it's a hassle. Why is it freezig layers created after the view was created?

Jun 6, 2011Whenever I place a copy or paste from the clipboard AutoCAD freezes for about 5 -8 seconds and is very annoying. Time is money people. I know it's not a RAM issue. I don't have the problem with 2011 when I go back to it. What gives Autodesk? When is the next service pack due? This only happens with teh copy command

Mar 13, 2012Is there a way to duplicate in place? I have a instance where I am using a lot of subtractions and I want to have multiple copies of objects in the exact same position. I am finding that when I do copy I often snap to the object but the direction for depth relative to the view I am in ends up being different. Example being I have a 2" Diameter circle extrude that I want to be 120" long. I created that. I want a copy of it in the same position. I am looking from the front so all I see is the circle. I select copy and grab the center point and snap to the centerpoint. Now I have its zero at the other's 120" mark. I am hoping I could just run a duplicate command, but I cannot seem to find that.

Feb 27, 2012When saving an AutoCAD drawing there is a Thumbnail image saved (if you have the option turn on), but when the command "Edit Xref In-Place" is used there is no Thumbnail image saved. So now when I try to preview any drawing that has been edited through this command there is no longer a thumbnail.
I am using AutoCAD 2012 and the option to save a thumbnail is turned ON.

Mar 19, 2012I am trying edit an Xref in place in a sheet file both through the paper space view port or within the sheet file's model space but receive a pop-up warning that states "Selected Xref Block is NOT editable". Other sheet files are set up the same way and allow edit Xref in-place.

This has caused the particular dwg files to expand from 300k to 4mb.
Purging seems to have no effect. Is there any way of reducing the file size on these back to normality?

Oct 6, 2010First of all a little bit about the hardware/software:
- Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit
- ACAD2011 with 1.1
- Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS (not a supported graphic card from what I know)
- Intel i5-750
Since we got that out of the way let's get to it.
A week ago I was told that a lot of times the PC's freeze when you try to "Save", "Save as" or "Open" a file (we open/save on a network drive). If that happens we have to restart the PC and hope it doesn't happen again, but since this happens quite a lot (over the course of four days about 27 times on 7 PC's) I tried to fix this.
I installed the patch, updated the drivers for the graphic card and reinstalled NET Framework 4. The problem didn't occur as often but it still happened sometimes.

I'm trying to create a hole in a plate that lines up with a hole in a different part in the same assembly. May 1, 2013I have a master assembly containing three sub-assemblies 1, 2 & 3.I require 3 Drawings from this master assembly.
Drawing 1 showing master assembly, sub-assemblies 1 in full and 2 & 3 in reference.

This sounds so simple but is it possible?We have tried all manner of configurations with LOD.I'm not really keen on locking design views as the assemblies can change at any time.
AutoCAD LT :: Field Referencing Block Attribute
Apr 9, 2013I am trying to insert a text field into a block attribute and setting that field to display the information of an attribute in another block. What happens is that when I close the file and re-open it the text field loses its connection to the attribute that it is referencing.
Now, I have been able to make this work in the passed, however the difference now is that I am asking the text field to reference an attribute of an annotative block. That appears to be the reason it does not work.
How to make this work with annotative blocks? Is it a system variable I can change?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Freezes For Few Seconds Every 30-60 Seconds?
May 28, 2012Autocad freezes for a few seconds every 30-60 seconds. it did this on my previous full autocad 2011 and now on 2012. i have also had a reinstall. it also does it on the other users computers in the office and also those on LT.
the freeze is rondom. it can be triggered by commands, escape button, panning arround the drawing. The problem occurs periodically for say 1 day every few days autocad will have pauses. But other days its fast with no problems.
i have tried all the usual things for slow down. purge, audit, layerdlgmode. I do not think it is general slow down.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Importing (Not Data Referencing) Profile
Jun 15, 2012I want to create a live instance of an existing FG-Profile that I somebody else did into our master profile drawing. Is there an easy way to do this? I don't want to data reference it in.
I tried exporting the FG-Profile information into a .txt file and then use the "create a profile from file", but for whatever reason C3D didn't like my profile info was giving me an error message.
