AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Referencing A Data-Link Profile
Sep 9, 2010
When I try to reference an object in the Data Shortcuts menu, when I right-click the a profile in Prospector under Data Shortcuts, the option to "Create Reference..." is grayed out, and I am unable to reference that profile into the drawing I am working on. It works fine on other profiles that are being referenced from the same drawing.
I have tried:
1. Re-creating the alignment and profile data shortcut in the drawing being referenced
2. Creating a reference in my drawing to the alignment, which actually works. However, it still does not allow me to "create reference" for the profile.
3. Refreshing the data shortcuts.
4. Synchronizing the alignment referenced in the drawing.
Nothing seems to work. My only other option is to move the C3D profiles from the referenced drawing to the drawing I am working in. Is there a way to do this?
I want to create a live instance of an existing FG-Profile that I somebody else did into our master profile drawing. Is there an easy way to do this? I don't want to data reference it in.
I tried exporting the FG-Profile information into a .txt file and then use the "create a profile from file", but for whatever reason C3D didn't like my profile info was giving me an error message.
I have 50+ project sites scattered along a 600+ mile alignment. My alignment reference drawing coordinate system is set to a UTM coordinate system. My project site drawings are set to state plane coordinate systems. Does coordinate transformation automatically occur with data references?
i have created a data band in profile view that should show a created profiles elevation, but some of the the data fields are missing irregulary. Also in the data band that shoud show the diferenece betven the tow profiles - EG and the new profile the data is missing. The EG profiles data and the surface are ok all is shown.
how to remove this link from my template. I don't see the table in MS or PS. When I right-click on the link I get the message: "The data link is being used and cannot be deleted."
We recently tried to convert a RAW data file to FBK and the program aborted after running several setups. I have viewed the raw data on the data collector, but there appears to be no error. What other methods of conversion could I use to convert the RAW data file to a TXT file? I was hoping that our local AutoCad/Topcon dealer would be able to have a work-around, but they seemed stumped too. We have never encountered a problem usitlizing the Survey data Collection Link with any of our traverses prior to this time.
We use Survey Data Collection Link to convert our file formats, in this case it is a GPS job exported from a TSC2 using Trimble Survey Controller Version 12.46. I exported the job from the data collector as a .csv file then use SDCL to convert the .csv into a .fbk file. I am getting this error saying the file is invalid or in use. We ran into this problem a couple months ago and it disappeared after a couple days, and now it has resurfaced.
Running Autocad Civil 3d 2012 with Service Pack 2, Windows 7 64-bit OS.
I'm messing around with tables and data links, practicing. I copied a range of cells in Excel, and did paste special to create a linked table.
Now I can delete the table object, but I cannot delete the link, cannot detach it.
When in Data Manager if I right click on the data link and click delete I get the error message "The data link is being used and cannot be deleted".
I have tried detaching, and the detach does not seem to take.
Now also, the table will not update from the source xls.
Win XP, AcadLT 2011, Office 2010. Using compatible setting for saving spreadsheet, for Office 2007 (not xlsx).
If I create a linked table by starting with the Table icon, choose "from a data link", choose the excel spreadsheet, etc., then I am able to later update the table from the spreadsheet, detach, delete the link, etc. But I can only delete the link if the table is not selected when I open the Data Link Manager.
But the one that was created following the directions from the Autocad video, with the copy, paste special, that link will not detach nor delete.
In order to have a data band at the bottom of my profile label the station and invert of my sewer pipe I just created a profile along the pipe and then have a data band in my profile that labels that profile. I have that profile style set to not plot so this way I can leave it on all the time. This is all fine and well. I have labels every 100' that label the station and invert elevation but at times I want to label miscellaneous locations along my pipe such as a bend or something. How do I add an addition data band label to achieve this? Everything I have found only lets me have these labels at a specified increment set in the band style.
When we are producing cross sections through our surfaces, the chainages are every 10m, and the level at these chainages. This is fine in some cases, but when you have batter slopes, you want a level at the top of slope, and bottom of slope. How do you get the chainages at these areas. I have attached a sample image, showing a dashed line where I want a chainage and level in the bands. Is there a way to do this?
EDIT: The attached section is produced from an alignment through the surfaces,
So I've got a collection of the LabelGroupSubEntity in the ProfileDataBandLabelGroup. I need to replace some values inside them based on what Vertical Geometry Point they are labeling. Is there an easy way to determine what station value it is labeling?
I am using Civil 3D 201...When creating profile data shortcuts, the tree view in tool space incorrectly associates the profiles with several alignments. This appears to be due to multiple alignments having the same object ID. This happens when importing alignments from LandXML (a procedure we use to move alignments from one project to another) into a template after inserting exactly the same xrefs into each new alignment drawing.
The workaround appears to be copying the alignment into a different site, deleting the original alignment, then moving the new alignment back to the original site. Obviously, this changes the object ID so it is more likely to be unique.
I want to show the information on the attached document in the drawing also attached in civl 3d. The final outcome layout of band data i want is titled wanted outcome and the drawing is preliminary vertical long section.
2. Create or use an alignment within that surface boundary.
3. Create or use a Surface Profile along that alignment from that surface.
4. Make that surface profile Static instead of Dynamic.
5. Copy that Surface Profile to a Layout Profile.
6. Copy that Layout profile and Raise all VPIs in that profile by 0.25 ft (3 inches).
7. Create data shortcuts for that surface, alignment, profiles.
8. In a new drawing, reference those Data Shortcuts: surface, alignment, all 3 profiles.
Problem: The Reference to the profile that I raised by 3 inches doesn't reference in Raised. I had to re-create all the profiles in my new drawing to get the raised profile.
I can attach my drawing in which my surface, alignments, profiles reside - where data shortcuts were created, my _Shortcuts folder, and the 2nd drawing.
I am trying to share the surface, multiple alignments, all the profiles with my CAD designer and other team members via Data Shortcuts and need for them to reference in correctly.
I have profiles in viewports were the data from the bands are shifting to a point above my bands. The profiles are correct in model space but not in paperspace, when I return to a layout tab. If I go into the viewport and regen then the data will temporarily go back to its correct location. If I switch between layouts the data shift. If I try to select the band data the pick point are above the bands, where they default to. This affect not one band but all bands associated with that profile;elevations, stations, pipe data. This wasn't an issue at first it just started happening to the drawing. The drawings were fine and I plotted out a check set to review and when I go back to fix a couple of things this started happening.
I have three profiles all set to 1:5. Two viewports are 1:500 and a third is 1:250, three different layouts. The 1:250 profile only affect the pipe data only and not the elev or the stations data. I have attached a screen shot showing the same profile in two viewports the left one shows the new default position of the band data and the right one is a regenerated viewport showing were the data should be.
I am fairly new to the Civil side of AutoCAD, as I used to work primarily in Map. I am working on a street rehab project in which I need to take survey points showing existing elevations (centerline, flowline, and top of curb) and show existing profiles in a profile view. I have no problems setting up the profile view(s) or the centerline alignment, but I am having problems with creating the profiles themselves, and I have a two part question about them
Question 1: According to the user's guide, the correct way to set up an "existing" profile is by extracting it from a surface, but I don't have a surface to use. In reading through the various profile types, the best way to set up what I want seems to be by using the profile layout tools, but the help says that a profile layout is supposed to be for a final "proposed" profile, not the existing. Does this actually matter? Will I be breaking Civil functionality by creating an existing profile using the profile layout tools?
Question 2: In reading through the profile layout tools, everything seems to be centered around PVI's. Even using the "tangent tangent" method to add in points seems to only use the first and last point as controls, with everything in between treated as a PVI. If you look at the documentation here, points one and four are treated as actual elevations, while curvature occurs at points 2 and 3. In my case, since what I have is a series of actual points on a surface, each point should be an actual surface elevation with curvature occurring between points and not at them. What method should I be using to input the points in the profile?
I have a drawing that contains an alignment and 2 profiles (existing and proposed). Call this File A.
I created data shortcuts for these 3 objects and reference them in many drawings.
Last week File A was having some problems, it was inexplicably large and seemed to have some corruption I couldn't fix. So I created a new drawing, call it File B, and promoted the alignment and profiles into it.
I used Data Shortcut Editor to point the data shortcuts to File B. In drawings that already referenced these objects they look like the they are coming through just fine.
The problem is that I can't see the profiles listed in the Data Shortcuts section of prospector. The shortcuts folder selected is correct, the xml file is there, it points to File B. The alignment is listed and I can create that reference in a new drawing. I also can't find anything wrong with File B.
I have 2 different surfaces (Existing Ground & Proposed Pipe Invert) that I want to have the elevations shown for in a profile data band, but I want them to show at the design profile's PVIs (Proposed Road). Is it possible to set up a data band style that samples at one profile's geometry points but displays the elevations from these points from a different profile? My workaround is to set the data bands to all sample from the design profile first and label over the design profile's data band but I'm hoping for a cleaner solution. Attached is an image showing the profile view in question.
Im currently having problems with my profiles showing vertical curve data on a superimposed profile. The data shows on the normal profile however when i superimpose it to another profile i cant get the program to show it.
What is causing my EG Data Reference Surface to disappear on screen and Profile goes to crap? I've noticed this twice on same project in separate drawings. If I go to Toolspace and synchronize then it appears back on screen.
First dwg: I created a Pump Station Site Plan and data referenced in my surface and pipe network. I save and close then reopen and EG is gone until I synchronize.
Second dwg: I created a Railroad Crossing Exhibit showing plan and profile. I data referenced in my surface and pipe network. Same thing...save, close, reopen and I have to synchronize it to have plan and profile to appear ok.
This isn't good when I have .dsd files that I typically plot my drawing package from. I sent multiple sets of drawings to the plotter and all my Pump Station Site Plans were missing the surface contours. For this sheet, I had to synchronize and send separate plots just to have contours appear.
I have a drawing with Objects that have both Object Data and Linked data in an Access database. I need to get information from the linked table to a new linked table for each object.
I have thought that if I get the necessary information from the Linked table record to the object data for each object, I could then convert the Object data to a new link and am looking for a way to copy the data from a field in the Linked Table to the object data. There is at least one field common to both the OD and Linked Table record.
In my company, they have just upgraded the old version of Autocad LT 2004 to the new 2013 and we have created menu to make our job easy. I have try to transfer the menu file .mnc to 2013 but it's not working or I don't do it the right way.
