AutoCAD .NET :: Create Construction Geometry That Would Behave As Polyline Bulge
Sep 9, 2013
I would like to create a construction geometry that would behave as the Polyline Bulge. In other worlds I would like to create a Construction Arc that would have a Bulge. Upon examination, I was not able to locate any of the Construction Geometry that has a bulge.
The purpose of this is to determine the Bulge location (direction) of the polyline I am creating.
I would like to stay away from creating a database geometry, if possible.

I'm writing a VBA to reverse the direction of a closed polyline, with bulges. it seems to be working except where the last point joins the first. If there is a bulge between the last point and the first point, it doesn't seem to register, and when the reversal is finished, the last bulge is reversed.
Is there a trick to getting and/or setting the bulge between the last and first points of a closed polyline? If I get the bulge from the last point, it says Zero, even though it's rounded.

I would like to select a polyline that will either be straight or contain bulges and offset lines either side of it a prescribed amount, I have tried a couple of options that don't involve picking points on both sides to no avail.

Currently I save all my 2D DWGs as IGES files and then import the files into Inventor. That converts all the geometry to Construction Wires in an IPT, which means MUCH improved performance (you don't have to wait for Inventor to convert every single entity in the DWG to a Sketch entity). I then start a new Sketch and Project those lines that I need from the Construction Wires.
Is there a way to do this directly (convert to Construction Wires) with a DWG, without having to save as an IGES file first?

Is there any way to give selection priority to real geometry instead of construction geometry? Every time I go to dimension or constrain IV wants to to pick the construction geometry first. I would like very much to change that.

I wonder how do you create a concrete construction under the stairs?
The way ACA creates stairs looks like just a top layer (tiles or wood panels), but I want to put those tiles on a concrete construction.

I would like to create a label that can be copied on a construction drawing that will label various materials. The last time I did this I drew a circle, put text inside, and attached a leader. Every time I wanted to label another instance of a material I had to copy all three things which was too repetitive. I think there is a way to create a dynamic block where all of these things are one block that can be selected and moved with one click but the leader is still adjustable.

I want to create a animation like this with a very Engineering Drawing theme to it: URL....I have also attached two images (stills) from the animation.
The question is, how do I create the "construction" lines (i.e. the blue marker lines) that go beyond the models? Is this something I should consider doing in post?
My current approach is to use planes with textures of the "construction" lines and linked to 3D models. The lines would also look like marker pen/pencil lines.
An alternative could be to use lots of lines and make then render-able but then they would look too perfect and not pencil graphite or marker lines.

I am looking for a way to create a master list of construction notes then use blocks attributes with fields to link to that master list. That way if the master list changed the note bubbles would change as well.
Sheet sets are being used with this project but I can't think of a way to make it work with the existing sheet set technology.

Everything is on one layout/sheet.
Currently there are a total of 3 viewports in an L formation. The fourth viewport, will go in the upper right. But first, I have to get these aligned.
I think the viewports themselves are fine enough. The problems arise because the model is in Model space so, construction line (as far as I can tell) didn't want to snap to a line, (on the model,) in Paper space.(vertical or horizontal) So, I can only see the construction line, in one viewport at a time. Which means, the construction line is not visible in the viewport immediately to the left. So, I can't extend the construction line across both viewports, to to snap them to the construction line.

Is there a tutorial for importing 2D AutoCAD geomtetry and using it as a basis for your 3D sketches? I'm sure in a demo somewhere I saw someone using 2D layouts to quickly start creating 3D geometry from.
To clarify i'm not referring to the add-in in AutoCAD Labs but the actual process to do this using Inventor tools.

The technique of making an envelope distortion with the Top Object is very useful, because you can apply the same distortion (that is, the same top object) to any number of objects and at any time.
I'd like to use meshes in the same way. I don't want to apply mesh colour, or any other mesh property than its shape: I just want to use the mesh shape as a re-usable distorter.
(I've tried using the mesh as a Top Object, but the resulting error message is not useful. And I've also tried editing the mesh contents, but this doesn't work as there's no way to replace the contents with other objects.)

On one part, I have a bore hole drilled on a curved surface so the hole is actually an ellipse.
Now the other part I am trying to constrain together is the pipe that will be welded into the bore hole; so that is a simple circular pipe.
The issue is that the pipe has to be inserted 0.25" above the interior of the bore hole to allow for room for the weld. In order to do this I have tried to create a plane attached to the 3D ellipse and then constrain the pipe to be 0.25" above that plane. The problem is I cannot seem to create a plane attached to the 3D geometry; I cant even find a way to attach points, or pick the center point of the bore hole.
How to create a plane on 3D geometry and link it to said geometry. I'm using 2012, if that is necessary information.

I want to create a structure using the attached part geometry, what would be the best way to make the crosses coincident with the two long columns? (just like the 2 at the top but without having to manually trim each line, if it could be constrained to variable parameters even better)
The structure has the same geometry on all four sides so i intend to circular patern the frame generator components around the Z axis, any better workflows?

I've created a fairly simple mesh in 3DS Max to use as topography in ACA. I'd like to be able to turn the geometry into a mass element or even a 3D Solid so that I can use it ACA, but this doesn't seem possible. I feel like Ive tried every conversion method I know how to do but ACA doesn't seem to have this ability, or least not a very strong ability.

I have an alignment for a natural gas pipeline.
I want to use the 'Create Points at Alignment Geometry' tool in order to label only the PIs. However, when I use the tool it creates two points (one called PI and one called CPI) at each vertex of the alignment. How can I fix this issue and toggle the creation of the various other geometry points?

I am using projected and sketched geometry (2D sketches) in assembly space to create lines/ points that I intend to use to define planes and axes. The problem I have is that nearly all the geometry I create (lines and points in 2D sketches) is not "selectable" when I try to create planes or axes. I cannot even put a work points "on top of" my sketch points. Why are my sketches not usable in the assembly space? Since the components in my model are just two extruded rings I don't have any linear edges I can select to make this work/ define planes.

I'm trying to create (in 3D workspace), a 3D polyline which starts from the "ground" and goes up the Z axis for 45 units (meters for example), then, the polyline continues "up" but in a 45 degree inclination, and then it goes up further but still 45 degrees from the last segment.
I attached a picture of this to the post, the top line is the one I want to create, and the bottom one is what I get.
The thing is that the 3dpoly command doesn't let me set the line on the Z plane, unless I fix it in ortho mode, and even after I do the first segment that way, the next one stays fixed in either the Z plane or the XY plane, but not in the 45 degree between them that I want....
P.S. - when I click the 3d polyline command, there are no options in the command area, just "specify first point...." - is this what should appear?

As part of a larger job we have surveyed the top of a dry stone wall. The client now wants that we make a solid for him from the surveyed points with a height of 2000mm (the drawing units are in millimetres).
A 3d polyline was created from the lines joining the points and I have that in the attached drawing.
I'm not looking for someone to create the wall, but I'm looking for the method to do it, as it will certainly crop up again with this new client. I've tried many ways in both AutoCAD and Civil 3D but just can't create the solid.

I've been going through some examples on [URL] to create polylines and i've managed to make some code run. One thing that I can't seem to find information on though, is how to use the default AutoCAD command line options in my code. For instance, I would like to be able to prompt the user whether they would like to snap the polyline to an insertion point, everytime they create a new verticie.
Below is some example code from the site that i'm working from:
namespace MyPlineApp
{
public class MyPlineCmds
[Code].....
