AutoCAD Inventor :: Stop Selecting Construction Geometry First?

Is there any way to give selection priority to real geometry instead of construction geometry? Every time I go to dimension or constrain IV wants to to pick the construction geometry first. I would like very much to change that.

Currently I save all my 2D DWGs as IGES files and then import the files into Inventor. That converts all the geometry to Construction Wires in an IPT, which means MUCH improved performance (you don't have to wait for Inventor to convert every single entity in the DWG to a Sketch entity). I then start a new Sketch and Project those lines that I need from the Construction Wires.
Is there a way to do this directly (convert to Construction Wires) with a DWG, without having to save as an IGES file first?
I would like to create a construction geometry that would behave as the Polyline Bulge. In other worlds I would like to create a Construction Arc that would have a Bulge. Upon examination, I was not able to locate any of the Construction Geometry that has a bulge.
The purpose of this is to determine the Bulge location (direction) of the polyline I am creating.
I would like to stay away from creating a database geometry, if possible.
I'm having a bit of an annoying issue regarding the text tool. I have a bunch of text layers in an invisible layer group. When I try to create new text in a layer that's outside of this layer group, it will select an existing text layer located wherever I click -- even though the selected text layer is invisible and in another layer group. I simply want to create new text on a new layer wherever I click and not worry about selecting invisible text.
I select a different layer or group, the Quick Mask channel is automatically selected. This forces me to switch to the Channels tab and select the RGB channel before I can perform work on a layer. Why is Photoshop automatically selecting the Quick Mask layer when switching between layers? I can't seem to find a setting for this and I'm not sure why, all of the sudden, it started doing this. Does anyone know how to stop this madness?
If I have a number of shapes on top of each other, with, for example, a drop shadow on the top shape, whenever I try and select the shape below it (it is peeking out from beneath the top shape, so I click on this 'peeking' section of the shape to try and select it) I cannot - it just selects the top shape as the top shape's drop shadow is 'blocking' the shape below it. Make sense? Â How do I go about about remedying this? I seem to recall being able to tell Illustrator to ignore 'effects' when making selections in CS4, but cannot work out how to do this in CS5. And is there a way to refine the 'sensitivity' or selection radius when clicking to make selections?
Currently there are a total of 3 viewports in an L formation. The fourth viewport, will go in the upper right. But first, I have to get these aligned.
I think the viewports themselves are fine enough. The problems arise because the model is in Model space so, construction line (as far as I can tell) didn't want to snap to a line, (on the model,) in Paper space.(vertical or horizontal) So, I can only see the construction line, in one viewport at a time. Which means, the construction line is not visible in the viewport immediately to the left. So, I can't extend the construction line across both viewports, to to snap them to the construction line.
How better to represent this shape - its a dome, which the height is a parameter (elispe), and the fins coming off the top of the dome are supposed to be angled (thicker at the bottom then the top), and the height of the fins needs to increase as they move towards the center.
I created a dome with a repeating pattern of fins but having trouble getting the varying thickness of each fin along with the varying height - the whole part I'm wanting it to be a thin wall shell that can be cast in aluminum and then cleaned up with cnc -
How to create some construction lines on the Inventor drawing? I have been used construction lines on the AutoCAD drawing; it is very convenient tools to use in the daily basic.
OK, today, or actually just this afternoon I've noticed it has become much harder to select items with the mouse.
Points, nodes, etc...anything where you'd typically hover the mouse over the item and it highlights for you to select it.
For example, lets say you want to project a point from another sketch, or select the center node of a line, etc.
Never really had an issue until this afternoon where now it seems I have to be right on top of the item and I cannot budge one bit or it won't select it. It is now taking me numerous attempts to select things like points (zooming in does not work, points scale accordingly).
Is there a setting somewhere? I can't seem to find such under Tools>Application Options and the like.
I would like to export sketches, but leave off the construction lines as they all show up the same in my CAM program. Â Is there a way to not export the construction lines? Â Possibly using the "Post Process" options of the Export Options. Â I am using 2013.
i've got this snowboard rack that i need to layout/markup with some #8 machine screw holes (with countersink for tapered wood screw head) - two on the end of each stretcher to fasten them to the uprights - 8 in total. I also want to layout 8 more holes on the stretchers themselves. I've got some center holes marked in the sketches..but they're not visible when i activate the hole feature so i can properly place the holes?Â
why i can't extrude the 4 spacers i've got sketched on the back of the stretchers into a solid . . . . i can only cut?
Is there any way to hide construction lines in Part & Assembly sketches in the same way you can in a Drawing sketch?
I know you can change the line colour to the background colour but this makes the lines invisible in sketch as well.
Not being able to hide the construction is making some layouts pretty pointless since relevant detail is obscured by the construction lines. Grounding the geommetry and deleting the construcion lines isn't an option since the sketches are part of the design development and not fixed.
I'm wanting to have vertical and horizontal construction lines already created whenever I start a sketch so that I can set symmetric constraints to the part I'm drawing up. At the moment, I have to draw both lines every time and constrain them to the center point. It would be much easier if it was already there when I started so I can start on the sketch right away. Is there a way to do this? I've included a photo of what I'd like to do.

I am trying to suppress features or Extrusions if the extrusions are outside of the Raduis of a contruction circle Called the OTL. I have added a model to look at. So lets say I have holes enougth for a 40" dia but I want only hole today for a 20" dia how do i suppress the holes on that radius. Sketch 10 is where the OTL contruction line is and its a radius so its always moving as I go from center out.
How in import 2D geometry into Inventor so I do not have to redraw the profile, only extrude the existing geometry. I tried to export from Autocad a IGES file, and then create a sketch plane in Inventor and project the geometry onto the sketch plane, but I ended up with a bunch of open loops. Perhaps, I have figured it out and real question is how to I close open loops?
I would like to be able to show an animation of a flat plate of material converging into a half hollow sphere (like a bowl). Its easy to model the beginning and end stae, but I do not know how to show it transitioning from one to the other.
How to do this? Â I need it for a presentation to convey a design concept.Â
I'm fairly new to the world of CAD, and I was just working on a phone case for my friend when I tried to extrude geometry text, but couldn't because the OK and Apply options were greyed out. I tried embossing and making a hole, but they were greyed out for them too. I tried messing with the settings to see if I could fix it, but I still couldn't. I'm really confused right now, I remember doing something similar for a case I made for myself.?
I have a sketch on plane XY and I have another plane at an angle, which I would like to work on. How can I create a sketch on the angled plane, using the geometry from the XY sketch and which I can snap to?Â
In the attached part if I change the value of the length parameter from 19" to 20" Work Axis 1 updates to the 19" location, if I change it back from 20" to 19" it goes to the 20" position.
In the images below, the axis should be in the center of that last slot.
I've created a solid in Inventor and used the Section Analysis tool to create several cross sections. I'm trying to find a way to export the geometry of each cross section to a some format so that I could laser cut each cross section.
Is there a tutorial for importing 2D AutoCAD geomtetry and using it as a basis for your 3D sketches? I'm sure in a demo somewhere I saw someone using 2D layouts to quickly start creating 3D geometry from.
To clarify i'm not referring to the add-in in AutoCAD Labs but the actual process to do this using Inventor tools.
Why is it that when I create a dimension across geometry the dimension shows true, yet if I create sketched geometry in the drawing view it does not?
What I need to do is create an arc of swing for a door. So I create a sketched arc and then want to dimension the arc radius of the door, yet the dimension shows not true. How do I make it true? And why can't I snap to model geometry in the drawing view?
You know the square, traingle, circle, and the hexagon shapes that are used on the revision tags? How do I change the size of the geometry to be smaller? If I just change the text size, all that changes is the text, the geometry remains the same. I'm wanting to make them ultra small so that when there are lots of revisions, it doesn't clutter up the drawing too much.
I have looked thru the forum and didn't see this question anywhere. Â Many times I have to make mounting holes on large assemblies that have a lot of holes to project and extrude. Â
Is it possible for the Extrude command to pick all Projected Geometry automatically? Â If it looked only specifically for only projected geometry? Â It would save so much time instead of having to pick every single projected geometry hole to extrude.
I am using Inventor 2013 API for an application that imports Solid bodies and Sketches from Inventor parts.
Observed that when we import sketch entities, the Text object simply returns 4 lines representing its bounding box. What I want to do here, is to get the formated text as a collection of geometric entities. (lines, splines, arcs)
Is there any API available to "explode" text into entities, or may be a cleaner method that simply returns tesselation of formated text?
