AutoCAD LT :: Prevent Saving When Another User Opens Read-only Copy
May 7, 2013
I have one user (user 1) who will work on a drawing and while they have it open, another user (user 2) opens the same file and they are prompted it is in use and they can open a read-only copy. Once user 2 opens the read-only copy, user 1 can no longer save their drawing until user 1 closes the read-only copy.
User 1 gets the following error when trying to save:
"Unable to save to drawing X:folderpathfilename.dwg as it is being accessed by another session. Drawing saved to X:folderpathfilename.tmp"
We have like 4 on site and 3 offsite engineers using the same files. They know that if they are opening a file for messurements and the like they should just open read only so someone else can go in and revise. WIth one user she opens the file as read-only and its still not allowing others to open it normaly. Anyone else can open read-only and a second person can go in open it regular. We have a mix of LT 12 and 13 and i think 1 full version of 12. But we tested with drawings between just two of the LT 2012 computers, and the result is the same.
I have a macro that automatically creates a Detailed view on a sheet. It works on 2 input's:
- mouse click 1 (set's the target to be detailed)
- mouse click 2 (set's the location where the balloon should be)
The code works fine. But sometimes the user will start another command, or restart the same command, while it is still running. This off course gives all kinds of problems.
Is there a possibility in VBA to prevent the user to start another command while this command is running?Or is this problem a part of the clicking itself?
Here is my (it uses a Class Module called: clsGetPoint, see code below) Sub AutoDetailedView() On Error GoTo ErrorManagment '(error handling 2013/02/18) 'step 0 Create a transaction. -> for 1 undo command Dim oTransMgr As TransactionManager Set oTransMgr = ThisApplication.TransactionManager Dim oTrans As Transaction Set oTrans = oTransMgr.StartTransaction(ThisApplication.ActiveDocument, "AutoDetailedView") 'step 1 Select a drawingView 'Set a reference to the drawing document. Dim oDrawDoc As DrawingDocument Set oDrawDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument 'Set a reference to the active sheet. [code].....
If a drawing is opened by another user, I want to retrieve the name of that user. I presume that is in the dwl locking file. I I can't find any info on this topic. How do I read/extract the user name from a dwl file with .NET/c#?
I've some user-defined iProperties in my idw-file. As soon as I set the file to "read-only" (via explorer RMB->properties) these iProperties are not shown on the drawing sheet when i open the drawing. ow to abandon this effect?
We've been having some issues that have only recently cropped up. If I am in a drawing named FP-00.dwg and I am working, saving regularly, etc. everything is fine. If a co-worker opens up the same file, he will sometimes (10%) NOT receive the read-only pop up and he will open the same drawing with full rights. Then, if I go and try to save, I will be alerted that the file is in use, and my file will be switched to read-only. When I have to do a saveas, the file then changes the default name to: FP-00.fdwg (notice the "F" in front of .dwg).
I posted this to the AutoCAD Architecture group, b/c we are currently using Architecture 2k8.
No one has changed out Open/Save options, and we haven't been losing the connection with our server.
I have a problem in accessing the library features while doing cable and harness assembly. Whenever I click on the library option the error pops up by saying that " it has been edited by another user or marked as read only". I am not able to import a cable or wire with some modifications.
I've created a main assembly containing several ipart components. With the following rule I can read the model parameters, but not the user parameters of the iparts:
A = Parameter("Part1:1", "d0")
If I create a component, insert it in the main assembly and make it an ipart afterwards, the user parameters can be read out with ilogic. But if I insert the same ipart again, the user parameters can not be read out anymore. Model parameters are no problem.
Any way to modify a user form parameter's read only status using a rule?
I have a parameter that I want people to be able to edit when another parameter is set to true and to be locked if it's set to false. The only thing that comes to mind is have a rule that will just switch the value back automatically if the user changes it but it would be good if i could control the read only status.
What I have is an alias bitmap (Not anti-alias bitmap) in Phtoshop, when I save it as psd format (photoshop format), the bitmap is preserved. But when I save it as gif or png or whatever, the bitmap become blurs around the edges, making the images be anti-alias bitmap. I don't want that. I want the images to continue to stay alias when saving it into jpeg or png or whatever.
New install of LT2011. It has been working fine for a week. Now upon opening a drawing file, the first time I save the plan it immediately converts to Read Only file, therefore I cannot save my work.I have done one re-install with no fix.
When I go to edit a photo in Photoshop CC from Lightroom 5, it opens Photoshop from my backup hard drive and I get this message: "The application has been moved, and its path has changed. To update the product configuration, click Update." This slows down the process. How can I edit the path so that Photoshop opens from my main hard drive?
I need to copy about 15 user parameters from 1 part to about 300 others. I used the DA to copy the iproperties but the user parameters are also needed.
Have downloaded L/R5 and am attempting to import for the first time. Source is "EOS_DIGIGTAL" SD card from Canon EOS. All pictures are on the card. When selecting "Import", a new window opens which is a "Copy as DNG" which, during reading all tutorials, is never mentioned. I would like to just import directly from the source card to Macintosh HD. Also, "NO PHOTOS" shows as well.
lightroom 3.6 windows 7. sometimes but not always, when I choose edit and lr creates a copy edit tiff, the new copy moves to the end of the filmstrip and sometimes it stays right with the original (which is what I want)
I am using CS3 to make files for a online game. Is there a way in photoshop to make the files read only? So other gamers can not open and edit the file but the game can still read the file?
Over the past week or so we have had a error. When working in a AI file and trying to save as a PDF we get this error: "Cant save the illustrator file. File may be read only, or the file is in use, or you dont have the required permissions. ID=54". We have to go back to file and re-save every time.
I have customized a standard user profile Sam in my win 764 XDP7 interface. (added buttons, etc)
Is it possible to export/save that interface and pull it into the program and use the interface when I "Run As Administrator"? Or do I need to just spend time rebuilding?
As a User, when I work with a web site file, I have to republish locally all pages every time I open the file. It does not remember where I stored my preview. I am hoping that by running as administrator that will no longer be necessary. (My website file built in XWD6 moved to XDP6 and moved to XDP7 ends in .xar not .web)
I created a file for someone using the Photoshop CS6 software, and he has just now informed me that he uses Photoshop Elements 10. The only thing he will need to do with the file, at most, is add layers on top of it. How can I save the file through CS6 for him to open and use in Elements 10?
I have a friend that is having a hard time saving files as .eps in InDesign, Illistrator and PhotoShop when using a Mac. She is able to create the file and save it so she should have full ownership and read/write rights to the file. Yet when she opens the file, edits it and saves it again, she gets a pop-up stating "Cannot save the illustration. You do not have enough access privileges - ID 5000". The user is the owner of the file. How would she not have access privileges? When she saves the file as an .ai, pdf, or jpg, there is no problem. She also has no problem saving the file on a Windows PC.

I am saving a PDF from Illustrator CS4 that contains only 100% black text. My print provider is telling me that the text in the PDF has been converted to 4C, rich black. I have tried all different PDF creation settings (high quality, press quality, PDFX3, default) from Illustrator but nothing works. How can I create a PDF that maintains 100% black and prevents it from converting to process black?
I created a spreadsheet of about 40 rows to be used to create different parts. I then created a part "we'll call it Board_A". I linked to the spreadsheet and used 3 of the fields for my dimensions. Lets say I named the length (which was the extrusion number) as "Len_1". I saved it and all is well!! I then created other parts and used the spreadsheet for the dims. I then went back and opened "Board_A" and saved a copy as "Board_B". I closed Board_A and opened Board_B. I then rt clicked on "Extrusion" so I could change the length from "Len_1" to "Len_1_A" which is another row (field) on that same spreadsheet which is still linked. When I tried I received a message that said I couldn't do that (I forgot the actual message!) I clicked the Parameter icon and the only fields showing on the popup spreadsheet box were the ones I had previously used for those parts that I made from scratch. I thought I figured this out once but if I did I forgot. I deleted the spreadsheet link and then re-added it but nothing I have tried has worked. Is there a way to get these fields to be usable with a Copy of an existing part or do I just have to start from scratch and make the similar part?
