Illustrator :: Error When Saving As PDF - File Read Only (ID 54)
Jul 2, 2012Over the past week or so we have had a error. When working in a AI file and trying to save as a PDF we get this error: "Cant save the illustrator file. File may be read only, or the file is in use, or you dont have the required permissions. ID=54". We have to go back to file and re-save every time.

May 7, 2013I have one user (user 1) who will work on a drawing and while they have it open, another user (user 2) opens the same file and they are prompted it is in use and they can open a read-only copy. Once user 2 opens the read-only copy, user 1 can no longer save their drawing until user 1 closes the read-only copy.
User 1 gets the following error when trying to save:
"Unable to save to drawing X:folderpathfilename.dwg as it is being accessed by another session. Drawing saved to X:folderpathfilename.tmp"
This does not happen everytime either.

Feb 10, 2009I am using CS3 to make files for a online game. Is there a way in photoshop to make the files read only? So other gamers can not open and edit the file but the game can still read the file?

the file exists however the open function still returns nil... the file is not read only, and permission on the file appear to be just fine.What other reasons would there be that cause open function to return nil?This is happening only on one machine. All the others are writing to the file just fine.

I had my automatic save set up for every 10 minutes but files were not being saved regularly. I deleted files from the Temp folder thinking it was full and now there are no .sv$ saving at all. How can I make drawings save automatically every 10 minutes?

Dedicated in-house file server on the LAN.
Save a drawing, and close AutoCAD.
Open drawing on another computer, and it says file is in use, and asks if I would like to open as read-only.
The problem is consistent, and happens even if I wait a few minutes to open the file after closing it on the other computer.

Dec 14, 2012I installed AutoCAD 2013. I have done a few projects on it and everything worked fine. But today after getting a project part way completed I saved it and closed it, then moved on to something else. When I came back to it to work on it some more, it told me that it was in use and that I could only open it as a "Read Only".
It was not open by anything other CAD pragrams or anything. What is the problem here.The only way it seems I can work on it again is to do a reboot. I dont want to do this all the time.
why it is only telling me I can open it as "Read Only" when it is not opened by anything else. But it tells me it is in use by another program.

May 25, 2013Have some photos of a warehouse fire in Plymouth Indiana. Files were saved as .jpg Can't get them to open.
One message is "Pain't cannot read this file. This is not a valid bitmap file or it's format is not currently supported." Couldn’t display DSC-0023.jpg because a suitable graphics importer could not be found.

Will this cause any problem with the file once I place it in the website I'm building? I've never seen this message before on a photo I've edited. The changes I made involved color correction.

Jul 23, 2012I have a couple of SAT files exported by my colleague. He is only familiar with and only works in AutoCAD 2008.
All I'm trying to do is convert them to IGES for our customer, but I can't even open them. I get the message "Unable to Read SAT File" in Inventor. I tried Fusion as well, it just crashes out after working for a few seconds. When I try to open the original dwg in AutoCAD 2013 I get a message that the file is corrupted and to run recovery on it. I tried doing so, but then the dwg comes in with no model geometry.
How to open these files or any other workflow? We're going to have serious issues down the road if we can't move data between AutoCAD and Inventor.

Jan 17, 2013I have an Autocad drawing that I would like to take to a CNC machine to have it physically built out of extruded polystyrene. I do not want my drawing to be used without my permission or modified.
Is there a way to watermark it or to transform it to a read only file allowing the cnc machine to extract its parameters but not allowing any action upon the file (copy,modify et c.) ?
PS: I have started building my own DIY polystyrene cutting tool out of an old soldering pistol, piano wire,vice, clamps... but it will take some time before I finish building it and there is a chance I might mess up the first few shapes; I need the shapes as soon as possible.

Read the properties of these files is by using objects Apprentice Server, which provides Autodesk Inventor View 2012. Connection objects is done through the library RxApprentice.tlb.

Jul 1, 2013we have problem opening read only files with Autocad 2012, 2013 from Sharepoint library. When user opening dwg file directly from Sharepoint library (with Share point webdav, from Explorer for example) to which he have only read only access, Autocad gives error
„Drawing file is not valid“. The same result for UNC path (\intranetprojekceRizeniProjektu64ArchivProjektu102575) or mapped drive.
When he use Autocad open dialog to find the file in Share point library and use „Open Read Only“ from dropdown, file is opened fine.
Also if user have write access rights to library (when I add him rights for writing for this library), autocad works fine.
We need opening files directly in Sharepoint library (not to download them to users computer) cause DWG files have attached another DWG files from library as XREFs.
May be the problem could be caused by DWL files, which cannot be created in read only library, whilst autocad didn’t recognized the library is read only. But we didn’t find how to disable DWL files in autovcad 2012 or higher.

After a bit of a google on various forums I have came across a post which says that it maybe a network issue with the drawing creating DWL files (locked) and then it taking time to update on the network.

I can save the file then open it. But the user wants to open the attachment straight from the email.
I've tried changing the attributes on the folder from read only but this doesn't work, tried another profile, again this doesn't work.
It does seem to only effect .dwg files when opening with AutoCAD LT 2010. If someone sends an xls, .doc, .pdf attachment they all open OK, I'm sure this is an AutoCAD LT 2010 issue. I have downloaded and installed both hotfixes / patches from the autodesk website and reinstalled the software but this hasn't worked either.

Oct 19, 2011I imported a shape file drawn with a utm signature with the dbf and shx files associated with it.The field map looks exactly like it is supposed to but when i dimension different places the dim are in what i think are utm measurements( ie .0069).When i draw a line at say 200 feet the line is astronomical in comparison. I can't seem to figure out where to change the scale.I have never used the auto map before and am using the trial version.
