AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Rule To Read Out User Parameter Of IPart
Nov 1, 2012
I've created a main assembly containing several ipart components. With the following rule I can read the model parameters, but not the user parameters of the iparts:
A = Parameter("Part1:1", "d0")
If I create a component, insert it in the main assembly and make it an ipart afterwards, the user parameters can be read out with ilogic. But if I insert the same ipart again, the user parameters can not be read out anymore. Model parameters are no problem.

Any way to modify a user form parameter's read only status using a rule?
I have a parameter that I want people to be able to edit when another parameter is set to true and to be locked if it's set to false. The only thing that comes to mind is have a rule that will just switch the value back automatically if the user changes it but it would be good if i could control the read only status.

I am trying to make an iPart of a fitting where I can change the "Body type" and it will change all the parameters associated with that body type through iLogic. Really I am just playing around in iLogic to see if this is something worth learning. Back to the point, I would like to change a multi-value user text parameter through the iPart table but I cannot find the paramter in the parameters tab.
Since it is a user parameter I thought it would be in the "Other" folder but it isn't. I do however have the other multi-value user number parameter in that folder, which makes me think that maybe I can't use the paramter in the iParts table?

Currently have an iLogic rule in my drawing template that base on user input brings up the Drawing View dialog box (as though you click on base view). I want to know if there is some coding I can do to control or handle what happens if the user clicks the cancel command inside this dialog box. Possibly show a message box. Or even run another rule after the cancel button has been clicked?

Macro for writing the sheetmetal Extents width and length to the custom properties. I need to get these values into the part parameters so that they can be used in the BOM.
I can get this to work if I manually create the "SM_Length" user parameter, but how do I make the iLogic CREATE the parameters if they do not already exist? I think it would be something added below the "Catch..." just cant seem to figure out what it needs to be.
'look for custom iproperty and try to set it
Try
iProperties.Value("Custom", sExtLength)=Round(SheetMetal.FlatExtentsLength, iRoundValue)
Parameter("SM_Length")=Round(SheetMetal.FlatExtentsLength,4)
Catch
' assume error means not found and create it
customPropertySet.Add(Round(SheetMetal.FlatExtentsLength,iRoundValue), sExtLength)
EndTry

The one below doesn`t work.
Sub Main Dim oApp As Inventor.Application = ThisApplication Dim oAssy As Inventor.AssemblyDocument = oApp.ActiveDocument For Each oSubDoc as Inventor.Document In oAssy.AllReferencedDocuments On Error Resume Next Parameter(oSubDoc, "FH") = 15.26 Next End Sub

I need a way to run a rule which is saved in my top-level assembly using iLogic rule which is saved in a part file in the parent assembly.
I have even tried using an external rule in a txt file, but that gives the error "Component: This function can only be used in an assembly." - which makes no sense to me. I hope I am just missing something simple. I cant believe with all its other strengths, that iLogic would be so limited in that regard. Why is there not simply a snippet under the 'Run Other' that allows you to specify an assembly file and the rule name? (like there is for running a rule in a component from the assembly)

I want to simply set a custom iproperty as the Description in each part file within my assembly. I can do this easily at part level with ilogic but I want to be able to run the rule from the assembly level and all the parts run the rule. I am struggling to find a way to do this.
I think this may be the best method I have found but I think it must be far easier?

I am working for customer with a simple item with his iLogic design. He has created a simple form to modify his iProperties. To modify the current material, a multi-value parameter was created and the following rule as a local rule;
"MultiValue.List("MATLIST") = iProperties.Materials
iProperties.Material = MATLIST"
He is now trying to make this an external rule but gets the following error
Error in rule: Mat2, in document: Mat2.iLogicVb
iProperties.Material: is probably a bad material name.
The more info tab says:
System.ArgumentException: iProperties.Material: is probably a bad material name.

I am trying to publish to the CC a guide rail. The vendor of the rail gives me the option of entering the desired length of the rail. After that he gives me the option to choose between the length that I entered and a shorter and longer standard length witch can be delivered faster.
I want to do the same thing with my published part, but I cannot make a key parameter to change depending on the entered custom parameter. I want the user to make the next steps when inserting from the CC: 1- select the size of the rail; 2-select the type of the rail; 3- enter the desired length of the rail; 4- choose between the desired length and the 2 recommended lengths (I need these 3 lengths to be shown)
Is this possible?

I would like to know if there is a way to have the Schedule as an I-Part parameter of a flange. I'm trying to create a custom flange for use in the content center and would like both size and ID to be picked from a drop down when placed into an assembly.
Since it's a flange not a pipe I can't use the standard tube & pipe authoring method.

When our VAR initally setup our system for us he made it so the material selected in with the sheet metal rule would appear as the stock number in the ipropertys. I then set the sheet metal rule so the sheet metal rule material also had our material stock number for each different thickness. This gave me a value that was automatically loaded for drawings.
Now we have migrated to 2013 and in the migration things got mixed up so this no longer happens. I am assuming that when the SM Rule is set it creates a named parameter somewhere. What that parameter is? I am thinking if I go into the parameters of the template and set stock number = to SM Rule parameter I will regain this functionallity.

when i create an ipart with an custom parameter column, the files are created in the workspace. Is there any way how i can change this location?
Many parts are piling up in the workspace.For example to the library (like "normal iparts" do) or to a folder in the workspace (workspace/ custom_ ipart_ folder)?

I have an IPart with about 100 instances in it that is sheet metal. I created a user parameter for the gauge of the sheet metal relating to the thickness and that works fine in the ipart. My dilema is how to get the gauge to show up in my drawing in the general table. Pretty much I woud like the table to list part number, material and then have a column for the gauge of the steel related to the thickness in the Ipart table. I am using Inventor 2011 if that makes a difference.

I have a sheet metal part that I converted into an iPart and I set up different rows with different sheet metal styles. What I want to do is run an iLogic code to change to a specific row which in turn would change the actual material of that sheet metal part....I've tried the snippet iPart.ChangeRow but cannot get it to run the code. I'm not sure if I'm not doing something right or what...

I want to create a rule that will warn the user when the plate thickness they are using is not standard. I have already created a multivalue parameter for plate thickness, which lists all standard steel plate thickness's and also allows for custom values.
I was hoping I could create a rule that would prompt a dialogue box warning when the user creates a custom value for plate thickness.
I know this can be done, but like I said, Im bloody useless with iLogic and find it hard to come across relevent examples and/or tutorials online.

I'm currently using this rule for easy PDF making
SaveLoc = "C:Temp"FileName = ThisDoc.FileName(False)Revnr = " rev_" & iProperties.Value("Project", "Revision Number")PDFnaam = SaveLoc & FileName & RevnrThisDoc.Document.SaveAs(PDFnaam & (".pdf") , True)MessageBox.Show("PDF is aangemaakt in C:Temp", "Document creation",MessageBoxButtons.OK,MessageBoxIcon.Information)
The problem with this is that i want to save without lineweight? is there anyway to do this with this code?

I have an iPart which includes iLogic Rule. When I change iPart by table, iLogic Rules are not triggered.
In iLogic Utilities, there is a button "Rules Triggered by Events", If I use "Any Model Parameter Change", the update need long time, looks like Inventor is "No Response". I like the way "Material Change", but I need "part Number" change to trigger the rules. How can I do it? I tried other events as After Open, Before Save, etc, they are does not work.

I've caught glimpses of how to do this (For instance, this plugin (Inventor LinkParameters) [URL]...... when trying to actually find information on any documentation of how to get from point A to point B. I can't seem to find anything about ilogic automation / rule creation / ilogic in general, in the object browser at all.
I know code like this exists
Option ExplicitSub RuniLogicRule()Dim iLogicAuto As ObjectSet iLogicAuto = GetiLogicAddin(ThisApplication)If (iLogicAuto Is Nothing) Then Exit SubDim doc As DocumentSet doc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocumentDim ruleName As StringruleName = "Rule0"Dim rule As ObjectSet rule = iLogicAuto.GetRule(doc, "Rule0")If (rule Is Nothing) Then Call MsgBox("No rule named " & ruleName & " was found in the [code].......
(and even fixed the error it gave me due to the original code leaving something out) , but any info on the GetRule method is.
