I am trying to xref a file in and when I select open through _XATTACH nothing happens. No subsequent dialog box opens up asking me to choose location, rotation, attach/bind, etc. The command just dies and I am back in my dwg.
I just tried to do an xref and the command stops everything. I get no reaction from autocad. What is wrong?
here is an update: The Xref Palette is docked to my left side and when I hover to get it to flip out I click the DWG button in the left hand upper corner. Well nothing happens from there. Now, when I type -xref the command works at the command line. How do I get the palette to work again?
I've finished drawing my ground floor and now I need to draw my second floor. I read in a tutorial that the best way to do this is using the Xref command to know where is the walls, bathrooms and etc.
But I didn't get it at all. I need to draw my second floor in the same drawing. So what's the easiest way to do that?
After that I need to have a drawing with my second floor walls in dashed thin lines over my first floor. How can it be done?
While working in my topo drawing I used the "reverse" command to flip all my linetypes (water, over head wire, gas) to show correctly. My topo is x referenced into my utility drawing and my x reference lines will not flip. i have reloaded, i have closed and re opened, i have regenerated. No luck...
i type in xr and the box shows up but when i go to attach a dwg or image the box usually shows up so i can browse through and find the dwg i want to xref but the box doesn't show up all it says at the bottom in the command line is ATTACH
If i use the command classicxref then everything is fine i can attach anything i want. i checked the filedia and it is set to (1)
xref fade control not working? In model space I have xref'd a dwg (probably 2010 format) and it positions correct and displays in the normal default faded mode. No matter where I have the slider in display options, the xref fade does not change. Even changing the system variable through the command line is ineffective.
I'm running AutoCAD 2013 with Service Pack 1.1. installed.
I have loaded an xref in to my working file. I temporarily unloaded the xref so that it would not be in the way as I was editing my drawing. Even though the xref is unloaded and I can not see it on screen it still highlights and becomes visible as if I picked it with my fence while I am trying to edit other entities to my drawing.
here is the question, basicly, i have a folder named "A", and this folder include 5 DWGs, named 1,2,3,4,5. "1" is the main DWG, so, 2,3,4,5 is attached or overlayed to main file. First step im copying this folder from server, and im pasting to my desktop.Im doing some modifications on xref files, and im uploading "A" folder to my friend's partage from local company server. its allright till here..
my collegue is copying this same folder "A" and opening main file, and main file reading another "3" file from his desktop... this is the problem. file names are same, and it has to be this way. i want to make the main file read from its own folder. we are using 2008, 2012.
I am trying to bind an Xref into my working drawing. Whenever I try to perform this command, an error message appears that says "Some objects in the specified Xref(s) failed to bind." No list of objects has been provided. I have tried exploding, purging and auditing both the Xref and the working drawing to make sure there are no extranneous objects in the files, but the message keeps appearing.
I am trying to insert OS Tiles into a drawing using the insert x-ref command. I have managed to insert 192 tiles but still need to add 29 more tiles to complete. When I try to insert another x reference AutoCAD just goes into a continual loop. Have to force AutoCAD to crash after ten minutes.

My company just switched over to AutoCAD 2014 and for some reason the PUBLISH command is not working, or following through with the printing once we complete the required steps to plot.
We are able to select the drawings to be plotted (8"x11" sheets), then successfully bring in our page setup that we created with one of the drawings to be plotted (which we use the same template with the same limits on ALL of our 'drawing templates' we design with.
After we hit the PUBLISH button at the bottom it goes into the background and just stays there with no errors or anything After a little while we end up just having to cancel and plot individually.
We used TrueView to BatchPlot which is identical to the batchplot(publishing) in ACAD 2014 WITH NO ISSUES!

I am using AutoCad Mechanical 2013. I am trying to section in 3D but, when I press the Section Plane tool, it doesn't respond. See the picture below. At the bottom of drawing area its says "Command: _sectionplane Unknown command "SECTIONPLANE"."
I have been using the MVSetup command to adjust a view port orientation however when I do this the Pickfirst command is changed to 0 - it was only by chance I discovered this and was able to change it back. Also, is there a command to reset all changes made through MVSetup in a viewport ?
I am following the U-Tube exercise called "Emergency Light (Cabinet) volume 1". I am at time stamp 1 hour 26 minutes, exactly.
In the video they use a Loft command in order to cut a shape out of two sketches numbered 10 & 11. I have been copying exactly and am having difficulty at this stage of the model.
Is there any reason why I am managing to use the Loft command earlier perfectly but not at this point.
I'm working with AutoCAD 2012 and I was surprised to find out that after typing: 'CAL "Expression" came up; and from all appearances, you'd think Autocad was awaiting (if not expecting) my input. However, none appeared on screen as I typed.
My lot top mouse is not working no more with the zoom in and out command. I dont have and external mouse other than the one is install from factory on my lot top comp. It was working perfect, but i think i click something by mistake. I only learn enough to draw in cad but when it comes up to problems like this i do not know what to do. I am currently using AutoCAD 2012 and having problems with the STRETCH command. When I select 3 lines, then deselect 1 of them lines and then select the STRETCH command it does not stretch the selected lines.
Now this is the way I have done in it in previous versions and it has worked. (AutoCAD 2010). Our Company has recently moved to 2012.Is this a function that has been removed with this version or am I doing something wrong?
I am using AutoCAD 2013 - Educational Version, and I want to convert my linework into a column grid. For some reason the COLUMNGRIDADD command is not being recognized by the program. When I type it in the command line, it just says Unknown Command.
Additionally, my Build Panel is missing from the ribbon, which is the other source for the column grid tools. I tried to reload or change the CUI, but so far this has not been successful.
