Do we have a size limit of the models using replace model reference?
Just done a little testing with some iam's
Anything larger that 500 parts and the drawing does nothing, no replace..
how to replace a model reference in and Inventor 11 .idw file. - It seems this is something easy to do in Inventor 12 but I don't see how to do it in 11..

I've been struggling to perform replace model reference as there is no direct command given for it.
I have been using Inventor 2012 and have been wanting to replace model references in drawings (.idw) with other parts. Inventor will let me select the Replace Model Feature, select the model to be replaced, and find the model I want to replace it with. It will even have the prompt appear asking if I want to continue with the replacement. The issue is that when I hit yes, nothing gets replaced.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOne of the new features in 2013 is the ability to copy a view that is on the idw. Is there a way to copy/paste a view, then replace the reference of ONLY the part in the view that was just copied?
What I have is two parts. For simplicity, just imagine both as a square plate. One has a hole in it, one doesnt. I have already dimensioned the square plate. Now I copy the view and paste it back on the sheet. I want to replace the reference of the one I just copied and change the reference to the part with the hole. If I use replace model reference command, it will replace both references, which is what I dont want.
Just a wish I guess, but the only way I can do this now it to place the second part on the sheet and start dimensioning it. Seems like a waste when we almost have the tools to quickly complete this.
Two different problems (questions). These are IV2012 files but the problems are the same in 2013.
Open the two attached ipt's. Launch the Measure Distance tool and measure between the blue an red face on the DimTest. It should read 1 inch.
Change to DimTest Derive using the tabs on the status line. Measure still gives 1 in. Change precision to All Decimals. The mouse pointer changes to calipers and the distance now measure 1.004 (which is correct)
Switch back to DimTest again using the tabs.
Measure again and notice the mouse pointer still shows the calipers which imply that it is going to return all decimals but the dimension given is still just 1 inch. Either the mouse pointer should change back or all decimals should stick.
OpenDimTest.dwg. Manage> Modify> Replace Model Reference and pick DimTestDerive.
ALL dims disappear and the origin indicator goes sick.

The reason I want to do this is because I have various programs to automate drawings, but I have to manually edit the code if i want to switch between using the code on assembly drawings and part drawings.
If i can get the model reference, I can then use a bit of extra programming to extract the extension. (i.e. .ipt or .iam)

I did some digging and found the option to replace a model reference in an entire drawing, but I'm looking to change the reference in just a view. Consider the picture I have attached. I'm depicting top down views of these layers. Each layer requires changing the view identifier each time I drop a view. This would be considerably less time consuming if I could just copy/paste the view and change which part file it was pointing to.

There appears to be a limit to the quantity of items that can be selected if trying to change a property using a pulldown menu. For example, if I select all items in a drawing (say 25,000 items, didn't test the limit), using (CTRL+A) or with mouse, and all items are not the same color, the OBJECT COLOR menu should be blank (have not value) because there is not only one color for the objects. Same would be true of the Layer menu if all objects are not on the same layer. This does not happen, the current Color or Layer are shown in the menu's. WIth the objects selected, changing the color (say from red to green) has no effect. Same is true if trying to assign all selected items to a specific layer. WIth less items selected (didn't test the limit), things work as expected.
I tried to see if the problem was with the menu, so I used the command line commands. Change, Property, Color, with all items selected works fine. Is there a bug with 2011 LT re this? I didn't have this issue using ACAD LT 2008 previously.
Autodesk Inventor Professional 2011 will crash when we try open a 3D model (Inventor Component) as a Baseline View for a new "Drawing" file.
To replicate the error, we draw a simple Circle and extrude it so it is then a 3D Model. We then create a new "Drawing" file, click the Baseline View button at the top left, and then select the 3D Model Inventor file (the extruded circle). The program crashes and we get the following error from Autodesk Software, NOT Windows.

This is for our college... students need to perform this action for their exam. We have had success using the same software and OS configuration, along with the same steps listed above, on different machines on campus. Not sure what is causing the error on these machines.

The problem is, when start a new project AutoCAD 2012 library is automatically referenced. Even if I try to remove it, AutoCAD does nor allow it saying that it is in use. I can't even find AutoCAD 2011 library in the list of references. And I want to reference 2011 library only.
I need to convert a model parameter to a reference parameter thru the API.

I have too many paper sizes in PageSetup. This makes choosing the proper page size too lengthy and time consuming.
I only use two paper sizes namely A4 and A3 so I don't need to have English paper size like 11x14 in, Hagaki, Index Card and 30 other pagesetup.
How can I delete or get rid of unnecessary paper sizes?
I have created an item made up of lines, circles and arcs. One side line distance will control all other sides, circles and arcs. I applied geometric constraints and then Dimensional constraints. D1 is the distance that will control all other objects. I have it working so that when I change D1, the sides adjust accordingly and the arcs and circles keep their geometry.
I was wondering if there is a way to add a range of distances for D1 so that if someone goes below the minimum value, nothing happens and if you go above the maximum value, nothing happens? I know if you make a block, you can make a list of distances for D1 to move. Is there a way to do this in the design drawing? Although, I don't just want a set range, I would like any distance between, say, 8 - 12 inches.
I tried to set some parameters in the Parameters Manager with no luck. Maybe there is an expression to use? Where would you find this expression if there is one?
When I zoom in or zoom out the model, normally the dimension will follow the model too.But now in Autocad 2013, even the model size change, the dimension still remain unchange. why? Is there any setting I miss out? URL....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been a long-time VideoStudio user and recently installed the trial of X5 (my last purchased version was X2, but, it's time for an upgrade ). VS X5 is installed on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit PC. If I capture to an internal NTFS drive, the tapes capture as a single ~19 GB AVI file; however, if I capture to my Linux NAS server with ReiserFS file system, VS breaks the captured files into 4GB chunks and I end up with five files per tape. There is no 4GB file limit on ResierFS. I have copied several 25+ GB blue-ray files to the NAS with no problem. ReiserFS has an 8TB file size limit. Captured through another video editing program, I do not have this problem. It appears that VS X5 assumes a 4GB limit on network devices (or, at least, on my Linux - ReiserFS NAS).

I got two error messages:
"The miminum size be reducing the bit rates still cannot fit once disc."
"Convert step got some problems."
What are the minimum requirements for fitting a video file to a DVD?
I have a relatively flat shape with many curves on the edges. I am trying to intersect a plane with all the curved edges and do a Boolean intersection. It worked with a less complex shape but this one has over 19000 objects. Any size limit on Boolean operations?

Any other filter or tool that I need works just fine on these size files. Neither tweaking CS3 preferences (as has been discussed rather thoroughly on this forum) nor toggling the 3 GB switch under XP (my PC has 4 GB ram and >200 GB scratch) helped. Given optimal settings, what are the upper dimensions that I might reasonably expect to photomerge, either under XP or Vista 64? If its not unheard of to photomerge and auto align huge files, Id upgrade my system. Otherwise, Ill plan the upgrade and wait for CS4.

I have two tiff files:
Tiff 1: 283MB, full resolution ( 2336 x 3504 )
Tiff 2: 233MB, full resolution ( 2336 x 3504 )
Export witht: 574 x 1000 image width
JPG 1: 168kb
JPG 2: 194kb
Both jpegs have 600px x 887px (fram with mogrify plugin#) and 100%jpg quality.
Whe I set a limit to file size of 154kb, I receive following:
JPG 1: 102kb
JPG 2: with error ( couldn't create jpg which fit's the file size limit of 154kb )
If I export the second tiff manually with 90% jpg quality and no filesize, I get:
JPG 1: 114kb
JPG 2: 135kb
So it seems that the "limit file size" isn't really working.Also it seems that Valus between 92 and 100 ends in: same as 100.
I created the following user parameters:
-Thickness
-Width
-Length
-Dia
I then created a Custom iProperty which consisted of the following "formula": Finished Material Size = <Thickness> x <Width> x <Length> Lg.
eg. of Finished Material Result : Finished Material Size = 6 x 25 x 300 Lg.
The problem comes up when dealing with diametrical components as the above formula will only populate for square or rectangular parts. Which would work if I could use iLogic code to populate the Finished Material Size iProperty. I have tried but failed.
First I created another user parameter called "Geometry Type" which has a drop down selection of either "DIA" or "SQUARE, RECTANGULAR".I then created the following iLogic code to set 0 as the value for the "unused" size parameters

I have been designing for a lot of mobile sites these days, in particular: iphone retina display (640w). Most of the time these designs can be long in the tooth with the height of these documents - exceeding 8000 pixels at times. I noticed that 8000 pixels is the threshold limit for the "save for web" export. Anything greater than 8000 pixels will be downgraded in quality on retina devices by scaling the image. The jpg will still be the correct height and width, but when viewed on an iphone, you can easily see the degradation. Images and text are blurry.This is no bueno when trying to show a client what their site will look like on an iphone.
A preference to be changed? Am I missing something to get the full quality of my design comp in order to preserve retina display quality?
I take a large number of event images and the usual client request for images being sent to the press is image size rather than resolution, dimensions or other requirements.
Clearly in LR3 if the client has requested 3MB jpg the easy option is to after processing take my Canon 5d mkii RAW file and just hit export to max 3MB jpg.
My question is is it better - ie image quality better - to export by resizing longest edge to approx 3000 px and exporting to jpg which results in a similar file size, though different pixel dimensions? Or are they effectively the same?
I have a 180GB SSD, which I specifically bought, to make Lightroom (4.4) faster and to store 1:1 previews. Initially, I set up Lightroom catalog (containing 18221 images) to never delete 1:1 previews and stored the previews in a high quality mode. This quickly fill up my SSD. I would like to set it up to store as many previews as it can while leaving atleast, say 20GB, free on SSD. The alternative, which is to discard 1:1 previews after 30 days or so, is not really acceptable to me.
