AutoCAD Inventor :: Copy View / Replace Model Reference

Jun 12, 2012

One of the new features in 2013 is the ability to copy a view that is on the idw.  Is there a way to copy/paste a view, then replace the reference of ONLY the part in the view that was just copied?

What I have is two parts. For simplicity, just imagine both as a square plate.  One has a hole in it, one doesnt.  I have already dimensioned the square plate. Now I copy the view and paste it back on the sheet.  I want to replace the reference of the one I just copied and change the reference to the part with the hole.  If I use replace model reference command, it will replace both references, which is what I dont want.

Just a wish I guess, but the only way I can do this now it to place the second part on the sheet and start dimensioning it.  Seems like a waste when we almost have the tools to quickly complete this.

It will even have the prompt appear asking if I want to continue with the replacement. The issue is that when I hit yes, nothing gets replaced.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Measuring Between Tabbed Parts And Lost Dimensions With Replace Model Reference

Aug 27, 2012

Two different problems (questions). These are IV2012 files but the problems are the same in 2013.

Open the two attached ipt's. Launch the Measure Distance tool and measure between the blue an red face on the DimTest. It should read 1 inch.

Change to DimTest Derive using the tabs on the status line. Measure still gives 1 in. Change precision to All Decimals. The mouse pointer changes to calipers and the distance now measure 1.004 (which is correct)

Switch back to DimTest again using the tabs.

Measure again and notice the mouse pointer still shows the calipers which imply that it is going to return all decimals but the dimension given is still just 1 inch. Either the mouse pointer should change back or all decimals should stick.

OpenDimTest.dwg. Manage> Modify> Replace Model Reference and pick DimTestDerive.

ALL dims disappear and the origin indicator goes sick.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Save Copy And Replace With ILogic

Dec 18, 2013

I have an assembly that I am working on that will be used as a configurator, driven by I-logic. Everything is work fine but there is one part off the assembly that will be custom to each new assembly.  Is there a way to use I logic  to open the ipt file save it as copy with different name and replace the original in the assembly. I know this can be done manual through the productivity tab within the assembly environment, but I am trying to automate the process so the end user will just have to follow prompts that will be given by i-logic.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - Get Model Reference

Mar 8, 2013

I was wondering if there was a command that will get the file name of the model referenced in a drawing?

The reason I want to do this is because I have various programs to automate drawings, but I have to manually edit the code if i want to switch between using the code on assembly drawings and part drawings.

If i can get the model reference, I can then use a bit of extra programming to extract the extension. (i.e. .ipt or .iam)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change Model Reference In Drawing

Dec 26, 2013

I did some digging and found the option to replace a model reference in an entire drawing, but I'm looking to change the reference in just a view. Consider the picture I have attached. I'm depicting top down views of these layers. Each layer requires changing the view identifier each time I drop a view. This would be considerably less time consuming if I could just copy/paste the view and change which part file it was pointing to.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Reference A Sketch Within Drawing View

Jan 8, 2013

Using Inv 2013 and VB 2010.  I am trying to reference a sketch within a drawing view, but I am having a hard time figuring out which view number and sketch number to use.  I thought I had it figured out, but apparently I was wrong.

For example, see the 2 attached pics, Drawing A and Drawing B.  For Drawing A I had the sketch reference set as

Dim oSheet1_View As DrawingView = oDrawDoc.Sheets(1).DrawingViews(3) Dim oSketch As DrawingSketch oSketch = oSheet1_View.Sketches.Item(1)

Drawing View 3, as it was the 3rd Drawing View in the list, and Sketch #1 within that Drawing View.  I thought this was how it worked, because it worked with my code and it hid the sketch.  However, moving on to Drawing B, I used the same code, and it does not reference that sketch at all.  It did nothing to it.  Even though the Flange_Holes sketch is in the same position.  3rd View down the list, 1st sketch.

So how does Inventor reference these views and sketches?  Is it in order of creation?  Is there a way to reference it by the what the sketch is named instead of trying to decipher the number it's assigned?  I have a lot of drawings already made, and I'm not positive the views were taken and created in the same exact order each time.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sketch Within Drawing View Loses Dimension Reference?

Jan 14, 2013

I have a VB program that auto updates the size of a door and frame assembly, and in turn, updates the shop drawings to reflect this change.  I have a view on my shop drawing that I have drawn a sketch in.  I start the sketch, add my dimensions, and I use 'Project Geometry' to project the edges of the actual part around the sketch to constrain my sketch and keep it in place.  The problem is, as the program runs, and the door/frame changes height, the sketch loses it's dimensional references to the projected geometry.  When I go back and reopen the drawing after running the program, all the dimensions that went to the projected geometry are gone.

Is there another way to anchor a sketch to a drawing view part instead of dimensioning to projected geometries?  This doesn't seem to be working, and I've tried it every which way I can think of.  Oddly enough, I have another sketch in a different view that is set up the same way, and it never misses a beat.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using A Macro To Enable Copy Model IProperty Setting

Dec 3, 2013

We have recently found the feature of copying the model iProperties to the drawing would be beneficial to searching for files in our ERP database. I am looking for a way to turn on the ability to copy model iProperties and select which properties to copy with a macro. There are several articles showing how to enable the feature and several ways to macro the same process. I have not been able to find a way to turn it on with a macro.

We plan to adjust our templates to enable the feature on all new drawings and add additional custom iProperties to the models that were previously only used in the drawings. I have wrote a macro to add iProperties to existing models that didn't have them when they were created. Now I am looking for a way to enable everything in the drawing. I see a great benefit to clicking a single button to enable the copy model iProperties feature and select several iProperties that will be copied without having to do it manually for every old drawing.

Is there a way to access the check box to enable this and to select properties within the API? If not, would creating a macro to do the copy from the model to the drawing be the best way to create that functionality in an older drawing or not? We have a little program that will give programmatic control over the mouse but creating code to access the feature that way would be more hassle than teaching our users to manually check the boxes.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IDW View Skews When Model Changes

Jan 7, 2013

IDW views:

Regarding a view created from a part that is not on an orthographic plane in the model:

After placing a standard idw view from a model that's on a weird angle to the construction plane, I have to "rotate" it, and then create another projected view from that view, and then rotate the new view, and create a projected view from that 2nd view, and then rotate that 3rd view, in order to get an orthographic view into the drawing.

BUT, when the model changes, the main view skews, and is therefore not orthographic any longer.

When that happens, the program forces me to start from scratch, and create a new main view, and then basically re-draw the entire idw sheet. This is a total time waster, and costs $$$.

Is there any known way to make the original view return a true orthographic view?

Please note that once the view has dependent views, the 'rotate view' command is disabled.

While model view is among the things that can be selected for use in the code, so far as I can tell, I can not find a function that will allow me to set a view true so that it activates the view and my sketches turn off.
