I have an assembly that uses reference parts. I do not want them in the BOM, but they are used in other drawings in the BOM. When I make them reference, the iso drawing view boundaries are not correct. Can I change the size? Crop will only decrease the size not increase?

All of the patterned parts in my assembly show up as reference parts in the BOM I have I have opened the base part for the pattern and made sure its BOM is set to normal. When I change the BOM setting in the assembly it automatically changes to reference.

Been working over an idw MANY times due to project lag.Today I opened it up and tried adding balloons to an already ballooned assembly.
The parts list has not changed, and is "structured".But, if I try adding balloons, they tag each part, not the entire assembly.
Also, I verified this by trying to add another parts list, which defaults to "parts only".
I can't show my data set, b/c it's HUGE, plus it's proprietary.

I am having trouble with getting the reference parts of my assemblies to show on the IDW drawings. That is, most of them show, but some items disappear.
On the attached picture you can see what i mean... its of a circular structure with a door frame mounted. One is put in as normal assembly, one is put in as reference part.
The circular structure shows, but the door is missing (in some views). When I do a sectional view of the view where it is missing it appears.
I had some parts that in BOM were checked as "referenced". Then at some point I changed them to "normal".
In the drawing environment they still act like reference parts even though I changed them to "normal" before created the view.
They are still see thru when I go Drawings View/Model State/Reference data/As parts. They act like they are reference parts but they are not anymore. How to make then really "normal"?
I am doing a .idw drawing of an assembly that I have several parts that I do not want to appear in the BOM parts list. I have therefore set these parts as Reference parts however this has caused them to appear as "hidden type" lines in the drawing and are even visible through other parts.
Is there any way to make these parts appear in the drawing "as normal" and not be listed in the parts list?
In a drawing Is there anyway to section (and show the hatch pattern) on reference components?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find a simple way to center part(s) to some reference within an assembly such that if any part sizes are changed, then the assembly will stay symmetrical when updated. I would imagine that this is simply possible without adding any constraint containing a numeric value.
See attached part and assembly files showing a 4 piece frame with the angles unconstrained NE to SW. All i want to do is maintain symmetry of the frame if any parts sizes (cross-sectional or length) are changed. I've tried to add a centered plane to the angle and aligning that with a sketch point made in the assembly but i can't select any sketch features when i try to apply an assembly constraint.
When a drawing view is made within Inventor from a presentation file (.ipn) some of the parts sometimes donot appear as properly visible.
I have attached some screen shots which might lead to some clues.
I made a flanged connection using I logic. Very simple Tube + Flange + Gasket + Blind flange + Bolting.Then I tried to write some ilogic rule to have Blind flange on / off when needed, hence the Gasket & Bolting also need to be off. Like in these images:

How can you force the geometry of reference parts to print behind to print behind your visible parts. I have my reference parts print out on a light gray layer to be shown indistinct on a drawings, but it prints over my object lines in effect hiding them. This is even true if a reference part is hidden. Then hidden line will print over the object lines as well.

I need to assign the dimension in my screenshot to a parameter so I can use it to drive another assembly. However, I can't find any way to capture it in a usable manner.
In the screenshot I have an associative part inserted that contains only a sketch with the projected line and point that I wish to measure between, but the geometry in the sketch does not update when the model geometry changes. This seems to be normal behavior?
I have assemblies that are comprised of reference parts - the assembly is a purchased part such as an air cylinder. I have them as reference only in the assembly (ie right click on the parts in the model tree->BOM Reference->Reference). I do it this way so I can adjust the air cylinder how I need it, but still only asign one part number to the whole assembly - as an example we'll say "cylinderX" is the part number, and filename is "cylinderX.iam"
The problem arises when I put cylinderX.iam into other assemblies and try and make drawings of those assemblies. Even though cylinderX.iam is not a reference part (but all it's sub components are), it shows up in an IDW just like reference parts. I am able to make it show up how I want by editing the view properties (Edit View->Model State Tab->Reference Data Line Style "as parts"), but I still cannot balloon cylinderX.iam. It shows up in the parts list, but I cannot attach a balloon to it.

I there a way of finding each Bom structured part that is set to reference in an assembly and setting the view of that component to in-visible.
Also needs to iterate into all set View reps that where created and set all views to not show the referenced parts as well.
Two different problems (questions). These are IV2012 files but the problems are the same in 2013.
Open the two attached ipt's. Launch the Measure Distance tool and measure between the blue an red face on the DimTest. It should read 1 inch.
Change to DimTest Derive using the tabs on the status line. Measure still gives 1 in. Change precision to All Decimals. The mouse pointer changes to calipers and the distance now measure 1.004 (which is correct)
Switch back to DimTest again using the tabs.
Measure again and notice the mouse pointer still shows the calipers which imply that it is going to return all decimals but the dimension given is still just 1 inch. Either the mouse pointer should change back or all decimals should stick.
OpenDimTest.dwg. Manage> Modify> Replace Model Reference and pick DimTestDerive.
ALL dims disappear and the origin indicator goes sick.
Any intelligent way of referencing the sheet with the parent view? E.g. i put a detail or section view on Sheet 2 from a parent view on Sheet 1 and want to reference from what sheet the view is taken from.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing Inv 2013 and VB 2010. I am trying to reference a sketch within a drawing view, but I am having a hard time figuring out which view number and sketch number to use. I thought I had it figured out, but apparently I was wrong.
For example, see the 2 attached pics, Drawing A and Drawing B. For Drawing A I had the sketch reference set as

Drawing View 3, as it was the 3rd Drawing View in the list, and Sketch #1 within that Drawing View. I thought this was how it worked, because it worked with my code and it hid the sketch. However, moving on to Drawing B, I used the same code, and it does not reference that sketch at all. It did nothing to it. Even though the Flange_Holes sketch is in the same position. 3rd View down the list, 1st sketch.
So how does Inventor reference these views and sketches? Is it in order of creation? Is there a way to reference it by the what the sketch is named instead of trying to decipher the number it's assigned? I have a lot of drawings already made, and I'm not positive the views were taken and created in the same exact order each time.
I created view representations in my assembly, for example a column with k-polates and base plates, the column is a FG part, so now i create drawings and place views on that drawing, what i am askign for is I want to place the name of the view representation in my view label as a paramater so in the event i change my view names in my model they update in my drawing, this is important because i can create a cross referance to my 3D DWXF file views.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOne of the new features in 2013 is the ability to copy a view that is on the idw. Is there a way to copy/paste a view, then replace the reference of ONLY the part in the view that was just copied?
What I have is two parts. For simplicity, just imagine both as a square plate. One has a hole in it, one doesnt. I have already dimensioned the square plate. Now I copy the view and paste it back on the sheet. I want to replace the reference of the one I just copied and change the reference to the part with the hole. If I use replace model reference command, it will replace both references, which is what I dont want.
Just a wish I guess, but the only way I can do this now it to place the second part on the sheet and start dimensioning it. Seems like a waste when we almost have the tools to quickly complete this.
I have a VB program that auto updates the size of a door and frame assembly, and in turn, updates the shop drawings to reflect this change. I have a view on my shop drawing that I have drawn a sketch in. I start the sketch, add my dimensions, and I use 'Project Geometry' to project the edges of the actual part around the sketch to constrain my sketch and keep it in place. The problem is, as the program runs, and the door/frame changes height, the sketch loses it's dimensional references to the projected geometry. When I go back and reopen the drawing after running the program, all the dimensions that went to the projected geometry are gone.
Is there another way to anchor a sketch to a drawing view part instead of dimensioning to projected geometries? This doesn't seem to be working, and I've tried it every which way I can think of. Oddly enough, I have another sketch in a different view that is set up the same way, and it never misses a beat.
Is there a way to incude the sheet number that a drawing view has been moved to? I have an elevation tag that shows the view identifier, I am looking to have the sheet number referenced where I show "Field Text-Manual" in the attachments below. I am using inventor 2014.

I have the manual steps on how to hide them but when I try to code it using the said step, the parts on the model file were hidden not in the view.
I use oView.ReferenceDocumentDescriptor.ReferenceDocument in traversing the parts but this refers to the model file.

I know this wasn't possible in the past (and probably still isn't now) but does any trick or something to only get the qty/parts used in a certain design view rep.
We are starting to do work orders (routings) with parts lists for ONLY whats used in that step in the process. Having to manually count screws,etc.. seems silly now.
Design view reps works excellent for showing the assembly process of a product but the parts list (even filtered to that design view rep) shows the total quantity of each component..not just the count in that design view rep.
Any possibility of doing this with ilogic or something?

in dwg's made from an assembly i someties see that the view does not include all parts. To add to the mystery, a projected view made from the base view that lacked the component(s) view can still include the part. The missing parts are not reference parts, and can sometimes be parts of a subassembly.
The attached pdf shows an example:
- view B and C show a horizontal ground plate not visible in the base view
- the projected view shows components visible in the area of detail D, which are not shown in the base view
- near section A-A there is a component missing of which a second item is shown on the left side of the base view.
Switching the hidden lines on shows the missing components, but these should not be hidden at all. No settings are altered for the views to include/exclude components. No parts are set to reference. And no design representations are used.
Whe i bin the views and start over again, the same thing happens to the same components. However, if i bin the whole DWG file and start over, the parts are present...

I often do section views in my 3D model (not drawing) to visually check interference, etc. I noticed today that some parts are excluded from this and do not get sectioned. I'm sure it's an easy fix but a search turned up nothing. How do I include/exclude specific parts from this view?

I am not sure why, but i can't hide few parts in my drawing. I have hidden few parts and saved the view rep. I have called that particular view rep and still I am seeing it the drawing. I am unable to hide it. This is a multi body solid part file. I use INV2012. Win 7
