AutoCAD Inventor :: Projected Geometry Does Not Update Upon Change

Jun 3, 2012

I am struggling with projected geometry that is for some reason not updating in sketch when I change sorce element.

I have sketch in ipt file A.ipt

A.ipt is placed in A1.iam.

in A1.iam I create or place B.ipt

in B.ipt I create sketch and project some elements of A.ipt sketch to it.

After any change i sketch in A.ipt file I and up with elements projected to sketch in B.ipt not muchning elements they ware projected from.

I tried I think everything, adaptivity, creating additional points i A1.iam (they update properly but still projection is not updating).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Extrude All Projected Geometry Automatically?

Feb 7, 2013

I have looked thru the forum and didn't see this question anywhere.  Many times I have to make mounting holes on large assemblies that have a lot of holes to project and extrude.

Is it possible for the Extrude command to pick all Projected Geometry automatically?  If it looked only specifically for only projected geometry?  It would save so much time instead of having to pick every single projected geometry hole to extrude.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Projected Sketch Geometry Not Updating?

Jan 7, 2013

We just upgraded from 2011 to 2013 and we are having SERIOUS problems with our projected sketch geometry in parts not updating. We have only done this about 1.1 million times over the past four years and now every one of our skeleton models we touch is failing to update and causing a whole mess of delays.

I looked through the Application options for sketching and didn't see anything.

I have noticed it happening alot when I project a line of another sketch that makes a single point in my new sketch. once the original skecth is changed the second one doesnt update sometimes. It doesnt do this 100 percent of the time just when I need to get stuff done.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Projected Geometry In Sketch In IDW - Related To Breaks In View

Apr 12, 2012

I'm using Inventor 2012, and experiencing some trouble with certain types of projected geometry that I'm using in a sketch associated with a view in an .IDW file - but only when the view involves a break (or breaks).

I'm generating section views to show the layout of hole details at various axial locations along the part. When placing a section line, I can't "pick up" any appropriate locating geometry from the view. So, after creating the view (using just a vertical section line), I edit the sketch that defines the section line. Project some geometry (the edges of the holes, in the attached example), draw some additional geometry constrained to that, then constrain the section line to that. That works fine; if I move the view around, the section lines stay attached to it. This is what is shown in the attached "before break" picture.

When I apply a break to the drawing, though, the section lines don't follow the changing view. They stay right there, as if the view had not been broken at all. This is what's shown in the attached "after break" picture. Move the view around, and they track with it - but always staying the same "real" distance apart from each other. It is as if that projected geometry were completely ignoring the break.

I observe something similar if I start with an IDW view with one or more breaks, then create a sketch associated with the view. If I project geometry, some of it projects where it should, but other geometry projects elsewhere on the page - as if no breaks were present in the view.

The part I've shown here is something I put together as a simplified example of what I'm observing. The part I'm actually trying to detail is more complicated (many more details), and much longer (so breaks are a requirement to put it on paper).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Projected Drawing View Doesn't Show / Design View Rep Don't Update

After upgrading to Inventor 2014 we notice that the graphics do not work properly, and that the overall performance in drawings and modelling bad compared to 2013. Then we installed SP1 and now drawing views are disappearing, however when we select "shaded" view the view reappears and works perfectly..

Any workaround regarding disappearing views?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change The Size Of Revision Tag's Geometry?

Jul 29, 2008

You know the square, traingle, circle, and the hexagon shapes that are used on the revision tags? How do I change the size of the geometry to be smaller? If I just change the text size, all that changes is the text, the geometry remains the same. I'm wanting to make them ultra small so that when there are lots of revisions, it doesn't clutter up the drawing too much.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Fundamental Change Of Geometry Near The End Of Project?

Nov 27, 2012

I am designing a vacuum part in Autodesk Inventor, which is essentially a long cuboid shape with various valves and spaces for windows along it's length (see attached pic). Upon finishing the design of this part, a few details need to be changed - one being the fundamental shape of the object. It now needs to be a larger square section attached to a long cuboid section (as I found out the valves on the right hand side of the drawing are around double the size they are in this drawing). Rather than restart the project from scratch, I would like to only modify one of the ends to be extruded out into a square shape, or something like that. My first idea was to use the split command in order to split the faces into what I did and didn't want to change, but upon starting this, I don't think this is the best way.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Any Feature Is Not Recognized As Part Geometry Change Because rule Isn't Triggered

Dec 6, 2013

In our drawing file we expose the mass of the part. So I have set the 'Update physical properties on save' in the 'Application Options'. This works fine when you save your file before switching to the drawing file. If you forget to save and go to the drawing file the mass is showed as: N/A.

Therefore I have created a rule which updates the mass of the part. This rule is activated with the 'Part Geometry Change' event trigger. This is done to update the mass in the drawing file even when the partfile is not saved. This works fine. If I make any changes to the model the mass is updated correct, EXCEPT for deleting features. When I delete a feature and switch to the drawing file the mass is shown as N/A again. So apparently deletion of any feature is not recognized as a 'Part Geometry Change' because the rule isn't triggered.

I will review the rest of the thread tomorrow as I am leaving Inventor for today but this is bugging me!!

I can only see the change when I close the drawing and re-open it as of now.

note: When I do hit the update button it does shown the change for a split second then goes back to its previous state. Why does it not stay the new updated version? Inventor 2012

AutoCAD Inventor :: Form-want To Change Parameters Of Skeletal File Then Update Assembly

Dec 14, 2012

I have created a iLogic form for my skeletal part file that drives my assembly. The issues is that it is a few steps to get the assembly to update.

Current Steps: open skeletal part fileuse form to change size parameterssave new skeletal size changesopen assemblypress the update button if changes haven't already been applied...I have tried to link these parameters directly to the assembly and tried to create the form using those linked parameters from the skeletal part file. It looks like it would work, but I am unable to edit the parameters once the form is created.

I am hoping that the I can skip opening and editing the skeletal part file.open assembly fileuse form to change size and dimensions, and all part files and drawings are updated to that new shape and size.

I have tried to create a global Form in the skeletal part file, and tried to update the size changes in the assembly file.I was able to changes the inputs this way, but once I pressed the apply I get an error with no changes.  what I want but I am not very up to date on iLogic or these forms. I will be searching Google for now.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Displaying Projected Lines When Using Breaks?

Aug 13, 2012

I have a drawing of an assembly and have a sectioned view so as to see the internals. The assembly is very long so I've used 3 breaks to shorten it to fit the page. What I'm wanting to do is create a sketch and project the geometries of several parts so I can fill them in with color. The problem I'm having is when I click the lines I want projected, the lines don't form over the part but form where I assume they would be if there were no breaks on the view. I do this all the time and it works fine, but it's usually with only 1 break. I'm thinking it's the 3 breaks that are causing the problem.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Material Favorites Does Not Update When Update Materials

Dec 9, 2013

I made a change to my materials library.  I changed the color (from dark grey to light grey) of one material.  I then saved this back to my library.

Now, when I start a new part, I get a warning that the material does not match the library.  So, rather than using the material in the part, I opened the template and updated the material to match the library. (Manage >Update Styles).

This is where the problems come into play. In the update styles dialog, if I compare materials against my custom materials and then compare it to my Favorites, it just a continuious circle.  It is like the favorites are stored inside the part and do not get updated to match the custom materials library. (I thought the whole idea behind using a library was to get the information out of the parts).

Here is a short video showing what it does. [URL] .....

The only way I can get the favorites to match is to delete the favorite material, update the style and the add the favorite back in.  That is a bunch of work.  The problem I got with this is that there are thousands of parts that have been created that has this favorite in it.  The only way to update these is to open each part (if I knew which one), delete the favorite, update the materials and then add the favorite back in.

I see the same thing in 2013 and 2014.

The example would be that I have stuff made from way back that the colors/dimension sytles ect dont match the current standard and upon opening a file where they are not current, it would either prompt to update immediatly OR update automatically with no prompting (preferred method).

I am doing a massive amount of updates from old files recently and to save myself 1 - 3 clicks per drawing would be wonderful.
