View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an aluminum frame system that is comprised of 9 seperate extrusions, what is the best way to handle this? I would like to get a BOM that shows each each seperate extrusion with cut length.
Must I author each of the 9 shapes separately , then separately apply them onto the frame and then adjust each of the end conditions accordingly?
For initial experimentation I created an .ipt in which I have a sketch of all 9 shapes, I extruded them all separately (multibody) then authored the combination of all shapes as one frame gen shape..
This allows me to easily apply the member and create the appropriate end conditions, but does not give me an accurate BOM.
Working on setting up 2013 for our department. By default we use the application option - Part Tab - of creating a sketch on the x-z plane upon new part creation. Now this actually works, problem is you can't draw on it, or you can't see what you are drawing. If you exit out of the sketch and start a new one then it works. I have found that if you switch the setting to the y-z plane is does the same thing. Switching it to no new sketch or the x-y plane and it works fine. Tying to determine if it's actually a bug in inventor or if it's just something with what I am doing or our template files.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Inventor, less than a month of experience learning by myself. I want to create an ifeature that uses sketches from 2 different planes. I found out how to place a simple ifeature but i'm having difficulty with the multiple plane references. I can select the 2 planes when inserting and tried using the "activate sketch for placement", but I can only reference the first feature, the second one isn't available at that point, therefore does not appear after completion.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I dimension, and assign editable parameters between different extrusions on one part, to change the height, width, etc?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to add some of our custom extrusions to the content center but want them to act the same way Inventor's "default" files act. By that I mean, if I make a new assembly and pick a piece of Angle, for example, to place from the content center, as long as I choose "as standard" and give it a length, the part shows up without me having to save anything new. I can then copy or drag in a second instance of that same angle, right click it and "change length", and the length of just that ONE changes. In the tree on the right the result is:
-DIN 59 370 S S 10x 2 - 600:1
-DIN 59 370 S S 10x 2 - 2000:1
With 600 and 2000 being lengths. That's standard Inventor behavior with their standard parts. When I try to publish my own extrusion, I guess I don't have the right key columns or something. I place MY extrusion and input a length, etc. Then when I copy it and try to "change length", nothing happens and it is named part number:2 in the tree.
I am using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013 and I am currently trying to move some square holes that I made (using extrusions). How can I move these around inside the main extrusion (called Extrusion 1 in the attached design) without changing any of the dimensions etc?
Is there a simple way of selecting them all and moving them, or do I have to do it one at a time?
I've modelled part of a ship's deck, it consists of rather simple geometrich shapes(Plates, knee brackets and profiles).
However, when i model the assembly and do some negative extrusions in order to get the model how i want it, it leads to a face failure during mesh generation.
How can I detect sheet metal cut and extrusion cut features that have the white circular model browser node icon wih the "i" insided it (toolip says "No effect?") via the Inventor API? You get this situation if the sketch does not cut any geometry. I want to delete these features.
I'm using Inventor 2012 and VB.Net.

I am trying to suppress features or Extrusions if the extrusions are outside of the Raduis of a contruction circle Called the OTL. I have added a model to look at. So lets say I have holes enougth for a 40" dia but I want only hole today for a 20" dia how do i suppress the holes on that radius. Sketch 10 is where the OTL contruction line is and its a radius so its always moving as I go from center out.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor our bespoke AutoCAD plugin we can not use mirrored blocks or those with extrusions.
I know I can find mirrored blocks by quick selecting scales of less than 0, is there a similar way to select blocks with a negative extrusion?
Even better would be a process (LisP?) to select all the blocks that are mirrored or have negative extrusions.
I'm trying to create about 150 cross-sections, each consisting of 9 closed polylines of which I have created the coordinates. My issue is making the list of coordinates create separate polylines instead of one enormous polyline. Any way to setup the columns, perhaps with blank rows, some way of applying ASCII code, etc. to automatically break up these polylines? (even if they aren't closed that's fine, I just need to make the polylines separate.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI created walls for a structure by drawing a simple polylines and extruding it by the Z axis, so that i get a vertical plane. I created a number of such planes in the layer. I want to extract total area of this layer which has these polyline extrusions (planes). I know the command of add area, but it is a tedious process and does not work for curved planes. How do I extract the area for the entire layer in one go ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a part given to me from a customer that has ALL custom planes turned on. This file is large and has many assemblies, part, sub assy's.... too much to go thru one at a time. Can I turn all 'plane views' off at once? Why? Because I find it messy... no other reason.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen in assembly mode when i right click on a part workplane there is sometimes the Visibilty option and other times there is no Visibility option ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAll previous releases of Inventor before 2013 would display the name of the parameter that controls the offset value of a plane. While editing an offset plane you could see the name either in the title of the pop up or by holding your cursor over the parameter value. In release 2013 I have been unable to find the parameter name anywhere when editing the plane. I have a lot of equations in my models. Being able to track down bugs is difficult enough without not knowing what parameter I'm looking at.
Is there a setting I need to turn on/off to get the parameter name to display again?
I have a sketch on plane XY and I have another plane at an angle, which I would like to work on. How can I create a sketch on the angled plane, using the geometry from the XY sketch and which I can snap to?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis sheet metal part has two bends, and was created with a lofted flange feature on the XY plane:
It was then cut by two circular profiles on the XZ plane:
When the flat pattern is created, it seems to work just fine as long as the diameter of the circular cut is below a certain value. Once the diameter is increased beyond this value, the flat pattern returns a cryptic error and does not compute:
I know that the bend geometry does NOT pass through the bend axis, so I am left guessing at what the real problem is. I have attached the part. The part currently has the parameter called "Tank_ID" set to 500 in. To see the error, change the value of this parameter to 600 in. For me, the flat pattern breaks between the values of 512 and 513 in.
Why does the flat pattern work at 512, but not at 513, since there is no significant difference in geometry?
Possible to have more than 1 derived part in a part.
And is it possible to select on which plane and location the derived part is to be?
I have a part with a derived part but now I want to add another part to it. is this possible?
I need to accurately position a point on an angled plane, but the question is how?
I've generated the required planes, the axis to revolve the angled plane around, and of course, the angled plane itself. (See attacment)
I now need to position the point coincident to the generated axis/plane and the angled plane. I have nothing to refer to so I can't project any geometry from any face. (The vee-shaped recess is generated after the slot is extruded and its position is the resut of the breakout against the OD).
How can I do this???
In the programming I found an example to place an ifeature on a face.I've modified it to place it on a face without selectset but with features. faces. item(1)
how to place it on that face with a vertex from that face or a workpoint that lies on that face.I've tried to adapt other code on this forum but can't find it.
I have created a part in Inventor that is not on the ground plane, is there an easy way to quickly re-position this on the ground plane ?

I have what I am sure is -not very complicated- part that has a goofy intersecting angle. I have created a plane for this angle to try and do the cutout but it extrudes at the 30 deg, where as I would like to extrude that 30 deg feature at 90 deg. Is this possible?
The RED text says "Currently extruding this way" (30 deg per the plane)
The BLUE text says "Want to extrude this way" (90 deg, in line with the from face basically)

I am using Inventor 2010 Professional Student. I have drawn and extruded on a plane. I need to move this plane to a new measurement (from -45 to -47). When the Edit Dimension box appears, I type the new measurement in, but the plane wont move. I have a lot of construction sitting on this plane, but it is in the wrong spot.
