AutoCAD Inventor :: Best Way To Model A Steel Tensioner Cable

Jan 4, 2013

I was wondering the best way to model a steel tensioner cable in Inventor. The assembly I have designed is of a cable fixed between two brackets which are fastened on two structural beams. I am looking accurately model the cable attachment on the brackets. My inital thought would be to extrude the length of cable through a pre-defined path between the bracket fixing holes however this would not represent a 'true life scenario'.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Translate Cable Along With Rotating Cable Constraint

Feb 28, 2012

I am working on a assembly where a cable wrapped around a drum is animated to rotate with the drum, and there is a longer cable coming off of the rotating cable wrap, this longer piece goes down to another cable on a roller assembly. I have edited the assembly to work without the actual cable drum and without the roller assembly ( I wasnt allowed to share those models ) There are now two cylinders in place of the cable drum, a Grounded center to hold everything in place, a Rotating center which is animated so the wrap can rotate.

My problem is when the part named "Drum to Roller" is a lofted cable with angled ends to meet the "Drum wire wrap" at one end and it meets the "Radius cable ends" at the other end. I need the "Drum to roller" to stay constrained to the "radius cable ends" as well as the "drum wire wrap" ... and after being constrained still animate.

I have set up the animation and you will see that the "Drum wire wrap" is animated to keep the end vertical , the animation is set up to look like the "drum wire wrap' is un-raveling cable and the "drum to roller" is to be what un ravels.

I need to find a way so that the "drum to roller" translates down and over , staying constrained to the "drum wire wrap".. You will see that so far it does not.

I have attached two links below they include the two halfs of my assembly, place all the files in the same folder so you wont have to search for them manually.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Make Cables For Cable Stayed Bridge

Nov 15, 2012

It is a while ago since I used Inventor, so i'm now just practising a bit to get the hang of it.

As a start a cable stayed bridge looked fun. So I made the towers and the roaddeck. But now comes the tricky part, and that are the cables themselves. When I started I just thought I could use the 3D sketsh feature. But as it turns out, that feature is not available in the Assembley environment. I could just make the cables as a Part and then insert them in the assembley, but that is to much work. As you can see from the pictures below the holes I made in the towers to accomodate the cables do not line up with the edge of the roaddeck on which I want to secure them. So the cables make to much angles for me to make the as a part. And besides that, I just think it could be done more easily.

Below you can see the images I made of the bridge so far. The first one is an overall image, the second one shows the tower with the holes (if the holes won't work, I can always make something else), and the third image shows the area on which the cables will be attached to the roaddeck.

Can this be done in the Assembley environment?

Note: I planned this to be a cable stayed bridge, not a suspension bridge. But tips to make this into a susension bridge are welcome as well.

For the record: I'm using Inventor 2012

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cable Assemblies / Make The Wire Routing Look A Little Neater

Mar 1, 2012

Many times, we run several individual wires from one device to another. They are not grouped in a cable jacket or anything just individual wires. I was wondering if there is anyway to make the wire routing look a little neater as right now I have to tweak each wire one by one and many times it looks like crap. Can I use a segment for this and then just turn off the visibility of the segment or something? I just want the wires to look neat running from one place to another and there must be a way to do this?

AutoCad 3D :: Model A Steel Tension Cable

I'm familiar with basic solid modelling for walls, roofs etc. but for my project at the moment I have a concrete wall with a number of suspended platforms held up by 45 degree steel tension cables.

I don't know much about curves and pipes and things.

Do you know the easiest way to model a steel tension cable with some form of connecting eyelet at each end. Preferably the cable should look as though formed from twisted wires rather than a smooth rod.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Pattern On Folded Sheet Metal Not Working?

Oct 24, 2013

I'm nowhere close to an expert at Inventor, so there might be an easier way to do this, but I am trying to draw a dimpled heat exchanger. It's just two dimpled sheets welded together with hot oil running through the hollow space so I am trying to do one sheet first. I thought about making the flat sheet with the dimples first and then bending it, but couldn't figure out how to bend it.

Now I'm working off an already bent sheet. I got the first dimple close to how I want it, but when I tried to pattern the dimple along the current purple line, it would not let me.

I need the dimples to eventually wrap around the sheet metal in a diamond pattern. Also, I am using Inventor 2010

I now want to take a section out of the middle bit, i can cut a bit out but how do i rejoin them?I was hoping to move bodies but i can't select a sing bit it only selects the hole thing even though it is in two bits?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Split Folded Sheet Metal Part To Several Parts?

Feb 4, 2013

I have made a sheet metal part in inventor (see image). I have made the part as it will be in the finished production state. The problem is that the part is impossible to bend from one single plate, so it has to be made from several plates and welded together.

What i want to do is to remove the four corner plates (denoted with red arrows in the image) and make a flat pattern for these separately.

The reason i made these corner plates in my model is to get the assembled part 100% correct. if i dont, inventor doesnt make the angles that i need between the flanges in the top.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sheet Metal - Rolled Cylinder With Folded Tabs At End Faces?

Oct 2, 2012

I am trying to use the sheet metal functionality to generate a flat pattern of insulation that is wrapped around a tank.  The insulation essentially consists of a rolled cylinder with tabs at the cylinder ends that are to be folded inward to cover the end plates.  I can't seem to find a way to make this happen as every time I am able to generate the tabs in the folded model they don't unfold into the flat pattern.

I am using Inventor 2010.
