How the heck do I make a bent coil following an arc 90 deg?
I do know how to make coil and helix, screws etc bur I cannot figure out how to make this coil

I'm looking for making this part. I'm trying to make a pipe that is bent into a donut so the two ends are connected. Then theres a coil around the pipe.
How I can make the donut and/or the coil?
Im using Inventor 2013 and im trying to make a tapered coil but instead of creating it with a liner taper i want a curved taper. Is there a way to create this (perhaps using guide curves like loft feature?)

This is a side view of my frame. I am trying to make it so that the outer members are simply one piece of angle iron that is notched and bent at the angles. I have not been able to figure out how to do this and as it stands right now, that piece of the frame is made up of 5 seperate lengths of angle iron. Is there any way to get it as one piece in the frame generator or any other way for that matter?

View 15 Replies View RelatedIn an attempt to aid purchasine I have started adding a length and width parameter to our models. These parameters are converted to a purchase parameter either in square feet or per foot length depending on how the material is purchased. I would like the paramater to also automatically update if the part size is changed. I now come to a part made of a round shaft that is bent and am looking for a way to get an accurate length for it. The part is made with a sweep and the square corners are radisuesd in the sewwp. I could pull the three dimensions in the sketch and add them together to roughly appeoximate the length but that would not be quite accurate. As the number I come up with will also be used by fab to cut the rod before bending I would like it to be correct. Is there a way to generate an accurate length that can be saved as a parameter? In SWx I would create a datum axis in a sketch that could be used but I am not seeing how to do that here.

I want to have a cut out across the bend area. How to project that in to a flat pattern and cut out the relative opening size in the part.
Is there a way to form tabs along a cylindrical surface? We are trying to make a bottom of a round basket and we are trying to use the sheet metal portion of Inventor so we could create a flat layout but I can not seem to use an arch as a bendline. Is this the case? We are using IV 2011.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a model of a plywood seat "blank" which I have trimmed by way of an extrusion cut to give the plywood seat its shape. Basically I'll use my modeled shape to CNC rout the shape into the actual blank. However, before I tie up a CNC to make my 1st part I want to create a flat pattern which I will lay on the actual plywood blank and cut it out by hand to see if the shape aesthetically works. I am trying to unfold/ unroll/ flat pattern the shape in inventor (as a sheet metal part) so I can plot it but am not able to do so successfully (fails). Is the shape to complex? I have attached an image of the blank, an image of the finished shape desired and the .ipt. I'm not an expert at sheet metal but I have successfully done this sort of thing before making flat patterns of transition cones etc so I do think I am following the correct procedure but this part is far more complex that I am used to. Also, the model of the "blank" was imported as an iges from my supplier before I made it a thickened surface so I'm afraid inventor doesn't "historically know" how it was created and therefore cannot flatten it.

I have constructed a sheet metal tube by first creating a flat sheet face and then by folding the sheet with two, 180 degree bends and large radius. I am doing it this way in order to simplify the drawing of the cutouts that are required in the "real" sheet (with many more cutouts than in the sample I have provided.)
When I try to add work points or work axis to the holes shown in the sample, only the holes on the second bend will accept the work features, the holes on the first bend will not - giving the error:
TEST.ipt: Errors occurred during update Projected loop failed because of multiple vertex solutions Work Point8: Could not build this Point Copy Point Zero or multiple solutions for Point Copy Point. Use Redefine Feature to change its definition.
I am using the work point as reference to the center of the hole in order to position a rod.
Working on a simple cylinder with a coil runing around the outside of it. For some reason the mesh does not handel the geometry correctlly - can figure our why - any thoguths ? Attaced are pics from the meshing and the model.

You can see from the images attached that the first two revolutions are larger than the semi-circle outline.
These are the values I have used:

I've read the posts pertaining to coil features along curved paths. The existing solutions are limited in that they must rely on a solid with the addition of a bend feature. How can I create a helical surface structure including multiple bends like the one shown?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to unfold a coil shape to get the flat pattern? When I try to unfold the attached part I get an error message (see attached error_msg.jpg). We have been using AutoPOL to unfold these kind of shapes (which works fine). But since we have a very old version which we really need to upgrade, I was wondering if nowadays Inventor could handle coil unfolds.
If this will not work with the current IV2013 release, will this then be implemented in a future release? Are there any alternatives or should I just go for the AutoPOL upgrade?

I have generated a gear set using inventor. Now I would like to 3d print the gears. I have uesd the export tooth shape to get the true tooth profile. now I am attempting to use the coil feature to generate the helical tooth. The problem im running into is in the coil tool I can only give it a Revolution and height dimension. The hight is the width of the gear, but I am having a problem converting the helix angle to the "Revolution" perameter. I have read other posts and they say that it is Helix angle / 360. I have tried that and then compared it to the original gear generated by inventor and it is not even close. I need to do this on in internal gear and match it to an external gear.
