AutoCAD Inventor :: Use Drive Constraint In Sketch Mode For Blocks
Oct 25, 2012I wonder if one can use drive constraint in sketch mode for blocks as I like to visualise how the links move when one dimension changes.

View 4 RepliesI am designing a vertical axis wind turbine just for some practice (just started using Inventor) and everything was going smoothly until I tried to "animate" it spinning. First, I set up a work plane that goes through the center of the structure, and then I clicked angle constraint "explicit reference vector." After watching several youtube videos, I figured that I should click on the work plane, click on another reference point, and then click another point that would be orthogonal to those two (right?). Well after I choose the first point, Inventor will only allow me to choose the center axis as the second option (which I think should be the third option).
View 6 Replies View Related I can't seem to get inventor to select a given parameter inside a sketch. It keeps giving me an error.
All I want to do is to have inventor Select / Highlight a parameter inside of a sketch so the user can clearly see it in the window. Ive tried heaps of different selection options, I just can't work out what ive done wrong.
Sub GetParameter()Dim TargetName As StringDim oCompDef As PartComponentDefinitionDim oSketch As PlanarSketchDim oConstr As DimensionConstraintDim oParam As ParameterDim oCmdMgr As CommandManagerTargetName = d0 ' parameter nameSet oCmdMgr = ThisApplication.CommandManagerSet oCompDef = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.ComponentDefinitionFor Each oSketch In oCompDef.Sketches For Each oConstr In oSketch.DimensionConstraints If oConstr.Parameter.Name = TargetName Then Set oParam = oConstr.Parameter oSketch.Edit Call oCmdMgr.DoSelect(oParam) Exit Sub End If NextNextEnd Sub
See attached screen shot.
To activate the new position of the assembly of approx 5k instances takes about 5 minutes in IV 2013 when using Drive constraint. The larger the assembly the longer it takes
In IV2011 takes about 10 seconds. I've never seen the "Not responding" sign in Drive constraint window in previous versions. I'm just wondering how can avoid this "New feature" of 2013.
I am using inv2011. I have to create rec. blocks very often and in inv2011 . I have to constraint it in middle.
Can i write a Macto that gives me constraint rec block in sketch. This feature already available in Inv12.
I have a Scissor Jack Assembly in its open Position. (fully constrained)
I would like to be able to use Drive constraint & show the Assembly in its closed position.
I know I need to adjust one or two of my constraints.
When I record an animation in .avi using the Drive Constraint command here's what pops :
-The codec you selected to compress this AVI video stream cannot handle the current screen color depth and/or the graphics frame size. Please try another codec.
-Then I press OK and it records but the AVI file is empty and no video is watchable.
What can I do?
I'm using Autodesk Inventor 2012 ans a windows 7 64bit brand new computer with Nvidia graphic card.
I am using these set limits within a drive constraint so
to show the Jack opening & closing.
Although it can now open & close with ease,
how I can make the crank turn with the screw rod at the same time as the scissor car jack opens & closes.
Im working on a miniature train project of PLTW... I have completed the train and made a track for it... but i can't figure out how to create a drive/motion constraint that would make it go along the track.
(All the files are in a zip folder that is attached)
PS... if you go to this youtube video you can see what im trying to do: [URL].......
Likely a simple question; I have completed a part and because I am new, drew it a certain way to make my life easier. Now that the part is complete I would like to rotate the entire part (but not create a new solid) by 45 deg.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAutodesk for Inventor 2013, the ability to save while in sketch mode - if you're going to be spending a lot of design time sketching then this needs to be addressed so that the drawing is automatically saved. Otherwise if Inventor crashes (which it often does) while you're busy sketching away you loose your work.

Some how I turned off the snap to end point in the sketch mode. where is the dialog box to control snap settings
In 5.3 I can create reference dimensions in sketch mode to my hearts content. They became very valuable as I would use them to determine placement of multiple features. Now, in IV 7, I have alot of trouble creating reference dimensions from adjacent features on the same surface. I have to change the way I'm working now and it has stumped me on a few occasions. is there a "new" feature I need to enable or is this the cost of progress?

I have a curve and a straight line that connect and when I select fillet it will allow me to select the curve but not the straight line. I have been able to do this in the past with no problems.

I was giving a hand drawn wiring diagram (original.jpg) and it is a rats nest!!
I was asked to re-draw this and put it on our drawing template.
I have the plugs and terminal blocks drawn up and now I am about to attempt to add in the wires, but the sketch is so filled with dimension lines and values, it is going to be a task to try and make sure every line I draw is correct. This would be much easier to do if the dimensions could be turned off as the wires I am drawing will not be constrained.
I don't think there is layers options inside a sketch mode, or a if i start a new sketch I don't think I can project that sketch to the new one?
The only other options I can think of was to delete all dimensions and apply FIX constraint to everything! or
I guess I could have modeled the plugs and blocks in position and added them to the drawing, projected the geometry to a new sketch and added in my wires??
There must be someway to toggle the dimensions??

I use 3D sketching frequently as a means to generate frames with the frame generator.
I notice that the constrain group no longer contains an equal length tool, as in a simple 2D sketch. This is where i would generally select two lines, and constrain them to be equal in length.
Is there a reason for this omission? Should I be worried that my menus are not showing the full options for constraints?
Is there an option to add an i mate within a sketch block. I am working on a belt conveyor for handling coal and have created a master sketch to drive all components for along the conveyor.
As the ground modules are all the same module, i have a sketch block. Problem is i cannot add an i mate to the idlers within the sketch block. It means i can only create to i mates individually after the sketch block is copied or patterned.
I opened Inventor 2013 this morning to find this issue. Everything starts fine, I am able to open/create a part file and enter sketch mode, but as soon as I click a draw operation (spline, line, rectangle, etc.) it freezes on me. I have been using 2013 for a couple months now without issue, and cannot associate this with a change of anything on my computer.I have tried:
1) Restarting computer
2) Reducing graphics display quality to Rough
3) Checking "Software Graphics"
4) Calibrate my 3Dconnexion mouse
5) The diagnostic check for graphics card (approved)
creating a named sketch block (in an ipt) containing entities that I have created in the same sub? I'm doing this from Excel, in Inventor 2010.
What I have:
Function CreateUncutTagSketchBlock()Dim IVApp As Inventor.ApplicationDim oDoc As DocumentDim oCompDef As ComponentDefinitionDim oSketch As SketchDim oTG As TransientGeometryDim FileName As StringDim Coords(1 To 10) As Point2dDim oSketchCircle As Circle2dDim oSketchArcs(1 To 2)
[code]....
note that i've also taken a shortcut with the arcs, and the circle. I did try to create them using the same naming convention as the lines, but... I failed to implement it successfully. Also, I can not quite figure out how to constrain all the start/end points together.
Is there any way to add sketch blocks to an assembly sketch?
