AutoCAD Inventor :: Realistic View - Ray Tracing Won't Work

Aug 22, 2012

So I've been using ray the realistic view with ray tracing enabled for a while now for quick renders, but I recently had to reinstall Windows and now it wont work. I've installed all of my drivers and everything is up to date, but when I click on ray tracing it starts to do it for a couple of seconds then just disables. After that first try whenever I click the button it simply wont enable.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Does Nvidia GTX 580 Work With GPU Accelerated Ray-tracing In 2013

May 25, 2012

I´m running Inventor 2013 under Windows 7 64-bit.

Nvidia GTX 680 did not work with GPU accelerated ray-tracing in Inventor 2013. I replaced it with a GTX 580 GPU card, exact same result. Either I´m just doing something wrong, or it plain does not work.

Are there any consumer grade GPU cards that work with the ray-tracing functionality in Inventor 2013?

I have been designing a school project for the last 2 months using the student version of inventor 2014. The realistic views have been working the whole time before but now it is not working. I click on it, and it just switches back to shaded view. If I click on shadows, or reflections I get the following message.

"One or more visual effects in use are not supported by the current system graphics hardware. We strongly recommend running the Diagnostics check in applications option for detailed information.Would you like to run hardware Diagnostics now?"

After selecting Yes I get the following,The graphics driver is fully certified.

Also, my other problem is when i put on realistic view, i m seeing grey-ish blocks instead of "real" materials. In my previous assignment, I did see the "Real" materials when i set it on realistic view. However i did try to reset to default for my realistic veiw, but still it did not seem to be working.

3ds Max :: How To Create Windows In Top View By Tracing Over Imported Cad Lines

Apr 18, 2011

In 2011 max design, i was able to create windows (frame, glass etc) in the top view by tracing over imported cad lines. i could then group those components, rotate them 90 degrees to orient them properly, then create a plane at 0" on the z-axis and align that group to the plane in the z-axis min/min. so the rotated window group would rise upward and the bottom of the window group would be at 0" in the z-axis. now, now matter what combination of things i try, i can't get the group to do that. i have to un-group and align each component individually.

I just tried it by creating 3 boxes all smaller than the previously created one and as soon as i group it, the min-min align doesn't work when those 3 boxes are grouped. individualy it work, but then of course the smaller boxes line up at 0 in the z-axis too.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Constrain Section View To Work Plane

Jul 2, 2013

If you edit a section view sketch you can project model edges in the sketch and use them to constrain the section view line. However I cannot seem to project an included workplane to the sketch. For a particular application I really need to use a workplane because the model is actually a dummy that gets replaced by a vb macro. So any projected model edges will loose their reference.

I found out that I could use a sketch in the model to create the section view. In a model sketch it is possible to project work planes, so this looks like a good solution. However I do prefer the flexibility that you have when you use a drawing sketch.

How to use a work plane to constrain a section view, other then the model sketch method explained above.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Ditch Subassembly In Corridor - Using Realistic Mode To View

Oct 18, 2013

I'm using the Ditch subassembly in my corridor and am running into a problem when using realistic mode to view.

I've applied a render material to L3, L2 and L4 which is fine but when I assign a material to L1-L5 (i.e Top) it overdraws (or otherwise fails to display) the previously assigned materials for L2, L3 and L4.

If I set the Links L1-L5 (i.e. Top) to no display then L2, L3 and L4 display as expected but when IMX'd to Infraworks the existing terrain shows through at Links L1 and L5.

Is it possible to stop this from happening and have a seperate material for L1 and L5 whilst retaining L2,L3 & L5 materials?

It currently displays the plane shadows which are 2 planes crossed in the shape of an "X". I also noticed on others' systems their tree objects are more 3d and not images draped on planes. Is this due to graphics card?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Ray Tracing Not Applying Shadows Or Lighting Correctly

Oct 10, 2012

Just started having a play with ray tracing in Inventor 2013 Pro & I'm quite impressed how quickly you can get a rendered view of a model. However, it seems no matter how I set up the lighting or the shadows in the 'Settings' menu when I click on 'Tay Tracing' it seems to default back to some original settings. The shadows & lighting in any of the drop down menus don't seem to be applied. eg. I select 'Two Lights' from the menu, then select 'Settings' I then adjust the shadows & the lights from within the menu. It all looks good on the screen & click Ray Tracing & everything that I've done doesn't get applied? However, when I cancel & stop the Ray Tracing the shadows & Lights are still there.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tips For Rendering / Ray Tracing Dark Objects

Oct 10, 2011

My goal is to get it so that I can just turn on realistic visual style and ray tracing and be able to get usable screen shots for product datasheets/ marketing material without having to resort to rendering in studio. (If possible and I think it should be) All my products feature a black powder coated enclosure (think DVD player shape/size). When I enable ray tracing all I basically see is a black blob with no good definition between surfaces, etc.I'm assuming now that I need to do 2 things #1 increase/modify lighting and #2 modify the colors in the style library to work better. For that black color in the style editor I basically have all 4 colors (ambient/diffuse/specular/emissive) set to black. Is there something I should do to allow "more realistic" colors instead of just all color options set as black? I've gotten very decent renders from studio that worked just fine in the past but I've got roughly 400+ screenshots that are needed now for new products. I can play around with settings till I'm blue in the face but I was just looking for tips to have a decent baseline to start with.

Photoshop :: Realistic 3D Rendering Converted To Less Realistic Image?

Oct 11, 2013

Was wondering if there are some ways in converting a highly realistic rendering of an object generated in a 3D program into a more illustrative, simplified, alittle less realistic version in Photoshop?

The object has plenty of silver reflections, HDRI environment map reflections, precise shadows and highlights, etc. I just want to make it look more generic  and not as polished I guess.

Are there filters or plugins that will do this in a plug in play method or is it more prodedural and manual?

The application is unavailable. There was an error while initializing the graphics subsystem.  This is likely due to one or more of the following:  your graphics driver is not configured for "True Color", there was a problem installing the application, the application installation was damaged, or some other problem with the graphics hardware and drivers or the configuration of the application.  More detailed information may be included below.

Also, when I try to switch to Realistic Visual Style, it will not allow me to. When I go into Application Options, Hardware, and try to set it for Quality it always goes back to Compatibility.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Standard Black Color In Realistic Mode Shows Texture

Dec 14, 2011

The standard black color in Inventor appears as if it has a subtle texture when I use Realistic shading mode (see image). But when I edit the style there is no Use texture Image or Bump / file associated with it. I tried Realistic Appearance checked on & off in edit dialog & it makes no difference.

I want to represent a flat anodized black color for some marketing images. We have a lot of parts that use the standard black color & I really don't want to spend the time to change them all to a new custom black color (without a texture).

How can I make the standard black not have a texture in realistic & rendered modes?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Work Axis Where Work Plane Intersects Curved Surface?

I keep running into a situation where I would like to be able to create an edge or a work axis at the intersection of a work plane and the surface of the part.  I figured out a work around if the surface is flat, but I haven't figured out a work around for a curved surface.

How do I create work axis where work plane intersects curved surface?

Or put another way: How do I project intersection of work plane and curved surface onto the work plane in a 2D sketch?

I need to be able to draw a 2D sketch on the work plane, but get a perfectly matching projected line onto the work plane, from the curved surface, at the intersection of the curved surface and the work plane.

The attached jpg shows the intersection in question.  I circled it.
