AutoCAD Inventor :: Making Train Go Around A Track
Mar 14, 2012
I have been trying to make a train that i made roll on a track. I have seen youtube videos of people who have made their train go around a track (I have the same dimensions as the people in the video through project lead the way).
I have the train constrained to the track with a tangent constraint. How to make the wheels turn on the track (i know how to make the wheels turn, i just do not know how to make all the wheels turn in unison/together and how to make them actually move along the track instead of make the wheels turn in place.
I have a basic train that I am doing for a project at school. I am doing a fairly advanced extension of this project for some extra credit and I am wishing to make this train be animated.
Since my first name is Jackson, I decided early on to make a track design in the shape of a J (bubble letter). In my class, the only requirement was to make the train go in a straight line.
What I have now: I have two assemblies of both a train, and one of my track design. My thoughts on how to do this. I thought it would be possible to make the train follow a path or something to that effect.
I am using CS and the “blend” tool to create a train track but I cannot seem to get the spacing to look right. I tried adding a 3rd railroad tie in the middle but that didn’t work either. How I can get more spacing in the foreground and less in the distance?
I have tried in vain to construct a planetary gear train in Inventor 2011 & the spur gear generator hasn't work much since the results are far from good, I have problems getting all the gears to fit together. The Internal gear has a diametrical pitch of d=120mm & the smallest gear a diametrical pitch of d=20mm, the outcome should produce a 6:1 gear ratio. The 3 other gears only offer stabillity, but I still need to know how I get it all to fit together with my measurements?
Im working on a miniature train project of PLTW... I have completed the train and made a track for it... but i can't figure out how to create a drive/motion constraint that would make it go along the track.
(All the files are in a zip folder that is attached)
PS... if you go to this youtube video you can see what im trying to do: [URL].......
Is there any way to track BOM changes. For instance you have an assembly that was checked in to the Vault. Later revision was made to it. Is there any way to keep track what parts were removed and what parts were added on the latest revision? Is there any tool to get such report?
When cutting video shots in sync with a music track how can I remove part of a clip and replace with a new shot. I know there is a replace clip facility but there appears to be no way of editing the new clip. What I would like to do is leave blanks in sync with the music and fill in correct length of shot later. The same question for overlaying video shots of an interview and holding sync when returning to interviewee.
In VideoStudio 6, how does one connect the voice track to the video during the editing process?
My specific issue is that I have to go back and edit material sometimes that precedes the voice track I already have laid down, but when the time frame of the material after my new edit I have to go back and drag the voice track to the proper location. I would like to be able to permanently "attach" the voice track to the specific video clip and have it follow that clip as it is moved, time wise, during the editing process.
Is there a means to make this happen?
PS - I realize there is a work around way - just publish each clip and then rebuild the final project but that is NOT what I want to do.
I see that you can split the audio from the video. Can you do the reverse and link the audio back into the video say after you split, cut and mute an off camera scream? It would just make it easier to add clips before the edited one, although it's not all that hard to sync things up.
I am having trouble constraining the wire track in the attached picture. I want the track to move naturally when the sliding piece moves, however it folds over on itself and doesn't stay in line. I can't figure out anyway to make it look uniform and move they way it should, is it possible in inventor?
I'm trying to make a constraint allowing the dark smaller cylinder (1) to run in the copper track (2). I want the larger cylinder (3) to be able to rotate around its own axis, while everything is rotating around the Z axis. I've successfully constrained the parts so that all the parts can rotate around the Z-axis but when I constrain the smaller cylinder (1) with the tangent constraint with the track (2) the smaller cylinder is not able to move around on the face, it's just glued to the face.
I want the smaller cylinder (1) to recognize the copper faces as solids (so that it can't intersect the surfaces), this would allow the proper movement. I've attached an image of the parts.
Within dynamic simulation, I am trying to have a ball follow a track made of (2) rods, I can do it if the rods are straight but I do not know how to properly apply joints to allow the ball to follow the tracks when they are turning. I need to do this within dynamic simulation because I also hope to add a chain and sprockets with a ball holder to bring the ball back up to the top.
I am trying to constrain a curved wheel to a round, steel track. No constraint has been effective so far. Is there anything I can do to make the wheels stay on track?
This is beyond CAD; but I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask. Can Inventor track a part in an animation and plot the resulting path? This cycloid is a good example (the red curve):
Have been out on the transit job for over a year and finally got time to convert the old primitive track line type to actual rails, ties, and clamps. But this has also added a lot of items to the base file. I opted to use it as an xref instead to improve data speed, but lately it has been taking 2+ minutes to load the file referencing the tracks as an xref.
I'm curious how many of you use note track in the track view/dope sheet? It is running damn slow here, 15sec to add a note track, 30sec adding a note in dopesheet and 1 mins before I could open up the note editor. I doubt it is being useful at all.
Moreover, the infamous Max MotionClip Manager bugs is caused by that... so do you really use it?
I have a photograph of a steam train, which i am editing for my grandfather, and i wanted to add a few smaller pictures in the 'steam' from the train? Ideally i was hoping to put 3 or 4 pictures in 'clouds of steam' if that would work?
I have uploaded a pic of a similar train picture, and may even use the steam from it, as it is fuller than the one i will be using.
I have edited a map and a train image which is fine when applied and the preview works fine but as soon as I create the rendered video the path and the train image have moved to a position further down the map, how to see the path and train image in the right place.
how to change a train's livery (colour) to another colour that I created with a template livery I made in an external program, leaving in things like windows and reflections in there, but in the new colour.
The problems generally happen with vehicles with multiple colours As an example of what I mean, I'd like to change the colour of this [URL] into something like [URL] I've been looking at various tutorials about how to do this, including many youtube videos, which detail how to change the colours of cars, but they mainly involve anther way including the colorize, which would do the entire vehicle based on HUE, which in this case, wouldn't work due to the multiple colours / shade the original vehicle has, including text.
Other methods use hard light to project various external images onto the body, but this mainly has a large amount of colour fluctuation with the new paint. This method generally gives the best impact when the entire image is white, doesn't say much when I am trying to preserve things like reflections and shading.
I'm trying to reskin an train engine for my Trainz simulator I use.I can do the basics. I am stuck on adding color. When I add the color to the train engine, I loose all the detail on the engine. See attached photo. I try the wand but it unpredictable it's goes where ever it wants to.
I need to rig two objects together that follow one another the same way a train car or truck-trailer rig would. I've Googled for days and have tried several different constraint and skeleton options but haven;t been able to figure this out yet.
I am trying to rotate a set of wheels that are moving like a locomotive train wheel and having problems. I was able to animate the wheels to move like a locomotive wheel by linking and turning off the z axis inherit for the red rod (see attached images. Image ex04.jpg.)
The problem came when it was time to rotate the whole thing. I grouped everything and rotated the wheels around as a group. As the red rod had is z axis inherit turned off once it started to detach from it location(ex06.jpg), which was kind of expected.
I am not sure what to do to solve this problem. Do i create a bone structure with IK handles to resolve this problem or is there something else better to solve this problem?
I have a video clip of a train moving across the tracks. The camera also pans to follow the path of the train. I want text to sit on the top of the first car of the train as its travels from left to right.
I used Track Camera and then parented text to the Null object.
The problem is that the text has to adjust in size and perspective as the train moves along.
I have tried keyframing these options but the result appears jittery and jumpy as if the text is dancing on top of the train.
The text should be the exact width of the first train.
Tiny in the distance and then large as it approaches cameras.
Also, there appears to be a bug with the text object not displaying the font correctly. I have tried many fonts and each appears inconsistent. I have attached a screen grab.
The red text is how the characters should appear given my font choice. The red is NOT tied to the null object; its just a text layer. The black font is tied to the null object. You can obserce that certain characters are bold and others not. Overall this looks nothing like the font is supposed to appear.
Please note that both titles are the same font. password for the vimeo clip is : train-tracker
what i want to do is to draw a line that represents a train trace over the ground. I started using the camera tracker and creating a null and a camera and then got lost.
See Attached photo. I can do the color black on top yellow on the bottom half. what is the best way to do the red line that separates the yellow from the black.
Is there a program that can make stp files from our inventor models? Our purchasing department wants to do this task for our vendors and they don't want in have a full version of Inventor to do it.
I can make simple iFeatures but i want to made more dynamic ones. I have attached one that i downloaded from the internet. On this iFeature, you can select a face and pick start / end points to position the feature.
