AutoCAD Inventor :: Making STP Files Without Inventor

Nov 15, 2011

Is there a program that can make stp files from our inventor models? Our purchasing department wants to do this task for our vendors and they don't want in have a full version of Inventor to do it.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Making A Roll Of Tape?

Mar 28, 2012

I have to make a roll of tape in Inventor, but I'm not too familiar with/used to the program. It's the small invisible adhesive tape, like the kind you'd find in office. So far, I sketched and extruded the plastic part the tape gets wrapped around, which is basically just a small tube. I also have a rectangle that's really long for the actual tape part, and that's extruded but very thin. they're both made as standard.ipt files. I opened a standard.iam file to put them together using constraints, but I'm not exactly sure how. I have the edge of the rectangle on the outside of the circle, so I just have to wrap it around. I'm assuming I just bend the rectangle (tape) around the circle (plastic part), but I don't know how to do that.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Making Tube Between Two Circles?

You see that it leaves corners on the back. I would like to have it so it's smooth and has same angle. How should I do it?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Making A Shell Of A Mesh?

Dec 22, 2012

I am trying to make a shell of a mesh feature after I have upscaled it.

I do not think the regular shell technique will work as my mesh feature has hundreds of surfaces. So, I decided to open the file with my part in it and then derive the same part but a little bigger using the derive button. I would then subtract out the smaller, original, one to make a shell of the bigger, derived one.

Unfortunately, when I use this method to upscale, the 2 objects are not concentric so I cannot make the uniform shell that I want to.

I have attached the file of my mesh feature in case you want to see it. not that you will have to convert the object you see on my file into a base feature before doing anything with it. I did not because it would have made the file to big to attach.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Making 2 Mesh Concentric

Jan 8, 2013

I am working with 2 mesh's they are the same shape but different sizes. I want to subtract one out of the other but only after they are both "concentric". The objects are not symmetric so I cannot officially use the term concentric but I do not know any other term.

My problem is that I cannot get them concentric.

Things I tried:

They will definitely both have the same center of mass so I tried doing things with that but to no avail.

I also tried to set 3 constraints (distance between identical surfaces on each mesh) equal to some value x but it did not let me. If it did, I believe the smaller object would have no place to go but right in the center of the bigger one.

I have attached an assembly with both of the objects.

I have been trying to make a train that i made roll on a track. I have seen youtube videos of people who have made their train go around a track (I have the same dimensions as the people in the video through project lead the way).

I have the train constrained to the track with a tangent constraint. How to make the wheels turn on the track (i know how to make the wheels turn, i just do not know how to make all the wheels turn in unison/together and how to make them actually move along the track instead of make the wheels turn in place.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IFeature Fails When Making Table?

Aug 23, 2012

I'm trying to make an Ifeature of SAE ports and I can make the Ifeature just fine but when I try making a table for the different size it fails.

I attached the base part I extracted the Ifeature. The two sizes I edited in the table SAE #2 and #6 both fail while the original size SAE #8 (and all the other unedited sizes) work.

the forum doesn't seem to like .ide files which is the ifeature file

Update: Well it seems changing the thread size fixes the part about the ifeature not working properly. However if I try moving the ifeature it fails. I'm guessing some geometry isn't "following" the base feature.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Making Sheet Metal Part

Oct 12, 2012

I have a 14 gauge sheet metal part that follows the profile in the attached picture.  7/8" legs with a 1/16" offset. Because it's 14 gauge, the contour flange won't create it. I need it to be able to be turned in to a flat pattern so that I may export it to a .dxf.

Is there another way to make this that will allow me to flat pattern it? I have a couple of pieces like this where the offset is very slim, so I am looking for a way to do all of them like this.

I have turbine rotor blade designed as per the aerodynamic considerations. The profile i obtained from the company is completely solid, I would like to make it hollow with  a wall  thickess of 5 mm. I tried if with the Shell feature of Inventor, and Since the profile of the blade is in different planes twisted in different angles, the Shell is not working very well. I have tried it with loft with different cross sections, but i am not getting a completely accurate profile. Is there any tool which automatically recognises the outside profile and will make the Inside hollow also in Inventor?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Making Support For Imported Part?

Feb 14, 2013

I am looking at building a support for a customers part.  Trouble is the part is curves and surfaces.  Part doesnt have too many "flat" sides to it.  I am struggling with how to get what I need.  In this video, I am showing how the part will move onto the support (support is clear blue).

I created an assembly, then derived the iam into a part... subtracting out where the part will sit in the support. The problem I am having is removing the material so the part can move into the support from above.

Here is a picture of the support with the part subtracted out.  I would post this, but the filesize is pretty large (18mb).

I cant seem to find a way to trim this off.

I need to make two parts act solid.  That is, that they need to slide and react as if they were real instead of just going through eachother.  In the assembly included, the "rotator" needs to rotate as it is pulled through the "rifled column (2)".  The other constraints in the assembly are fine as is, but if I can make these parts react correctly, then the center pole and blade will rotate.
