AutoCAD Inventor :: Import And Smooth Out DWG Drawing From CMM Measured Part
Jul 18, 2012
I have a drawing that was made using a CMM arm, so the drawing consists of thousands of tiny lines which make up the perimeter of the part. I'm looking to import this dwg file into Inventor in order to make a sheet metal part and eventually a flat layout of it.
The main thing I'm looking to do is "smooth" out the profile, hopefully without having to redraw the part with the dwg drawing as a template. Is there anyway to acomplish what I'm looking to do? I've attached a sample of the dwg.
I have some large files that I get from a customer in the form of .iges. They give me the .iges because they use CATIA. My problem is that when I try to open the .iges file, it will sit there and try to open in Inventor for about 5 mintues and then the program will just end. It doesn't give me any sort of error message before crashing, it just dissapears. I can open the files in Mastercam just fine. I tried to open the file in Mastercam and save it as a .stp. The same thing happened when opening the .stp in Inventor. I tried to change some of the options that are available when opening these files in Inventor and that doesn't seem to work. I need to get these files open in Inventor desperately.
I've been tasked with looking into the capabilities of Inventor, which we (company I work for) may not be using to their fullest. Now, I am not an Inventor user, I'm on the IT side (programming), but I know the general process for how our models/drawings/documents are created. I think a good word to describe our process is "kludgy". From what I've found in searching for a handful of hours, it seems that Inventor could do what we are doing in other programs, easier and faster.
The background: We have a database and application setup for tracking BOM with costs, weights, etc. We are using Inventor 2012 as well as Vault. We already have lots of parts and assemblies drawn/modeled. Most of our drawings/documents are made in AutoCAD, though I'm not sure how much is coming from Inventor. There are some internally developed macros for exporting these to other formats (.doc).
Would it be possible to import in the data that we already have elsewhere, and match it up to our parts/assembles in Inventor/Vault? This could allow us to improve the process by taking out some of the manual work (in AutoCAD), and improve the accuracy of the information (manual data entry).
I got this part from a customer and when i try to say cut off one end of it (because it is a casting and i need to put a few machined features on it) it will not let me? I am using the datum planes to sketch on so it shows you the part sideways or longways. i tried both different planes. it seems if you try doing it looking into the part it lets you but not from these planes.
I have attached the step file. Scott win 7 64 bit sp1 cpu intel xeon E5-2687W0@3.106 eight core two solid state hard drives 32 gig of ram Autodesk product design suite premuim 2014 64bit Nvida quadro 4000 Space Pilot ver. 1.6.2 2010 slphantom (NNTP handle: scottl)
I am trying to acheive copying parameter from one part/assembly to another part/assembly document and this is what i came out with:
Private Sub CopyParamToTarget(SourceFile As String, TargetFile As String, ByRef ParamList As ListBox) 'Declares the variables to be used in this sub Dim d_target As Inventor.Document = Nothing, d_source As Inventor.Document = Nothing Dim t_transaction
[Code]....
I did another version for Inventor VBA in which is quite similar to this length as well . . .
Tried using ComponentDefinition instead but it does not have access to the Parameters list.
This program continues to surprise me, negatively. I did not want to modify any thing, but to import/place a part into assembly and gives me this picture. why is so important to not modify library????
I'm trying to use "Replace Family Template" to overwrite an iPart family in Content Center.I've made changes to the iProperties of the iPart and I want those new changes to be in Content Center.
When I RMB on the iPart in Content Center and click "Replace Family Template", I get the "Import Part Invalid" message.Should I be able to do what I'm trying to do?
I am having an issue with a drawing, I have an assembly running in Inventor, the parts appear to be in a transparent mode, it is actually a translation from CATIA V5, everything seems to be ok, but when I open a drawing to create dimensions, only the parts that are not transparent appear in it.
I have a sheet metal part with a fully dimensioned drawing made for it. I then make a mirrored (derived) part out of the original. Is there an easy way to get a fully dimensioned drawing of that mirrored part?
I have tried making a copy of the original parts drawing and then replacing the model that is referenced in the drawing but that just gets me a drawing with a bunch of pink dimensions and I have to drag all the dimension points to reattach them.
im using inventor 2012.im trying to put a part list on my drawings.but for some reason, the part list is using a Gost Form. ( diffrent layout and polish/ russian text )How do I go back to default.I have allready tried to reinstall inventor, no go.
Is there a way without deleting the part from the assembly to make said part not show up in the drawing? I need to be able to do this in the model and not in the drawing. Suppressing the part create a level of detail, but I would have to create new views in the drawing and I don't want to do that.
The part is used in some cases, but not in others so I don't want to delete it from the assembly.
I set up default tolerances in my part and would like to have them displayed in the drawing. I used the "Retrieve Dimensions" tool but they aren't showing up. I have the Tolerance Method set to Default.
I am using inventor 2010 sp1. I have a content center part that I want to replace the family template. I am having problems doing so on random components. Sometimes it lets me and sometimes not. I cannot pinpoint any differences or irregularities between the different library parts.
I am recieving the message indicating..."Import Part Invalid"
Here is my process
Open from content center and save to another folder with or without the same name. Open Content Editor right click and replace family template Recieve this message. "Import Part Invalid"
In solidworks, if I have several similar parts to draw, I can draw one part and annotate it and then to save time and effort I can save the drawing as one of the other parts and then change the part reference in the drawing as I open it up.
What would be best work flow for showing a part and having drawing for the different stages of machining, I would like to have a print with different sheets at say a lathe stage, than a broached part stage, then a milled stage. Should I do a part for each stage, just save to a different name or Start with a part from the first op, than derive it to another part, and make that part complete on second op, than derive it and make a third part, and so on.
Would like to do this, because we make special shaped part from round stock, so need print's to tell floor people rough blank form. Than mills machine it into final form from that lathe blank.
I am trying to move a component within a part drawing, not an assembly. When I do "move bodies" it wants to move every extrusion within my drawing. If I click move face, then I have to click every face that I want to move (which is time consuming) and then it often times doesn't work? Sometime it works other times it just moves the origin indicator and doesn't move the faces I have selected.
I am using Inventor 2010 and would like each view of a drawing to show a different machining step. I.e.. A rough cut dimension and then the finish cut dimension. Is it possible to create the part as it would be machined and then use the EOP marker to set each view. Would like to model one part and get all views.
Is it possible to update an existing drawing to reference a new part or assembly file while maintaining associated views and possibly the annotation also?
I have tasks which require frequent subtle changes to assemblies. These assemblies will then be given a completely new file name, so it is no longer just a revision change but a new part altogether.
Is it possible to get the "actual" calculated area of the face of a part from a drawing view? I looked at the drawing view object in the api but didn't find what I was looking for. What my goal is, I want to calculate the actual square foot of this piece and then subtract it from the overall square foot so I can calculate waste. Perimeter's of pieces can be in multiple forms, radial, straight or a combination of the two. See image below.
I am currently working on a product where I want to make 2 part lists in my drawing of the same assembly. The first parts list has to view all the parts that are always delivered with our product, and the second one has to show the optional parts and features that could be delivered with the product.
I want both lists to be categorized the same way (comments, material, name), I want the numbers of the list to be chronological (also I don't want the second parts list to start the numbering at 1) and I want both lists to stay connected with their balloons.
Is there any way this can be done, like adding or removing part links to the list manually?
Using the 'Run Other' rule I can run a rule to switch holes on & off in a part. The rule is in the part & the run other rule in the drawing. The drawing will only update once the part is open. I would like to see the part open when the rule is ran from the drawing, how can this be done?
If you've had to use different design view representation of the same PART on a drawing in multiple Views at the same time, you already know that whenever you suppress completly a feature, the representation loose the condition stated in the model view and if the suppressed feature is reactivated, it then appear in all view. You have to right-click on the view and select "Apply design View" to reset it, or re-select the design view representation in "Edit view".
Recently I faced a case where i had to build a iLogic multi-body part representing a crate made of either sheet or bar, with a removable top and variable solid for top, sidewall and base, driven trought a in-drawing form! Reason being the customer wanted a easy, useable model for the shipping clerk to generate a custom crate drawing for the crate contractor, therefore freeing precious time for the drafting departement. Usually I would have used occurence visibillity from a assembly, but the document management part of the deal, was too much for the computer illiterate user... So, off i went creating a multi-body part, only to face the aforemention problem with view changing representation due to complete solid suppression.
So here's How-to Set representation view for part in drawing:
The trick is to set every view to it's representation by using the edit window interface code.
The iLogic line to set a View to a specific Design View Representation:
I use this code in "IF" statement. You must repete the code for each view, removing the "Raster" line force a raster only reaction on the view, and the update must be placed after each view, otherwise it only update the last one.
Example: If TYPE_COUVERCLE = "AUCUN" Then
ActiveSheet.View("2").View.Suppressed = TrueActiveSheet.View("1").View.SetDesignViewRepresentation("View5", False)ActiveSheet.View("1").View.IsRasterView = FalseThisApplication.ActiveView.Update()ActiveSheet.View("3").View.SetDesignViewRepresentation("View2", False)ActiveSheet.View("3").View.IsRasterView = FalseThisApplication.ActiveView.Update()ActiveSheet.View("4").View.SetDesignViewRepresentation("View1", False)ActiveSheet.View("4").View.IsRasterView = FalseThisApplication.ActiveView.Update() Else If TYPE_COUVERCLE = "CONTREPLAQUÉ" Then
[Code]...
I'm telling the model that the disapearing element "TYPE_COUVERCLE" is driving the representation, only when it change does it fix the view, regenerating or changing the Design View Representation (the TYPE_SIDE and TYPE_BOTTOM are always active or always suppressed in their respectives views, therefore not influencing their respective appearance in other view). If you had multiple dissapearing solid or feature you would have to build a similar code for every one of them...
