AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Elements (Reference To Non-existing Geometry)

Jun 11, 2013

I have an iCopy solution that when resized smaller than the master some frame members no longer reference existing geometry (and aren't needed).

Is there a way to delete these with an iLogic rule? Curtis has a neat solution for sick constraints, I was hoping to use the same type of rule, but I'm at a loss as to how to reference the frame elements.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Reference Geometry In Assembly Drawings

Dec 6, 2011

We have some serious problems by creating assembly drawings with reference geometries in inventor 2010. Our target is, to create a drawing that look the way, the attachment shows (Picture-1) The sheet metal plates Pos 10-100 are an assembly. And the assembly in the back is the reference geometry. It’s a frame consists of steel sections. What we want: 1. The frame must be phantom lined in the idw. 2.

The Sheet Metal parts must be thick lined. 3. The Partslist of the Assembly should only contain the sheet metal parts and not the frame We have some ideas to solve this case, but each of them is nor perfect (please see the attachment Box.pdf) And there’s another problem (described in part 3 of attachment), we cannot position viewports or drawing elements to each other exactly. You have no possibility to give them dependencies. Also if you want to position symbols to each other. All of them are only near to be exact, but that’s a big problem. If you change contents of a viewport, another should be aligned to it, but that doesn’t work.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Reference To Original Sketch When Projecting Geometry

Apr 10, 2012

In an assembly document, if you want to project a sketch from one part into another, you go through these steps:

- select the part

- edit the part

- create a 2D sketch

- select the plane

- select project geometry

- select the sketch in the other part

- finish sketch

This creates a reference to the original sketch, so if I move the original sketch the new sketch will also move when I hit Assemble.

I am trying to do the same through the API, so I create a proxy for the original sketch and a proxy for the new sketch. I then use the AddByProjectingEntity method on the new sketch proxy passing the original sketch proxy.

This works for projecting the sketch, but it doesn't create the reference, so if I move the original sketch the new one doesn't move, even if I hit Assemble. How to create this link between the two sketches?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cannot Constrain Or Dimension Reference Or Fixed Geometry

Jul 27, 2006

I've come across this many times now. When in an assembly, I create a sketch. I then try to project geometry and I will sometimes get this error:

"Cannot constrain or dimension reference or fixed geometry."

why I can't project edges/faces/points of certain parts?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Reference Parts Geometry On Detailed Drawings

Jun 17, 2012

How can you force the geometry of reference parts to print behind to print behind your visible  parts. I have my reference parts print out on a light gray layer to be shown indistinct on a drawings, but it prints over my object lines in effect hiding them. This is even true if a reference part is hidden. Then hidden line will print over the object lines as well.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IPart Dimension To Unresolved Reference Geometry

Sep 2, 2009

I am having trouble with Iparts getting a red cross due to dimensions and constraints to unresolved reference geometry. If, for example, I have Hole 2 dimensioned from Hole 1 in one member and in another member I suppress Hole 1 and Hole 2 I get an error stating (correctly) that the sketch for Hole 2 has a "Dimension to unresolved reference geometry". I understand why I should get this error if Hole 2 was unsuppressed and Hole 1 was suppressed but why do I get this error when they are both suppressed.

If I get this error on a member that has these two holes suppressed and I switch back to a member that has them both active the error dissapears. I guess in the end this is a question for Autodesk. Can you set up Iparts so that when a feature is suppressed Inventor completely ignores it instead of still trying to resolve it. This functionality is a major headache for us because we don't want to leave models with the Red Cross on but if we want to dimension our features appropriately (ie referencing other, related features) we have to leave a model with errors in it.

See attached part. If you switch within the first 2 members there are no errors, if you move into the last 2 members you will see the cross highlight.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Project Geometry To Locate All Holes In The Frame Into Cover

Mar 20, 2013

Using Inventor 2012 SP2

Have been using Inventor for 6 months or so after being on Solidowrks for many years.

With the settings I have from the start I have been avoiding using adaptivity because it causes more problems than it seems to fix. Just ran into this problem a few minutes ago.

Basic rect angle iron frame, put holes in them for fasteners. Created the cover and constrained it to the frame assembly. Used project geometry to locate all the holes in the frame onto the cover. Use the "Hole" feature and everything is good with the world.

Then changed the side pc of the frame, shortened it by 1.25 inches. Would not update until I deleted the cover and the fasteners. Even then I had to go thru all the constraints I used, edit them back to the number I had used. Once I did all that the frame was the correct size.

I must be missing something serious, it has to be easier than this to use adaptive parts.

AutoCAD Inventor :: When Detailing Generated Frame View Shows Elongated Frame Members

Jul 26, 2012

I come across this problem from time to time and generally either just ignore it, if the detail is destined for in house manufacture, or alter it in autocad if it's destined for exterior suppliers.

Our guard frames are manufactured from extruded aluminum section (made by a company called palletti) I have when needed created a new frame generator frame member for each new x-section that we wish to use. I then draw a 2d sketch for the base frame skeleton and then a 3d sketch for all the frame work above. This I then use in an assembly to create the framework.  This framework assembly then goes into a second assembly where the framework is then adorned with all the accoutrements that make up a guard frame that we can then order as an assembled frame, panels feet, hinges et al.

When placing the views for the detailing of the second assembly sometimes the view will show the wrong length for one or some of the frame members.

;note how the left and right views are different and how some of the frame members are elongated on the lh view.

I'm guessing its because of the home grown frame members but all seems to work well other wise and this only happens infrequently.

GIMP :: Background Layer For Each Frame Of Existing Animation

Mar 24, 2012

I have a five-frame animation to which I would like to add a background and I don't have enough GIMP knowledge to do it myself, so I've been trying to use the merge-anim script (URL...). When I use it under Debian Linux, with GIMP 2.6.10 (I have also tried it with GIMP 2.6.11 under Windows 7) however, it gives two error messages.

The first is "Plug-In 'Merge layer with others' left image undo in inconsistent state, closing open undo groups."

The second is "Error while executing script-fu-merge-anim: Error: not enough arguments."

The merge never does occur. The script doesn't have any real instructions and I haven't seen any anywhere else (just a number of example results that don't show the steps take), so my first attempt was with all the default values that came up and then other attempts were with changes to various options. None of them made any difference. The error messages were always the same and the script-fu console did not show any messages.

Do any of you know if this script, as old as it is, even still works with GIMP 2.6.10, or is it just a completely dead project that would only work with older versions of GIMP?

If it SHOULD work with GIMP 2.6.10 for Linux or GIMP 2.6.11 for Windows, what I should do to fix these errors and get it to work properly.

If there's no hope for the script, how DO I make a "background" layer the background for each frame of an existing animation. Also, if it makes any difference, the background I'm trying to use is a gradient created by GIMP.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Import 2D DWG As Construction Geometry?

Dec 17, 2011

Currently I save all my 2D DWGs as IGES files and then import the files into Inventor. That converts all the geometry to Construction Wires in an IPT, which means MUCH improved performance (you don't have to wait for Inventor to convert every single entity in the DWG to a Sketch entity). I then start a new Sketch and Project those lines that I need from the Construction Wires.

Is there a way to do this directly (convert to Construction Wires) with a DWG, without having to save as an IGES file first?
