GIMP :: Background Layer For Each Frame Of Existing Animation
Mar 24, 2012
I have a five-frame animation to which I would like to add a background and I don't have enough GIMP knowledge to do it myself, so I've been trying to use the merge-anim script (URL...). When I use it under Debian Linux, with GIMP 2.6.10 (I have also tried it with GIMP 2.6.11 under Windows 7) however, it gives two error messages.
The first is "Plug-In 'Merge layer with others' left image undo in inconsistent state, closing open undo groups."
The second is "Error while executing script-fu-merge-anim: Error: not enough arguments."
The merge never does occur. The script doesn't have any real instructions and I haven't seen any anywhere else (just a number of example results that don't show the steps take), so my first attempt was with all the default values that came up and then other attempts were with changes to various options. None of them made any difference. The error messages were always the same and the script-fu console did not show any messages.
Do any of you know if this script, as old as it is, even still works with GIMP 2.6.10, or is it just a completely dead project that would only work with older versions of GIMP?
If it SHOULD work with GIMP 2.6.10 for Linux or GIMP 2.6.11 for Windows, what I should do to fix these errors and get it to work properly.
If there's no hope for the script, how DO I make a "background" layer the background for each frame of an existing animation. Also, if it makes any difference, the background I'm trying to use is a gradient created by GIMP.
I'd like to be to select a layer groups and copy them over to another pre-existing image.
I've been struggling with this for an hour or so, and I haven't found a way to do this.
Is is possible to do this in GIMP?
The closet I've found is a kind of paste where you do this: drag the tab of the origin image over to the tab of the target image. The result is a new layer in the target image called "dropped buffer". However, the entire origin image is imported flattened.
I've been trying other drag and drop operations, but without success. Usually when I drop the selection to the target image, the icon under the mouse dissapears, and nothing actually happens.
I thought this might be a window manager problem. But I get the same results across kde, gnome and xfce.
I keep trying to save a gif animation with one frame per layer but that is not working!! it still is combining all the layers in the animation even though I tell it one frame per layer!
I have a simple gif of two layers, both with transparent backgrounds. When I add the layers and animate the gif it shows both layers. Can't I just make only 1 layer display at a time with its transparency without seeing the other one behind?
I create animated gifs frequently using the Frame Animation pallet. The default frame rate starts out as 10 seconds, so I always have to change it to 4 seconds. Is there anyway to reset the default frame rate that I start out with to 4 seconds, so that I don't have to change it every time?
Preferences did not yield any promising menus
I know the standard default reset with many Adobe products is to change it without a document open, but in PS CS5.5 if you do not have a document open the frame rate option is greyed out ______________ CS5.5 MacPro Tower Mac OS 10.8.2
I've created a picture with a layer of lava underneath a stone wall which is visible through some of the cracks in the stone. I'm looking to use the rippling animation on ONLY the lava layer while keeping the rest of the layers, i.e. shadows, drop shadow, background, etc. in tact.
Is this possible? I tried several different ways but couldn't make it work. So in other words, I'm only trying to animate only one layer.
when i make a new project it says what size you want it to be set on. i want it to be set on a standard size of printing paper. so i measured a printer paper and put in the details as millimeters in the box and set the size to 100 but when i hold up a paper to the screen its not the same size its much smaller. How would i make it actual size of the paper? (8.5x11) and if it does not print the actual size how could i make it so when i print it it does not make it bigger or smaller to fit on page or whatever. I know this is very basic but its been bugging me forever and i need it to print the exact size.
I want to key frame animate something to go in a straight line but it seems to start out slowly, speed up, and then slow down again at the end. Is there a way to make it so the object moves the same speed throughout?
I would like to insert a photo layer within a background? For example I have a background that has two individuals in it. I would like to insert a photo of another individual between them from a seperate photo.
I'm creating a drawing with multiple layers, but I keep dragging the background layer by accident. I've tried selecting the layer I want to move before dragging with the move tool, but this doesn't stop it. I've tried selecting the chain in the layers toolbox, but this just locks the layers into one group which gets dragged off the edge of the canvas. Is there any way to render the background stationary?
A while ago, I wanted to add a border in the background color around a layer. So, I increase Layer Boundary Size using the corresponding tool. So far so good. I even wrote into a script, combined with adding drop shadow, see [URL].......
Then, I bought a new computer. I knew it. Never update or upgrade.
Now, when I increase the layer boundary size, it does increase the size of the layer, but the "border" is now transparent. I know, I know, I can fill it up using the bucket fill tool, but first of all this is annoying, and second of all, I am really wondering: what happened? Why did it work before, and doesn't it work now anymore? I am baffled. I see three possibilities:
- The GIMP installation on my new computer has some global setting differently which I am missing - GIMP was updated and this has changed - this is a bug, or at least a quirk, having something to do with old computer running on Win7 and new computer running on Win8
I'd like to do some animation in photoshop, especially frame to frame animation. (such as editing images from stop motion)
But I'd like to import big quantities of images to a psd file, and which each image would automatically be imported to 1 different layer. Is it possible to do that?
The photos are fairly too high resolution to export as video (3456x 2034) so i don't want to make a video out of them and import the video sequence...
I have 2 layers and I want to mask one through the other. I've attached a png showing what I want. I tried to attach an .xcf file, but it won't do it, which seems strange for a gimp forum. Anyway, one layer is the text (black outline) and one layer is a colorful background. In the xcf, the background layer is entirely filled with the colorful stuff, but I want it to only show through the interior of the letters (as shown in the png).

I recently lost a pet and want to use a photo of her as a tribute. What I'd like to do is to crop a heart shape of her face and layer that into a white background. The question I have is: how on earth do you draw a perfect heart using the lasso?
With Gimp 2.8 (Mac) I have made a 3D text with a YouTube tutorial. It looks like the Pulp Fiction logo. [URL]...........
How do I overlay a grungy texture, so the letters look 'older'?I tried making the texture image the top layer in the list on the right and then this: right click -> layer -> transparency -> color to alpha. But then, the 'see-through' texture covers the entire square transparent background! Not just the letters...So, how do I add a transparent texture layer over a shaped image that has a transparent background?
I am trying to synch several biped characters to an HD background video I have placed in the environment slot. The problem is that when I scrub the animation slider or hit the play button, Max cannot play the background video in real time. When I hit play, the video remains frozen on whatever frame it was last on, but then updates to the correct frame when I hit the stop button.
It is pretty difficult to get the timing right on the foreground biped animation without a real time background reference. I also tried a lower res version of the background video (standard 720 x 480 DV), but that also does not play in real time. Is there any way to get max to play the background video in sync i.e., updating the frames in real time? Is there a way to improve max performance (ideal settings?)for a background video? Would a Tiff sequence play quicker than a .mpg or .mov files? If so how do set up an .ifl for playing an image sequence?
I know that if I make a selection I can press Ctrl + J to promote that selection to a new layer. Is there a way to promote the layer but leave the focus on the existing layer?
What would be the absolute icing on the cake would be if I could have the focus stay on the existing layer AND for the selection that has just been promoted to be de-selected.
I have an iCopy solution that when resized smaller than the master some frame members no longer reference existing geometry (and aren't needed).
Is there a way to delete these with an iLogic rule? Curtis has a neat solution for sick constraints, I was hoping to use the same type of rule, but I'm at a loss as to how to reference the frame elements.
My current scene has 10 animation layers for a character, and seeing every f-curve from all layers, although grey and locked, when I only need to see the f-curves in layer I'm working on is really cluttering the graph editor. My current work around is selecting my active layer in the Layer Editor every time I select a rig control. Simple enough, but a pretty inefficient way of working. I can't seem to find a setting that allows me to just see ONLY the fcurves in the active layer. I imagine some of you out there may have hundreds of animations for a single game character.
I have an assignment for a class where part of the final project is detailing the construction of a mold for a part. The animation that I would like to do would show the build up of the part in a 3D printer layer by layer. The closest method of animating this that I can think of is unfortunately backwards.
As I would have the part and a camera facing up from the bottom of the part and would have a plane that would recede upwards in the y direction. This would reveal the part as the plane translates in the y direction.
This might be okay, but the problem is that I would like to show this from a camera on top facing down instead of a camera on bottom facing up. How I can create the look of a part being built up in this additive method?
I have a black and white image I want to use this layer as a transparency/opacity mask to another layer of the same dimensions. Is it possible to import the existing black and white image as the layer mask as opposed to manually painting in the mask?
Let's say that I make a nice volume of clouds, then just freeze it in a particularly good state. How do I go about it to reference that particular frame (only one cache file) across the entire animation?
I just downloaded a trial for 3Ds Max 2014, and am now trying to render an animation. My problem occurs when the first frame has been rendered. It just stops there.I can close everything except the rendering window, where the "total animation" is empty but "current task" is full.
Why it just stops rendering?I have set the render setup for a specific range and set it to save the animation as an avi file.
I have a jpeg sequence of 165 frames in my psd animation. Upon export (as an .mov file), I need to keep frames 1-29 and 80-165 as is, but speed up frames 30-79. How can achieve this in PS CS4?
I have tried exporting each of the clips individually and then brought them into i Movie to speed up the middle portion and subsequently re-piece them all together. This works great, but I am not familiar enough with i Movie or Premiere Pro to export the file properly; it seems to not allow me to export it with the same specs (mainly size, 1280x1024 at 30fps) as my source files.
