AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawing Logarithmic Spiral / Projecting On A Sphere
Sep 19, 2011
I need a path on a sphere like on the image I attached (sphere_spiral) for the result similar to image called "gomb". The only problem, metric spiral or coil / 3d helical curve path won't work because it doesn't end the result I need, because the lines are converging each other. So, I figured out I need a logarithmic spiral 2D sketch or maybe a sinusoidal path.
I need a path from the sphere's top center point to the bottom center point, projected to its surface with equal distance of lines.

What are the parameters for a parametric 3D Equation Curve to create a path for a coil similar to that in the attached image?
Or alternatively tell me how I can produce the coil in some other way!

I m trying to draw some stairs but really struggling in even finding a place to start. Basically I have a large cylinder which an access platform, I need to put some stairs to it as per the as fitted drawing which is lacking in info to say the least. I know the diameter of the tank, and the length of the stairs as the leave the platfor to the ground. I also know the floor elevation height, just not got a clue where to start.
Forgot to mention the angine of the spiral staircase in 40degrees.

I have the attached drawing of spiral bevel gears; MBSG2-2040L.dwg
it has been taken from this site [URL]
how do I transform it into a 3d structure from that 2d drawing? is all the needed information comprised in it? I can not figure out the shape of the teeth. There is also a 3d version of the gears for autodesk inventor; is there a way I could transform that into an autocad 2011 compatible version (I don't know much about autodesk inventor ).

In an assembly document, if you want to project a sketch from one part into another, you go through these steps:
- select the part
- edit the part
- create a 2D sketch
- select the plane
- select project geometry
- select the sketch in the other part
- finish sketch
This creates a reference to the original sketch, so if I move the original sketch the new sketch will also move when I hit Assemble.
I am trying to do the same through the API, so I create a proxy for the original sketch and a proxy for the new sketch. I then use the AddByProjectingEntity method on the new sketch proxy passing the original sketch proxy.
This works for projecting the sketch, but it doesn't create the reference, so if I move the original sketch the new one doesn't move, even if I hit Assemble. How to create this link between the two sketches?

I'm trying to project an edge of a cylinder in a "detail" view. Here's the process I'm taking. Click the view and pick "create sketch", then I pick "Project Geometry". Then I pick the edges of the cylinder I'd like to project and it only projects one side. I can select the edge, but when I right-click and pick done it won't project it. It appears to me that it's only allowing one edge of the same object to be projected. I've tested other objects and it seems to only do this with cylinders.
Is this a setting or a bug in 2012?

I have drawn an assembly of parts and now wish to line up the small hole in the large shell to the projecting pipe,i thought it would be a simple task of using mates (insert aligned) but this does not let me pick on the boundary of the small hole.

I'm trying to flatten a section of sheet metal so i can get a cut lenth for my fab shop. Please see attached drawing. I want to use these dimensions, and then flatten the part so my fab shop can trace it and cut the sections, bend them and weld together, but when i use the flatten command, nothing happens..

Is there a way to use the coil command to make a spiral out of a rectangle where the thickness of the rectangle starts at one value and ends at another? This would be a spiral torsion spring with decreasing thickness approaching the center.

I have a tube which I'm adding a pocket to the outside by removing some material. I then need to array that around the tube. However I need to offset each pocket along the length of the tube. I've attached the tube with one pocket (v2013) and a picture showing the pattern if the surface of the tube was unwraped.

what the 2D or 3D equation curve for a parabolic spiral, otherwise known as a Fermat's spiral would be? I have found this info but do not know how to apply it:
Fermat equation
Therefore in terms of the affine plane its equation is
The Fermat curve is non-singular and has genus
I have also found this: $r^{2}=a^{2} heta $
Please see image attached.

I have a sphere which I'm able to project on a sketch of smaller circles which I'd like to engrave over it's surface, yet I want each of them to be perpendicular to the surface of the sphere in each point. Emboss doesn't do the trick, it just makes the engraving perpendicular to the plane.

I'm trying to draw a spiral bevel gears system KLINGELNBERG , but the results do not match the actual measurements of the piece.
ex. measure of the real outside diameter of the gear = 356mm
DATA :
number of teeth pinion = 9
number of teeth gear = 44
module = 5
shaft angle = 90 °
face width = 59mm
helix angle = 35 °
pressure angle = 20 °

I've been attempting to create a sphere with an Earth texture, for which I've made a custom appearance with a flattened picture of earth. Instead of wrapping to the sphere, however, the image is mirrored on both sides of the sphere and extremely distorted. I knew wrapping 2D geometry to a sphere was not strictly possible, but is there no way to pull it off with an image?
If not, would something like this be possible in 3DS max?

When I query the EdgeLoop of sphere for Outer edge loop using function InvEdgeLoopPtr::GetIsOuterEdgeLoop(), I always get a value of VARIANT_TRUE. check for the inner and outer loop of a sphere? use the attached file for reference.

I have a funnel with a curved top. I'm trying to project an inset of the border onto the curved surface and use the shell command to create a hollow funnel with an overhanging lip. I have projected the inset successfully, but cannot select the resulting smaller face, just the whole original face.
A similar problem that I tried while attempting to figure this out was shelling a sphere. 2d sketch -> 3d sketch project onto surface, and try applying shell to the resulting "face". However I can only select the whole face when trying to shell.

Is there a way to unfold a coil shape to get the flat pattern? When I try to unfold the attached part I get an error message (see attached error_msg.jpg). We have been using AutoPOL to unfold these kind of shapes (which works fine). But since we have a very old version which we really need to upgrade, I was wondering if nowadays Inventor could handle coil unfolds.
If this will not work with the current IV2013 release, will this then be implemented in a future release? Are there any alternatives or should I just go for the AutoPOL upgrade?

It is all about making a spiral shaped pattern of parts around an axle.
what I found in a topic is:
1.Make pattern of workpoints in part file.
2.Make pattern of components in assembly file to follow part pattern.
1st part is easy and done with coil and pattern within the ipt
2nd part does not let me select the workpoints as feature pattern.

I'm looking to use Inventor Studio to render a model, using an image sphere (e.g. Stuttgart Courtyard) as the background.
I cannot find the installed location for these images, so even if it is the active view, Inventor will not allow me to render it, and I cannot manually select the file as my image sphere.
Also, are additional such image spheres available for download?

I have a circle which is rotated 45 degree around the X-axis. If you look at it from the top (normal=0,0,1) it will look like an ellipse.
I want to draw a new entity (ELLIPSE) that will have the same shape/look as the circle viewed from the top, but the whole entity must have z=0.
Basically, exactly what the command FLATTEN does.
Is there a way to do this easily? Or is the only way to figure out the math behind it?
