View 8 RepliesI am trying to put a deck layout decal onto a surface. When selecting the decal command, inventor will only allow me to select the bottom surface and not the top one where I want the decal. is this achievable.
I can do it by flipping the normal and putting on a mirrored image for my decal but that seems like a lot of work
if you create a new part with a cube, sketch onto one of the surfaces and add an image, the decal will only attach to one of the availiable 2 surfaces
I have an elevation which requires stone panels to be installed. The elevation was created in a single part using the multi-body method. Photographs were taken of the stone slab and modified, it was turned into a BMP with a low res. of about 75. (Tried to keep everything small). As I begin to apply the texture of the stone with the decal method (due to proper positioning and scale size) Inventor starts to run very slow and pauses (Not Responding). The more decals I apply the more it stop working. I don't understand why this process is utilizing 7 GB of ram.

We use decals on some of our parts, but every time someone opens a part or an assembly with one of these parts, it wants to be updated. This only happens with parts that have decals on them. We use Vault and the constant updating of these parts is a pain, considering these parts have not been changed...
the .bmp is in the project workspace and vaulted. The link shows as resolved... MS Paint is the default editor...so what needs to be updated? Is there any way to tell what it wants to update?
After checking it out and updating only the .ipt is modified the .bmp that resides in the 3rd Party folder is unchanged. What am I missing?

I have autodesk inventor 2012 and I'm building an assembly of an air compressor. One big part is coloured yellow and has on both sides decals with an image on them.
When I open my assembly file, the part is there in my assembly but it is coloured gray and no decals are visible, if I open the part with the decals it shows perfectly, So if I use replace and put the original file back in there, it's fixed, until I close and reopen the assembly ! Again the part is other colour and no decals visible ...
Have tried to delete and place the decals again, no difference...What do I have to do ?
I have some Inventor models with decals applied in Inventor. However, when these models are imported into Showcase, the decals are missing.
I just can't find any info about this in Showcase or on Google.
I'm using Autodesk Inventor Pro 2013.
I have a middle complexity model, with several decals (,jpg, Using Mask), projected to different parts. When I start Studio, and start rendering, Inventor hangs. The render window opens, but it freezes on Translating and soon both of the windows are not answering. I've checked th CPU. Inventor uses around 1G of ram, during regular use. When I start rendering, slowly it goes up around 5,5G, and eventually the Windows freezes. Rendering the same model without a decal works fine.
I've installed all the Windows updates, and the Inv2013 1.1 Service Pack. Nothing worked.

When I link in an excel document to my model all parameters in that excel gets the unit (mm).
How can I change this? For instance I want some of the parameters to be an angle.
Recently I have been trying to build table driven products and ipart tables, but when I copy a member to create a new part number, upon exiting the iassembly author I get the following message "excel installation is required for this operation. failed to launch excel". I have a fully functional version of 2010 Excel installed which has been used so it should be recognized in the windows registry. I am running Windows 8 and Autodesk Inventor 2014.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI would like to create transparent graphics for window decals which should remain transparent after being printed on foil. By transparent I mean see-through, e.g. a set of light grey lines that you could actually see through.I am NOT asking how to create graphics with no white background, I would like the actual grey line to be semi see-through. Is this as simple as changing the opacity settings and is it something that is even design related or it is something that is done during the printing process itself?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have AutoCAD 2013 and often "paste special" excel files that automatically update when the excel file changes.The problem I'm running into is I work with a person who has uses an older version of CAD 2004, so I always save to the older format for him.
When I etransmit, I be sure to add the excel file, but when he opens the dwg, only the outline of the excel appears in his dwg, no content.
way to create an outline contour cut for decals? Iv'e been doing this for years and it's been a headache. I have the graphic/text, duplicate it with a thick outline. Say .25". Then Convert Outline To Object. The problem I have is that if it's a complexe graphic or line of text, a number (sometimes a large number) of the nodes are broken and I have to join them. And CD sometimes adds way too many nodes. So I have to spend a long time deleting unnessesary nodes to clean it up.
Iv'e had people suggest to use the Arrange, Shaping, Boundery function. But that doesn't allow me to make the boundery any further away from the art.
I am linking a model to an excel spreadsheet. Normally you would specify what cell on the first sheet (Sheet1) to start in. I have been told that you can link to other sheets in the workbook as well. Is this possible? I have tried, but have not been successful. If it is possible, how is it done?

I can get coordinates manualy (right click on sub assembly - iProperties-Phisical), but it is take a lots of time.

I created an assembly, so far with one part in it. I created an Excel spreadsheet with several dimensions in it that would be used in the assembly parts. I went to Manage>Parameters and linked the spreadsheet. The Excel file appeared in the Parameter Dialog Box with the parameters included in it. However, when I create a part in the assembly and attempt to dimension a sketch in it, the parameters option in the dimension box is not present.
I have done this in the past in IV2009, has anything changed that I cannot do so in 2010?
How do I get a BOM exported from my assembly into Excel? The only option I have is export as XML format which is useless to me.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAs my Inventor endeavors continue, I would like to take a template of a part I made and use Excel to change the parts dimensions. Essentially make it so if we need a 20 Tonne Lift Lug, I just punch in the necessary values in Excel and have the part update.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a program to export the Assembly BOM to Excel. I am running into a some strange behavior regarding Weldments and Inseparable assemblies. Here is a snippet of my
'Create BOM Object
Dim oBom As Inventor.BOM
oBom = oAssyDoc.ComponentDefinition.BOM
oBom.StructuredViewEnabled = True
oBom.StructuredViewDelimiter = "."

I run into the issue of the items inside a Weldmant assembly is not being exported. Yet I am able to create a structured multilevel partslist on my drawing showing all the items inside the Weldment.
Whats strange is that even if I change the Weldment assy’s BOM structure to Normal, it still does not make a difference. Is there a way to get the items of a Weldment into my BOM Rows object so that it will export? Whats strange is that if an assembly is set to “Inseparable” but is not a weldment then it exports the contents.
I link an excel spreadsheet of text into my .idw files and I constantly have this issue where the text is crowded (see attached). I've tried changing the font, etc. but nothing seems to work. Every once in a while if I move the linked sheet within the .idw it corrects itself.
I'm using Inventor 2012.

I have an assembly that I have created a sketch on and applied some dimensions. I would like to send those properties to an excel file that can then be inserted into an idw. What is the best way to get the parameter values into an excel file that would update as the model changes? I found were more focused on changing the model with the excel sheet which is not what I'm trying to do. I did try them however, but whether I clicked link or embed nothing appeared in the excel file at all.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are using Inventor 2011 EN + Vault 2011 EN Basic on XP Pro SP3 DELL Workstations.
Step 1 : In our IDW files, we copy/paste as embedded OLE Objects (no link). And save the IDW files in our local workspace.
Step 2 : we check-in this IDW Files.
Step 3 : We check-out this IDW files and make modifications in the embedded Excel File, save the excel file and then save the IDW file.
Step 4 : we check-in the idw file.
Step 5 : the same user or anther one check-out the idw file, open the excel embedded file : the modifications have not been saved.
The excel file is the same that at step 2.
Is it possible to use iLogic to insert a row into excel?
View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to figure out the best method to insert an IDW into an Excel spreadsheet without sacrificing quality. I have tried several methods to go straight from Inventor(2012) to Excel(2010) using print PDF at press quality, export JPEG, and even the snipping tool as a last ditch effort all of which inevitably loose all line quality when inserted to Excel.
I have only had success bringing a PDF from Inventor into Adobe InDesign where I am able to mimic the design of my Excel spreadsheet and create an additional PDF to include with the Excel document. It seems like there would be an easier way for Inventor and Excel to work together without sacrificing quality or adding additional steps.
I know that to design for example a 3d curve i have to import a XYZ data points from excel. What if i wanna link these points from excel to Inventors curve? Everytime i change the excel file i want my curve to be updated.

I'm trying to export parameters for my parts to an excel sheet, this way to be able easily to edit any of these. So far :
1. exported parameters as xml.file and opened it in my excel sheet.
2. saved this sheet as xls.file on my desktop and linked (embed) parameters to this file.
- value column is formatted as text.
- any update to value column should immediatly change (after save and close worksheet?) parameters in inventor ?
