How to make the nut in this assembly turn with the thread, all I can figure out how to do is put it all the way in then turn it 360 degrees.

I have modeled up a nut and bolt.
1. Have i matched the thread size correctly.I made the bolt thread the same size as the nut thread size
2. I see these in the Content centre but if i want to make my own nuts & bolts with various sizes.I can then just select the required sizes
3. How do you name your nuts & bolts.
I created an assembly with screws and nuts which are not from content center. When creating a section view on Drawing, screws and nuts are also sectioned, but I don't want to.
Is it possible to see entire screws and nuts in a section view?
We just upgraded from Inventor 2012 to 2014. When placing nuts and bolts in an assembly in 2012, you were able to select a hole and it would automatically size the bolt to the correct diameter. You could also select if you wanted it to fill in all holes of that size, on a face, with the bolt or you could just place one component.
I do not remember if it is just a setting that allows it that i can't find or if it is a bug and the drop function is not working properly, is there anything special that i need to do?
What's the best way to populate the studs and nuts on a flanged connection in tube/pipe? Can studs be added to the bolted connection content?

In the image below, I need the C channel that the bolts are going through to section but not the nuts and bolts. In application options I have "Section standard parts" set to "Obey browser settings". In the part "document settings" I have the "participate in assembly and drawing sections" option checked, but the C channel will not section and when I right click on it in the drawing browser, the "Section participation" options are greyed out.
View 3 Replies View Related(Inv Pro 2012, XP64, Vaulted Project and Content Center)When I'm placing hardware, the Autodrop function is really convenient. Even better when the "multiple" pickbox is active, which from what I understand is when Inventor finds similar features on the same plane that the selected autodrop component could potentially mate to.
This is a huge time-saver, since I often have lots of bolted joints that all terminate on the same plane. Sometimes however, even when the parts lie in the same "plane", the plane isn't contiguous in that a feature breaks it across. No biggie, it just means I have to do two or three "multi-autodrops".
Once I put washers at the back side of the connections (which multiple works like a charm on), all of a sudden when I go to place nuts, each washer surface is now it's own plane, and multi-drop no longer recognizes all the other parts. This can be a real pain manually placing 30 or 40 nuts at a time.
I think the "Bolted Connection" option might work, but I really don't have a need to store all those subassemblies, name them, keep them vaulted properly, etc. That would be almost as much of a headache.
Also, most of the features that I'm connecting through are created as Hole features and as "nominal" oversized bolt holes as Inventor suggests when the "clearance hole" option is used for hole creation (not randomly extruded islands), but they aren't patterned as they don't follow a prescribed circular or rectangular pattern.
Am I missing something that I can do (like something stupid simple such as holding down the "alt" key or some crazy thing like that) that will allow inventor not just to suggest CONTIGUOUS planar features, but also CO-planar features so I can place all these nuts at once?
Short of creating a custom Content center part that consists of a nut / washer assembly I can't think of anything. And creating and publishing the nut washer assemblies will eat up some time too, since I have about 50 different combinations (some SAE washers with normal hex nuts, some SAE washers with ESNA hex, some USS washers with jam nuts, some USS Type B washers with all-steel locknuts, etc...)
I want to take two 3D views from (autodesk) Revit Architecture 2012 to Illustrator CS5 and then make use of the live paint bucket tool*. I've printed the two 3D views into pdf files and imported them in Illustrator**. When I select the whole image in Illustrator and then click with the Live Paint Bucket tool on the drawing to modify the drawing so I can color the surfaces, Illustrator gives me the following error:
"The selection contains objects that cannot be converted. Live Paint groups can only contain paths and compound paths. Clipping paths are not allowed."
Exporting images (jpg, png and tiff) from Revit results in the same error. Is there a way to easily convert my vector drawing into a non-clipping paths drawing? Also I'm not sure if the problem should be found in either Revit or Illustrator. What's also strange is that I'm using a tutorial provided by my university, in which there are no issues with clipping paths or anything.
* This in order to make an conceptual image of my building, which I've modeled in Revit. I want to add basic colors to surfaces in Illustrator and then take the image to Photoshop to add shadow, materials, sky etc.
** They only consist of lines, using the 'hidden line' visual style in my views in Revit, in case you know a bit of Revit.
I am in need of flattened 2D line views of the sides and top of the model shown in the attached 3D file. So far, I have found and tried the FLATSHOT command, but...
"There are no solids or surfaces that can be projected."
So apparently, I'm dealing with the kind of 3D model that FLATSHOT was not intended for. How I can quickly get flattened 2D views of this without eating up my entire workday?

Well I type UNIT in the command prompt and it shows inches. I convert it to feet and remeasure the diameter and it still gives me the same large number! What do I need to change? How many of you use unitless for measuring versus feet or inches?

I am also confused how to use the conversion tool on the QuickCalc in AutoCAD. The "Convert From" and "Convert To" are set to meters. I am not sure WHAT the default unit of measurement is to begin with.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I went to convert my finished CAD drawing into a PDF the text came out blurry, information was missing, and the lines were also blurry and still colored, even though the plot style was set to greyscale. I tried opening the file up on another computer and it still did the same thing. I ended up copying the drawing into a whole new document and messing around with it to get it to finally print to PDF properly, however, I would like to know why this happened and how it can be fixed if it happens again. I have attached an image of the PDF that printed out poorly, and the final proper PDF so you can see what it was supposed to come out as.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI´m trying to write a script to convert all the blocks in a drawing to mass elements and export them to IGES thereafter.
I would like to select everything first. Then launch refedit and select all the blocks.
After that I would like to convert them to mass elements. When saving to IGES I would need to select everything again.
I pieced the following script together, but it fails. I think it is bexause of the request to select objects manually. Could I add a delay which would enable me to select an object?
Also it looks like ACADA is not accepting the "all" command when pselect is called by a script.
