I am having difficulty converting a STP file (made in SW) to a Parasolid Text file for a customer. I was going to post the model to Customer Files, but for some reason I cannot post on there? The file size is roughly 21MB
I've been using 3D PDF Converter to convert my inventor models which have been saved by way of Export - CAD Format - Parasolid Binary Files. The default version is 25. You would think that this new version would be new and improved. However, it does not work.
I'm just started using inventor 2013 (from 2010) & the way colours/materials are applied has completely changed so I'm learning again from scratch.
Here's my issue: A customer has sent a casting to me in Parasolid format. When I open it, all the unmachined surface are blue & look a bit garish. However, the colours of the machined faces are ok & I wish to keep them.
So, I want to chage all the surfaces that are blue - I can use the picker & select all the blue faces seperately (by holding CTRL down & select each face one be one) but this is a pain & takes ages (there are over 200 faces)
I can see & edit the blue color in the manager but how do I tell Inventor to replace all - can it be done?
I have created a new item in content center in my personnel library. When i am creating a new item in content center its creating *.ipt file somewhere ? If so from which location i can open the part file ?
when I'm in a part file and attempting to open the related drawing file by right clicking on the part name at the top of the design tree, the drawing can't be found automatically and I've to find it in the file open dialogue box.
is it possible to write a plug in that runs when a user does something.example. you start inventor and open a assembly file the user selects a part and the plugin automatically runs.no pussing buttons, no quick key, it just runs.
Dear Sir, In particular project, when I insert part in Assembly file, It is inserted as a Tube & Pipe run part. so that It is not Grounded automatically. What is the settings by which I can insert as a normal part in assembly file ? I have attached herewith the JPG file also.
The simple question is… how can we insert a step (stp) part into an existing part file?
The story behind the question is this:
Normally when we get a step file assembly from a customer, if the part has changed, we put our part into Old Versions and save their new step file as our ipt number and replace it in our assembly file. With Vault, in order for us to maintain the history of the part files, we need to keep the original file so we can’t just delete it or replace it, so now we need to figure out how to get a step file into an ipt. The Import command on the Manage tab (with 2013 at least?) does not allow import of stp files just yet.
The only other option I can think of is to put the original part into an assembly with the step file, create a copy of the step information in the part file and use it to recreate the new (step based) part.
I started out with a single 3 dimensional piece i had made using sketches, and split it into two using the split feature under the modify tab. Now I would like to take each of those two pieces and copy them into their own individual part files. I could do this by remaking them, but was wondering if I could simply copy and paste them into separate files.
I had a copy of Inventor 2013; It worked well up untilrecently. I moved some folders on my hard drive, and the program no longer could find the files. I went into options and changed the pathway for any prompt I saw had the former location. Next the part files I am working on are said to be missing. Something about the project location. I tried adding the files through managing the project found in options. Now Inventor says it is unable to open or even recognize the part files saved. How can I recover the files Attached are screenshots of the errors.
Using the 'Run Other' rule I can run a rule to switch holes on & off in a part. The rule is in the part & the run other rule in the drawing. The drawing will only update once the part is open. I would like to see the part open when the rule is ran from the drawing, how can this be done?
I have a problem when I`m creating a new part in assembly.
I`m in assembly and I push a create button. Then I give it a name and OK. Then I push a plane where I want to make the part. New sketch comes but no sketch panel. I have to push right button from mouse and click finish sketch. Then when I go edit sketch the sketch panel comes like it suppose it to be.
using IV2012 within the same project file i have three models. one model i can open parts or assemblies from the browser or right click on the component on the window. the other two models upon the right click or selecting in the browser the open or the edit are not available as an operation.

Does view rep work in part file. I remember few months before some one wrote saying not in part file and it works only in assembly file. Is it still the case. How to turn off few parts in my drawing.
Inventor has the ability to store multiple configurations of a part within the same .ipt File without having to resave the file as a new file. Something like in AutoCAD where you have Model Space and Paper Space within the same drawing.
When I rename a part, the iproperties field under project>part number does not change. If there is a drawing for the part, the part number in the drawing reflects the old part number.
Can I tell inventor to rename the part automatically to the file name as seen in windows explorer? Can I set it to rename automatically in the tree in an assembly environment?
I name my files with our part numbers and the revision number. Our part numbers are 6 to 9 digits long and sometimes start with a zero! My iLogic rule, while simple, drops the first zero if its there. See the "FirstNumbers" below: (I tried to add the CStr(), but now I see that it just changes it to text after it drops the zero!)
ThisFile = ThisDoc.FileName(False) 'without extensionFirstNumbers = CStr(Val(ThisFile)) 'sets the first numbers from the file name to textPartNumber = iProperties.Value("Project", "Part Number") 'reads part number from file
'check to see if the part number is the same as the file name's numbersIf String.Compare(FirstNumbers, PartNumber, True) = 0 Then'do nothingElse
'set the Part Number to the file name's numbersiProperties.Value("Project", "Part Number") = FirstNumbers 'let's me know that something has been doneMessageBox.Show("Part Number has been set to " & FirstNumbers, "Part Number from File Name")End If
I was wondering if there was an option to set Inventor to display the full file path for the current file open ? At present I am only seeing a short description of the name of the active file - I wish to see it's full file path similar to what AutoCAD displays.

is possible to retrieve the information of the reference in the iam file without open the file in session ? Opening with notepad the iam file, at the end of file, the references is contains in the planar text.
Is possible to retrieve documentation for this request ?
I have an assembly of pallet racking, it is one complete frame which can be modified in all the desired ways by the ilogic i have in place. I wish to be able to put this frame into a new assembly but have different dimensions for each frame. I used to do this by copying all the files to a new folder so that each frame had its own parts. This has stopped working and now once one frame is altered all the other frames change to rather than having there own dimensions.
