AutoCAD Inventor :: Open Related Drawing File By Right Clicking On Part Name At Top Of Design Tree
Feb 24, 2013
when I'm in a part file and attempting to open the related drawing file by right clicking on the part name at the top of the design tree, the drawing can't be found automatically and I've to find it in the file open dialogue box.
This just happened to me this morning, I split a part into a multibody part and as soon as I did the split, the entire design tree got greyed out. It doesnt matter if I have only one body visible or both of them, the tree stays greyed out. I can still edit features but its annoying to not know what is on and whats off. I opened a new file mocked up a quick part with various features performed a split and same results.
Is there a way in Inventor to take an assembly feature and basically have it fall out at the part level also? So if you were to open the part up, it would have the cutouts in it.
i wanna use a existent project to make a new one, i copy all the files that I need to a new project, then I use Design Assistant to rename all files, everything works fine this way. I just saw now a little 'problem' that doesn't bother me, but can be a problem to other ppl who open this project and see the difference.
When I rename the file name from Design Assistant (opening it from the top assembly), all the parts get its PART NUMBER updated and all the files are renamed too, but...when i open the assembly, in the Model tree, no parts have the name updated, all keeps the old name, but if i open the part from the model tree, i open the correct part already updated and renamed, so, its just the model tree displays name that are incorrect. Is that known ? Is there a solution ? Or am I doing something wrong to copy or rename files ?
I realized that is happens most when i rename files from a top assembly with subassemblies. Sometimes when i use just one assemblie with just parts inside it, everything goes normal.
I'm trying to write a VBA macro (for Inventor 2010) that would have to work on drawing .idw files that are generated from a given component. So when I have an open assembly document, I want to go through all component occurences and work with the associated drawing.
There's a built in command in Inventor for that, in the context menu, something like "Open drawing" (mine is german, so not sure how it's called in english), which does this. It opens the drawing of the given part. From this I assumed, there must be a reference within each part, that points to the referencing drawing.
But I'm not able to find this information anywhere within the properties/objects of any component.how or where can I get this information out of the components?
Using the 'Run Other' rule I can run a rule to switch holes on & off in a part. The rule is in the part & the run other rule in the drawing. The drawing will only update once the part is open. I would like to see the part open when the rule is ran from the drawing, how can this be done?
I`m working on the code that reads a list of virtual parts from Excel and adds required qty into the assembly. So far it looks good, I just need to know how to create a folder in a Assembly view tree and save virtual part in that folder instead of placing it in the root.
Dim occs As ComponentOccurrences occs = asmDoc.ComponentDefinition.Occurrences Dim identity As Matrixidentity = ThisApplication.TransientGeometry.CreateMatrixDim virtOcc As ComponentOccurrencevirtOcc = occs.AddVirtual(sVirtPart, identity)
I have installed autocad lt 2013 on a pc running windows 8 and I have a problem opening the dwg file. If I open the file dwg to autocad lt I have no problem, but if I try to open the file directly by double clicking on the file, the pogram creshed and appear an error message and the request to send report to autocad. how to riosolverlo?
Is it possible to update an existing drawing to reference a new part or assembly file while maintaining associated views and possibly the annotation also?
I have tasks which require frequent subtle changes to assemblies. These assemblies will then be given a completely new file name, so it is no longer just a revision change but a new part altogether.
I sometimes create parts that are very similar to one another. (ie. - complex plate, but one part uses threaded holes, while an identical one has through holes, with all holes in the same location). So before now I would have built one part, made my drawing file. Then Copy/paste the part file into the same assembly folder, edit the hole feature of the newly copied part, then have to create an entirely new drawing file for the new copied part.
Is there a way to just copy my already created part drawing, and then just change the part file it used? They are basically the same part, but one uses threaded holes, the other uses through holes. My current way seems redundant and time wasting.
I want to duplicate & then rename a project I have stored on my vault computer, However I am experiencing many difficulties.
There are probably around 1000 + files in this project-multiple assemblies/drawings & parts. Initially i did a Pack & Go of the Project to my desktop. I then took my first top level drawings & using Design Assistant renamed all the reference parts and assemblies related too it. This worked fine, albeit a very long time to rename all the files.
The problem is that i have say 50 drawing files, some contain similar assemblies/part files which will have already been rename in the first top level drawing & some container different assemblies/parts (which are not related to the first top level drawing) & will have to be renamed separately.
Is there an easier way to duplicate & rename a vault project because design assistant makes this task extremely laborious. An great tool to add would be to 'Find & Replace' a file name & apply it too all the files. Similar to the function in Microsoft Word.
I have looked into the copy design feature in vault however, you can only copy a project within a project, you cannot copy it to a completely new folder in the vault.
The other problem is, is that you can only add a prefix or suffix to every file/related part/assembly, & i would rather replace the project number rather then add the new project number to the file names. This would be a viable option if you could rename multiple files quickly, however this just stems back to the design assistant.
In Inventor Drawing Mode how to select the models in Browser tree using VBA, I think using selectset is not possible in my knowledge. Is there any other way to execute the selection .
I have created a new item in content center in my personnel library. When i am creating a new item in content center its creating *.ipt file somewhere ? If so from which location i can open the part file ?
At my company we use part numbers as file names for everything. for example, part number 09090P00100000, will be saved as 09090P00100000.ipt and will have a drawing saved as 09090P00100000.idw.
Within the drawing template file, i want to set up an ilogic rule that will check that the part present in the drawing corresponds to the file name of the drawing. This rule will run after saving and will just display a warning if the file names do not correspond.
I just need some code that will get the file name of the part displayed in the drawing. Note that we use iparts so the code must get the member file name and not the factory file name.
Dim oDrawingDoc As DrawingDocument oDrawingDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument Dim oSheet As Sheet oSheet = oDrawingDoc.ActiveSheet
[Code] ........

is it possible to write a plug in that runs when a user does something.example. you start inventor and open a assembly file the user selects a part and the plugin automatically runs.no pussing buttons, no quick key, it just runs.
1) If I double click on a file, it opens in Illustrator, but it does not open with my default workspace settings. If I open the file from the file menu, my preferred workspace opens. and 2) If I have one file open, I cannot double click on a second file and have that file open in Illustrator. I just get the little spinning circle and then it stops. I can still open a second file from the file/open menu option.
I am having trouble with my CS3... have used for a number of years. It won't open a file. I click file, open.. and the selections go grey. I have uninstalled and re-installed and it does the same thing. I have re-installed on my data drive so there is plenty of room. I have 3.5 gb memory.. nothing else open.
I am trying to use iLogic to create the file types I need to give to my vendors once I have created a drawing. In the .idw file I have a rule that creates a .pdf file and .dwg file. I also want it to activate a rule I have in the .ipt file that creates a .dxf file.
trigger = iTrigger0oType=Left(ThisDoc.FileName(False),3)GoExcel.Open("S:DRAWINGSFolder Types.xlsx", "Sheet1")For rowPN = 1 To 200 If (GoExcel .CellValue("A" & rowPN) = oType) Then oFile = GoExcel.CellValue("C" & rowPN) Exit For End IfNextoFolder = "S:DRAWINGSNOT RELEASED" & oFileIf Not System.IO.Directory.Exists(oFolder) ThenSystem.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory(oFolder)End IfThisDoc.Document.SaveAs(oFolder & "" & [code].....
I am looking to apply a set part number iproperty to the first, then second, then third components in the assembly browser tree in my iLogic rule, regardless of their current part number. (I need to select them by their position in the browser tree as their part number will vary). How do I do this?
