AutoCAD Inventor :: Applying A Factor For Shrink

Feb 3, 2012

I have a part that I want to have made by rapid prototyping that will in turn be used as a pattern for casting alloy metal parts.  I need to apply a factor to the part to compensate for the shrinkage that occurs when a metal part is poured in a molten stage and will cool to slightly smalller dimensions than the mold.  Is there an easy way to do this without having to recreate the part to slightly larger dimensions?

AutoCAD LT :: Modify Border Offset Factor From Default Of 1.5 / Factor Reverts Back To 1.0

Feb 6, 2006

When using mtext and a background mask and try to modify the border offset factor from the default of 1.5 , the factor reverts back to 1.0. If I type in 1.25 or 1.75, it will not save it and revert to 1.0. If I put in a larger number like 2.0 or 3.0, that factor will be retained.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Shrink Part In Middle?

Jan 9, 2013

I have a part which is lets say 10ft long. Now I need to modify that to be 9.5ft. Is there a simple way to remove that .5ft from the center of the part?

I just need a way to cut out a .5ft section in the middle and then put the two remaining pieces back together. Doing this would be much easier than editing the sketches for the part, especially since I may have to change the amount that is cut out and that would change the number of holes and features.

Attached is a picture of the parts i have to edit and some lines to show the section that needs to get removed.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Automatic Update On Shrink Wrap Parts

Feb 15, 2013

About Substitute Shrink wrap parts, it doesn't automatic update when I use UPDATE or even REBUILD ALL inside the LOD with it, even if I don't break the link with the assembly it doesn't update, so I have to go in each assembly with Substitute parts ( with are many in huge projects) and then verify with "Check for updates" in the correct LOD (which in some cases are more than one per assembly). Is there a way to update them direct from the main assembly with rebuild all or something like that ?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Calculation Of Safety Factor

Dec 29, 2011

In the attached report, safety factor is se to calculate from ultimate tensile stress (485 MPa), and it indicates 1.33 with stresses:

Von-Mises: 323 MPa..............SF = 1.5
1st principal: 303 MPa.............SF = 1.6
2nd principal: -181.2 MPa....... SF =2.67

So, how is inventor getting 1.33 ?

EDIT: if I set it to calculate from yield ( 260 MPa) it accurately reports SF = 260/323=0.8

EDIT: added part file

AutoCAD Inventor :: K-Factor Note On Drawing Using ILogic

Jun 7, 2012

Any way, using iLogic, to get the K-Factor from a flat pattern sheet metal view on an idw drawing and add it as a note.

I'd like a rule that would access the flat pattern on the drawing, get the K-Factor value and then create a note that says, for example, "K-Factor Value = 44".

I see in the iLogic Snippets there's a Get Active KFactor under the Sheet Metal section, but I don't know where to start.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Update K Factor / Sheet Metal Type From Excel Parameter Spreadsheet

Apr 9, 2012

The dimensions (length, width, flange size, etc) are driven from a spreadsheet. I would like to be able to have the user update the K Factor from the same spreadsheet by selecting a sheet metal type.

The sheet metal type and K factor are not listed in the parameters list with the other model dimensional data, so I'm not sure how to proceed.

AutoCAD Inventor :: VBA Applying Drawing Dimensions?

Jun 22, 2009

I am wondering how best to apply drawing dimensions to a view. I am using VBA (Inventor 2010 x64) to modify a template skeletal assembly and save it. I have succeeded at generating the models, drawings, and drawing views, but have hit a wall when I attempt to automate the process of applying drawing dimensions.

I attempted to use GeneralDimensions.Retrieve with the DimensionsToRetrieve parameter, as I wish to retrieve only a few dimensions. My testing, however, indicated (and the helpfile confirmed) that the DimensionsToRetrieve parameter only work if the DimensionConstraint objects belong to a drawing sketch, and I'm retrieving dimensionconstraints from a model sketch. It appears to me that I will have to retrieve all dimensions and then somehow delete the unnecessary ones. This seems unusual to me--is there a better way? Can I, for example, retrieve a single dimensionconstraint at a time from the model rather than all of them at once? Perhaps its suitable applying drawing dimensions without retrieving them from the model?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Generator - Applying End Treatments

Aug 26, 2010

I'm working on a project that has a LOT of structural steel so I've been using Frame Generator a LOT.  At first, the delay I got when applying an end treatment to the structural members was no big deal.  Hundreds and hundreds of trim / notch treatments later, the 6 to 9 second delay each time I perform it is about to drive me crazy.  The trim/extend function lets me select a large number of members to trim to a single face, which is great.  The notch function, however, has to be done one at a time.  I have buttons programmed on my SpacePilot and mouse to reduce the number of mouse clicks, but once I click OK, there is always a long pause before the treatment is applied.

My system specs are listed below.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Applying Constraints In Stress Analysis

Jan 17, 2012

Basic understandable breakdown of the meanings of the 3 constraint options when running a stress analysis - pin, frictionless and fixed ?

It is difficult to tell if I am using the correct ones(s) and Inventor does not give a detailed enough description of how to apply them and which ones to use. I have attached an image showing what I have done so far, the constraints in the drawings are 1 pin constraint to the bolt (only fix axial direction checked) and 1 fixed constraint on the I-beam surface.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Applying Sliding Connection For Wheel On Rail

Jan 4, 2013

I'm trying to apply the right constraint in stress analysis environment.

How would I apply the right constraint? And to which face of the wheel or axle should I apply the constraint to get right results.

If I'm applying the sliding connection to the face of the wheel in z direction, the model will stop stress analysis with an error of "not enough constraints"

if I apply the sliding constraint to the inside of the wheel on the surface of the circle, I get the result as attached. I get 0 reaction in the Z direction which is wrong and should be zero reaction in x direction. How do I get it right?

The correct way to me would be a constraint that would only take forces in the -Y direction, same direction as gravity.

The wheel should not have any other reaction than in the Y direction. Hoe do I define that constraint? In my model the wheel are free to rotate on the axle.

I'm attaching both the general arrangement and the reaction report.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Applying Moment Load On Multiple Components?

May 8, 2012

I'd like to know how inventor defines the center of rotation when you apply moment load on multiple faces at once. I'm not basically able to define where exactly I need that axis to be. and I dont understand where inventor assumes that axis is. if you take a look at attached model, obviously the resultant forces caused by the applied moment are bigger on the single pillar located on the extention, thats why its been displaced more than the others, but where exactly is center of rotation. I'm trying to avoid modeling of the section above this which technically transfers the moment thorough shear pins on the structure I have modeled.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Ray Tracing Not Applying Shadows Or Lighting Correctly

Just started having a play with ray tracing in Inventor 2013 Pro & I'm quite impressed how quickly you can get a rendered view of a model. However, it seems no matter how I set up the lighting or the shadows in the 'Settings' menu when I click on 'Tay Tracing' it seems to default back to some original settings. The shadows & lighting in any of the drop down menus don't seem to be applied. eg. I select 'Two Lights' from the menu, then select 'Settings' I then adjust the shadows & the lights from within the menu. It all looks good on the screen & click Ray Tracing & everything that I've done doesn't get applied? However, when I cancel & stop the Ray Tracing the shadows & Lights are still there.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Text Mask Shrink Wrap?

Jul 27, 2010

I have always struggled with AutoCAD's text masking. I love the masking ability which makes drawings that are clean looking and easier to read. My issue is with the way the mask border is created. The mask creates a rectangular border that does not "shrink wrap" around the text. This can lead to masking more text than originally intended.

I am looking for a quick and easy way to wrap the mask around text. Right now the only way to accomplish the desired result is to explode the text into single lines and then mask each individual line. This creates issues with leaders and is a more time consuming process.
