I followed the steps I found online to create color-specific surface labels (I assigned red to the cut elev and green for the fill elev.), but when I display them using the spot elevation on grid, I am getting both red and green elevations on same point (they are both fill elev or cut elev.), and why are there two elevations (cut-red and fill green) displaying?

I use Civil 3D 2011 and I am new to it. I have created a natural ground surface from survey points. Now i want to create a finished surface with a specific slope in a specific direction at a specific elevation and then to calculate cut and fill volume.
I can create a flat surface at a specific elevation. How to tilt this surface to a specific slope along a specific direction.
I am trying to create a surface rise:run slope label for our company template file. I have it set using the default values that I want. But right now the text is just 1:1...where we want it to read 1V:1H.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIm currently using an addon for Civil 3D called Novapoint. It allows me to create 3D models of surfaces made out of 3d faces and easily models cut and fill 3d-models for me.
The only thing i need to create a cut and fill model is one or several ground surfaces (existing ground, earth layers, rock etc. whatever i need) and a closed polyline/3Dpolyline that represents the level I want my cut and/or fill model.
I enter the spcifications I want such as; earth cut angle, rock cut angle, fill angle, select which surfaces i want to include in the model calculation and select the polyline.Novapoint then calculates the cut/fill model from the surfaces to the polyline and models the different cut/fill angles and gives me the results in a 3d-face model and a specification of the volyme of rock cut, earth cut an fill.
1. Novapoint is quite unstable and crashes alot
2. You cant create profiles out of 3d faces
3. Novapoint does not automaticly combine the start surfaces with the modeled cut/fill surface
4. A large surface made out of 3d-faces demands alot of computer power
So I want to how I do the same that Novapoint does for me in Civil 3D? (I have access to Civil 3D 2007-2013 depending on which one you're using)I know I can take the 3Dfaces i created in Novapoint and make a surface in Civil 3D with them but I want to exclude Novapoint completely.
I have a drawing that someone else created that has a spot elevation label for a surface. It labels the surface (PAD) then automatically subtracts a set distance for another elevation (GFE) and adds a set distance for another elevation (FFE). After doing some research, it looks like it was created with an expression?
I have two questions:
First, where to go to get a better understadning of this? I'm not familiar with expressions.
Second, where can I find the expression in drawing to make an edit to the set distances. I can remove the GFE/FFE as they are separate components in the label style, but I don't see where to modify the distance it adds or subtracts.
We work with Hydro graphic surveys that have large numbers of points. We would like to be able to display girded spot heights colored to represent the elevation. (Similar to elevation banding)
I have created a surface and then created surface elevation points on a grid with spacing of 15m. I have tried looking at setting up a style that will adjust the color depending on the elevation ie 0 to -1 = red but haven't made any progress.
I need to figure out the amount of cut and fill up to a specific elevation, the Base Flood Elevation. Right now, I am creating the proposed and existing surfaces in Civil 3D and making a fellow coworker convert it to Eagle Point to generate this slice Volume Table. See attached PDF. Is there a way to generate this type of table in Civil 3D?

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I have an existing grade surface and I am laying out a number of different site designs. I've got all my surfaces from those site designs on different layers each displayed in a different layout. I need to label existing contours on each layout in different places. I've setup additional contour label styles (two for each design, major, and minor) and layers (two for each design, major, and minor). However, when I add labels to my existing surface, they come in on the right layer, but whenever I freeze any of the many layers my contour labels are on, they all turn off. The only workaround I can figure is to make copies of my existing surface for each design option and label each independantly. However, this is inacceptable as far as data management goes, since my one file will be hundreds of megs with all those surfaces.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOften we build a design surface from feature lines and possibly a grading or two. Then we cut sections.
Now, for set out, and especially for smaller contractors who don't have fancy survey gear, it would be really nice to be able to show design surface levels in section bands BUT ONLY AT THE SURFACE-DEFINING FEATURE LINE LOCATIONS.
I am aware that we can use grade breaks...but this gives us band data at each triangle intercept which is too much data. We can weed this data, but that is indiscriminate and I really need only the data at the surface-defining geometry points (feature line locations.)
We can also use station/elevation labels on the section views but this is time-consuming and non-dynamic. Band labels are dynamic and more or less automatic...if only we could get the discrete locations we need labelled.
I am placing a lot of suface slope labels in my drawing (as in hundreds). The default settings force you to choose a surface, and then to place it by selecting 1-point /or/ 2 points. The CAD default is the 1-point. Is there a way to change this default to the 2-point so I dont have to change it everytime?

I need to show where floodwaters would get to at a specific elevation so that contour would be the easiest way if I can contour the surface with just 1 elevation. The park is now broke into 5 different areas and I need to get cut and fill for each area. Is there a way to do a volume report for a particular area? I could define the area with a polyline. For example, I have recieved an xml surface representing FG for a project, and want to do an earthwork calculation, could I raise and lower only portions of the project say by using specific boundaries for the asphalt paving, concrete etc. and then implement the raise & lower surface feature for these portions of the FG surface.
At this time I have been creating multiple surfaces for each particular feature of the site, then paste the FG surface, add a boudary and lower appropriately. Finally, I have to go through and paste each particular feature and its small surface into one "subgrade surface" to get an accurate representation. This method results in countless small surfaces and alot of leg work for something that seems like it should be simple.
I know that the surface defentions (FL's or corridors), should they be provided, would make this easy, but there have been several occasions where these are not being made availble by the project sponsor.
How do we fill a rectangle or any close shape surface with a color?

The Label Style which I created for the annotated surface label spot elevations has all its properties set to be ByLayer for example its color and lineweight. The Layer I assigned the Label Style was assigned to a layer with a color and plot style that should plot any object screened. Color 8 and Plot Style Screened.
What other steps am I missing to assure myself that this Label Style will plot screened in my new Precise Grading Breakout Sheet?
I also made sure that the xref drawing in which this Surface spot elevation has the correct colors and lineweights and Plot Styles in my new Precise Grading Breakout Sheet.
I am using Civil 3D 2011 for my job. I am trying to put together preliminary estimates and need earthwork qunatities. I have no issue importing a google earth surface. I import the surface and create a boundary. How do I calculate cut/fill quantities? I tried creating a finished ground surface then making a tin volume surface to compare the two. However, I do not know how to create a fnished ground surface. I have also tried grading in civil 3d. Cannot get anyting to work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was undertaking a cut and fill analysis but the values were very different. Evaluating spot levels the depth was given as 1.2m but the volume surface stated it was only .6m.
After a while I noticed that the master surface had been "corrupted" duing a recovery, all definitions to the controlling corridor and other objects had been removed and a snapshot added with the description "added during recovery".
I had to remove the surface and start from scratch re-building the definitions.
