AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Add Elevation Labels At Any Position On A Feature Line Without Having To Create A Surface?

It labels the surface (PAD) then automatically subtracts a set distance for another elevation (GFE) and adds a set distance for another elevation (FFE). After doing some research, it looks like it was created with an expression?
I have two questions:
First, where to go to get a better understadning of this? I'm not familiar with expressions.
Second, where can I find the expression in drawing to make an edit to the set distances. I can remove the GFE/FFE as they are separate components in the label style, but I don't see where to modify the distance it adds or subtracts.
We work with Hydro graphic surveys that have large numbers of points. We would like to be able to display girded spot heights colored to represent the elevation. (Similar to elevation banding)
I have created a surface and then created surface elevation points on a grid with spacing of 15m. I have tried looking at setting up a style that will adjust the color depending on the elevation ie 0 to -1 = red but haven't made any progress.
I have a project I designed and grading plan is almost done. My proposed surface lables read as 1256.50. How can I get them to read just 56.50? I have a FG surface I created and am labeling using surface elevations. I am running out of room and need to free up some space. I don't want do drop my surface 1200'.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've seen a label style somewhere that can label the elevation of vertices and elevation points on feature lines. How to style or a procedure for creating a style for this?
I've found a couple of blogs that layout the steps for a style but it seems there are a few ways to do it so I'm looking for what could be considered the most effective/versatile approach.
Is there a way to convert a feature line elevation point to PI?
My objective here is to delete all the elevation points except one. It would be time consuming to pick each elevation point and delete them individually (in this case there are about 15 but sometimes there are more). I want to use the delete all option but keep one one of them. If I can convert that one into a PI I could then quickly delete the remaining elevation points.
The way I used to adjust feature lines was to highlight the node I wanted to adjust and then raise or lower that elevation incrementally until I got to a grade that worked.
Now I've noticed that when I highlight a node and hit the button to raise or lower, it forgets which node I had highlighted after the first press. This is a problem because now I either have to click on the node every time, because if I don't it will raise or lower the elevation of the entire feature line.
I need elevation data from a surface. I need an elevation every 15' along an alignment or feature line. I would like the information as a table. I am not sure how to do this.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to increase the size of the marker that shows up on the plan view when you select a PI in the elevation editor? It is so small that if I have the feature line selected I can't see the marker over the highlighted line. I generally have to zoom to a PI so I can see where I am.

I want to set and Elevation Point (not a PI Point) along a feature line by entering the grade from the previous point. Currently the "Set Elevation Point" command only allows entering an elevations or getting an elevation from the surface. I know I can set an elevation point and then use the "quick elevation editor" to adjust the grade, but I don't want to go through the extra step.
I needed to remove a feature line that I used as a break line when creating a surface. When I removed the feature line from the definition of the surface, the grading did not change. It appears the points created by the feature line remain which is why grading didn't change. The only work around was to delete these points.
I noticed the same thing happens when I removed the surface boundary and inserted a new boundary. why these points remain and how to remove when I delete boundary and feature line from surface?
I created a label for retaining wall that takes the z value from the start and end of a feature line. Works great except that it isn't dynamic. I have created the feature line in a grading sheet where the surface is data shortcut into it and I'm just using grips to make sure the ends are on the bottom and top of the retaining wall. Is there any way to dynamically pin/tie the feature line to a surface that has been data shortcut?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there is a way that I can take an existing grade surface and apply a designed pond surface.
Right now I have the pond as a set of 3d Polylines in the proper geometry.
I want to place the pond into this surface and cut/fill at a 3:1 from that pond to the existing surface.
This is the message I get when trying to elevate a featureline to a surface in C3D 2012, SP3. The featurlines (4 of them) lie entirely within subject surface but I am unable to get this command (AeccFeatureElevsFromSurf) to complete correctly with any of them.
The 4 featurelines are at the red arrows, a corridor from the centerline at the green arrow has been created, from which the subject surface was derived and is depicted by the yellow & green contour lines.
I created a new surface, pasted my OG surface into it, set the build to exclude elevations less than and greater than but my surface still is showing every contour range. I want to only show contours at elevations of 371.5 and 370.5
Is it because it's a pasted surface?
I have an existing surface with a steep slope and a feature line for the edge of a proposed walkway. I need a buffer of 25m on either side of the walkway but offsetting doesn't take the grade of the slope into account. How do I grade down the hill from the feature line at 25m to match to the existing surface?

I am working on a large park project. I have a proposed and existing surface. I have created a volume surface to show elevation banding with cut and fill ranges. I need to create a drawing for someone who doesn't have civil 3d showing all the "cut" areas. They really want a boundary of hatch. What is the best way to do this after I change my analysis to -30 feet cut to 0 feet cut.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI use the create feature lines from object command from the Survey pull-down menu and choose a "Associate figure survey point to vertices" I get a survey figure that uses point elevations at some vertices and 0 at others. However, if I use Create Feature Lines from Objects under the Grading pull-down, and use a surface made of just the points, I get a a figure with all the correct elevations.
I checked the vertices where the survey figure drops to 0 and the line is snapped to the point, distance = 0.0000. What gives?
I am trying to create a surface rise:run slope label for our company template file. I have it set using the default values that I want. But right now the text is just 1:1...where we want it to read 1V:1H.

I want to create a profile layout by feature line. Is it possible?I have a pipe about 3 miles long, an alignment along the pipe, and a provie view showing the exisitng surface and pipe network. The pipe network was created from a feature line. I projected the feature line to the profile.
This is why I want to do this: I need to label the horizontal and vertical angle points of the pipe in plan view. I crated a style that shows the station and elevation. I want the elevation to reference the profile. But it only gives me the elevation of the surface and I need the top of pipe elevation.
I tried crate profile by layout and traced over the top of the pipe in profile but its 3 miles and it will take a long time. How to get what I want done faster?

When I try to create a feature line using an alignment/ profile, sometimes it gives me a feature line for the entire alignment, even though my profile is only a small segment. I made sure I selected the correct profile, and I even deleted all other surface profiles just in case. But it still gives me a wonky feature line for the entire alignment.
However, in the same file, other profiles have worked perfectly.

I have a number of Sites in my drawing. I want to be able to set a Site current (in LISP) so that when you create or draw a feature line, the site is set to the desired value. I haven't seen a variable or setting for this.
I think this issue started with SP2. I don't remember having these issues in SP1 and earlier.
Create some COGO points at varying elevations.Start a new feature line.Use "node" object snap and pick your first cogo pointIt does not pick up the elevation of the point (it used to)Now draw feature line segments to a few more cogo points entering the elevation each time.It does not pick up the elevation of the point (it used to)Now switch to Arc mode and snap to a few more cogo points. It does correctly picks up the elevation of the cogo points (like it used to)R.K. When we apply surface projection gradings to feature lines, we get locked vertices on the feature line wherever the grading transitions from cut to fill. In turn these vertices create segments in the feature line which influence any labels applied to the line. I don't want a bazillion segment labels on my FL. I only want segment labels between the physical vertices and elevation points. Is there a workaround or is an enhancement request in order?
