AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Templates And Point Groups
Sep 27, 2012Can you create point groups in your template to be used by all drawings or do they have to be per dwg.?

View 7 RepliesI just discovered survey figure groups and am playing around with them. Great way to bring certain figures in & out. What seems crazy is that I have to check them on/off one at a time. Am I missing something or is this the only way to add figures to a figure group?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHow to set a default point style for point groups? Whenever I import survey points, I always put them into their own point group, so I can display each day's worth of survey data differently. For some reason, the point style always defaults to a certain style (our control point symbol). I'd like it to default to Basic, so I don't have to change this every time. Is it a template drawing setting somewhere?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two different point groups that I am using in my drawing. One is from a survey done a few years ago and the other is from one that I did just the other day.
I don't have a problem inserting the points or whatnot, but the issue I am having is that when I click "Datum" to adjust the elevations of my new point group (to make my benchmark 100.00'), Civil 3D alters all of my points; including the ones from the older survey. Is a way to adjust elevations to only one set of points.
For some reason I have three copies of my point groups. I have not inserted any drawings into my current drawing. Just been working with pipe networks. There are three copies of every point group even though only a couple of point groups are being used in this drawing if that matters.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have about 50 point groups that the client needs in an ENZ format, is it possible to export them all at once with the name of the point group being the name of the file?
if so, the more annoying part of this is that I actually have to make the ENZ file an ENZD file with the D being the name of the file for each point, if both of these things are possible
Inclusion of “point groups” in a table, I wanted to include “point groups” in a table but couldn’t know what is the most appropriate command to accomplish this task.
I tried the “extract data” command (attached) but sounds not to produce the required table.
I am running into a problem where Civil 3D is creating multiple point groups of my 4 existing groups (the original group names are Topo, Existing Ground, Hide, and All Points). The new groups seem to be copies of the originals in terms of styles but do not include the points that were designated in the originals (no points are assigned in these copies).
The groups appear some time after I create the surface.
I've also noticed that this occurs in my list of grading criteria as well.
write out the steps involved in importing one set of points to a point group so that it is one color and on one layer and a different set of points onto a different layer with a different color? We gather survey data using different methods and want to be able to overlay the data sets for quality control purposes and them being the same color is crazy making
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have created 8 points (from 4 locations with 2 depths in each location) in _All Points/Points. These 8 points are grouped into 2 Point Groups:
Points #1, #3, #5 & #7 for Point Group - (1) Depth#1 and
Points #2, #4, #6 & #8 for Point Group - (2) Depth#2.
The "Name" of Point is filled with the SampleID (like cdc-ss01-s1, cdc-ss01-s2,...) - see the attached file. From the HELP of AutoCAD C3D 2013, I have read/studies the "Point Tables" and "Point Label Styles" and I cannot figure out how to label the 8 points to show the "Point Number", "Point Elevation", and "Name" of Point (i. e. the SampleID like cdc-ss01-s1 & cdc-ss01-s2, ....).!!
C3D2012. We have a master C3D template that includes a number of point filters (let say 20 of them) and a number of layouts (again, let say 20 of them) to accommodate our two sheet sizes.
Here is the issue that I am running into, when the Plan Production tools use a layout to create plan and profile sheets from the same master template that is used to initially create the file, the whole process will duplicate each point group 150 times for every group (see attached). So, what I ended up with is 20 point groups X 150. In my example, I ended up with 3000 duplicate point groups.
The end result is a file that is somewhat unusable do to the number of point groups. The other issue is now that all of these point groups are in the file you are unable to delete them all at once without "crashing" C3D. So you are left to deleting a handful at time. It is also best if you turn UNDO off while you do it.
I have been able to duplicate this in multiple files; however, from the same master template. As a test I did create separate templates (which are pretty bare bones) for the plan production and all works well. Therefore, there is either an issue with C3D and Plan Production and point groups or it is our template.
I would really like to nail down (as best I can) what is generating the 150 duplicates/ point group name to see if there is a way "around" this.
Currently, I am unable to share the template, but it shouldn't be too difficult to re-create. Take any template, add some point groups to, add a plan and profile sheet to one of the layouts, create a new file from this template, finally create plan and profile sheets from the layout in the very same template.
Is there a way to create automatic Point Groups when importing points? Sort of like a Desc Key for layers? I know it probably is impossible but I have to ask.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn an effort to firm up my understanding of how styles, point groups, description keys and layers collide, I followed the recommendations of an article. How groups/deskeys function together for layer visibility.
This process of Layer visibility that is supposed to make the program flexible makes it almost impossibly complicated.
I have a drawing and i don't use alignment in this drawing , what i need is to produce (view frame groups). Can i produce the groups without alignment.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created several pond embankments using the grading tools and have created surfaces using the grading groups. The problem I am having is when I turn on the triangles for one surface, I get the triangles for all the embankments and EG. The software keeps adding to the EG and doesn't cut out each embankment. I know I'm missing a step but I'm unable to find it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm currently trying to model all siteworks for a project using Civil 3D 2014. I created several grading groups that represent the various pads I need for the general project layout. Since this was the way I knew how to model the pads, now I have some intersections on the slopes between one grading group and the other. I was wondering if I could "merge" the grading groups in order for them to be just one big pad, that maintains all the levels from the other pads. Here is an image of what I am trying to explain:
What I want to do is to merge the regions circled in red, so that I have only one building pad on my terrain.
can i divide them in 3 different areas that when i add their individual volume would give the same total volume if you calculate the entire surface?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Civl3D 2013 and I have a drawing that crashed and a recover dwg was created.
I ran the recovery and now the points and groups are gone. Is there a way to get them back?
I can go back to an older drawing. But, i'm trying to avoid losing a few hours of cleanup.
Is this just one of the bugs that is in Civil3D?

Im still new to Civil 3D and i would like to know how to connect inported points using 3D polylines. I imported my points from Excel in a PNEZD format. How do i get the 3d poly line to snap to my points so I can Connect them? someone mentioned using a feature line to connect the points but im not sure how or what that would do.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a database of points I am trying to import, and the point data for each point includes a hyperlink. I've created a set of custom User-Defined Property Classifications for all the data types in the point database, and I've created a point file format to use to import the points.
It's a database of existing curb ramps, the data includes things like widths, slopes, some text, and a hyperlink to the Google Streetview at each ramp. I've created a custom point label that will show the data I need to see at each ramp.
All goes great except that the import fails because of the hyperlinks. I've tested it by removing the hyperlinks from a small test portion of the data set, and the test points are then successfully imported. I suppose I can delete the hyperlinks from the entire database, but if there is a way to include the hyperlinks in the point import I would prefer that.

In uploading the Point input data into the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 software program, is it possible for me to add more Point Attribute items after Point Number, X, Y, Z? I need to have the chemical results/data attached to the (sampling) Point that has the Point #, X, Y, Z - like Point Number, X, Y, Z, Arsenic, Lead, Mercury in the input .txt (or .csv) file.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwe have just upgraded from Inv 2011 to 2013. I am trying to create the drawing templates in 2013 by using the blank 2013 template and then copying our border from 2011 onto it. This works a treat apart from 1 thing.
The i properties do not get copied over as well so the sheet is blank from drawing number, title and the custom properties etc.
First time importing into 2012-have csv file that I imported. Coordinates land in right spot. Local system-No transformations/State Plane zones attached. When I look at them with tracking everything is okay. When I export the points they are the same I imported.
When I list the points they are way off?

Is there a 'property' to use the Point Group Name. I need it in the Point Table Style: Title text like this:
I have this problem when creating grading groups with more than one feature line in them. It seems really unstable when you trying get the grading to connect. I have tried to create two separate grading groups in one site or two feature lines in one grading group. And the result is the same, the grading that will be create can sometimes look oki, but suddenly they tend to disappear or look weird...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get point 1234 to show a label that says Point #1234 and then in a grading plan have that same point show up as a spot elevation. I have tried making two point groups "Point #" and "Spot Grades" which include the same points in them with two different label styles for each group, however the point seems to only want to take one label style at a time.

How do i get templates which I have created, to show on the sections, when the sample lines were not drawn perpendicular to the alignment.
I am getting the template to show only at those sections which are perpendicular to the alignment.
I am an IT specialist running AutoCAD Civil 3D on about 100 computers for students at a community college.
The students recently alerted me that the Plan Production templates are missing from their accounts. I have previously watched these templates build, and they are supposed to be installed for each user the first time they run Civil 3D. (I have actually seen these files get added to the enu directory as the green bar progresses.)
At one time, these templates loaded, but now they are not. I am seeing two other folders in this directory, as wel as several other templates in the enu root directory, but not the Plan Production folder.
Civil 3D is part of a suite of CAD apps I installed on our systems that includes base AutoCAD 2013, AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD MEP, AutoCAD Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD MAP, and AutoCAD REVIT.
Also, I have installed Civil 3D SP2 directly over the base installation without first installing SP1.
Finally, some users have told me that we should run base AutoCAD once and let that progrm make the first-time-use changes before running Civil 3D for the first time. I have tried running base AutoCAD first and Civil 3D first, and neither seems to make any difference.
I have created a drawing template in C3D with layers, blocks, descriptor keys and all the fun stuff, but this was just for the survey section of the engineering group I work with. Now the engineers, who had another template set up with design layers which they don't use but may want to use, asked me if I can add their layers to my template. The have about 2000 layers and I do not want to manually add this information. Is there any way I can either export their layers or merge the layers?
