AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Object Visible When Layer Turned Off?
Jun 29, 2013For some reason points are still visible when the layer they are on is turned off. Also the layer is green but the point is red. Color is set to ByLayer.

View 4 RepliesI just had C3D 2013 reinstalled on my LT and having a surface visibility issue. This may be just a command setting issue but I have a surface and created it on a particular layer that I can't make invisible.
Then I turned that layer off so I could work on other things. Now when I do a REGEN that surface becomes visible in my drawing yet the layer identified in its properties is turned off.
If I got to VIEW and ORBIT the surface disappears until I stop rotating then it’s visible again. I like to control visibility by turning layers on or off but this isn’t allowing me to turn it off.
If I make the surface layer current and do a rebuild the surface moves back to that layer and I can then turn that layer off to make the surface invisible.
Why is this surface visible when its layer is turned off?
I have a plan view of a residential building. I want to remove some columns. I may need them later so I don't want to delete them.
I want to move them to a new layer (layer name: hiddenObject) and turn this layer off to unshow them.
When I move them and turn that layer off, first, the color of those objects didn't turn to layer's color and second they don't disappear.
What is wrong with my procedure?
So... every layer has to be turned on and thawed? But that's the direction things seem to be going. If I want to see my contours, for example, all layers associated with them must be on and thawed. Yes? No?
This makes drafting and designing more difficult and it unnecessarily clutters the screen. Once I'm done creating a surface, for example, I don;t want to see the intermediate entities again (unless I need to make changes). All I want to see is the finished product that will appear on the plans, i.e. contours, etc.

The layer is turned off but the table is still turned on!
I’m wondering how come the layer in which the table exist is turned off while the table is still turned one!
The screenshot and the file are attached.

I have several documents with what I call "reference layers" in them that I turn off when making a PDF. When I view the PDF on a Windows based machine, it is fine in both FireFox and IE. When viewing the PDF on a Mac product (iPad, iPhone, Mac desktop), the layers I have turned off are showing up in the PDF.

It happened either after I printed or exeted the layer dialogue box, I can't recall. How can I get things to go back to show the colors they are. Oh and I'm using AutoCAD Architecture 2012.

I want my layer ON but locked, what can I do?
Is there a setting somewhere that will allow you to turn off a layer automatically when another layer is turned off?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having problems plotting out parcels and creating label settings. I think I am missing an important concept in the object and display tab of setting creation. I am not finding going through the documentation. What I have found is not well explained.
I started with the OOB alignment settings. I noted that the Basic setting has a description that states the object will take on the settings of the layer it is created on.
I noted that if I adjusted the alignment properities to "Basic". I could then move the 'roadway' alignments to P-RD-CL and the swale alignments to P-SWALE-CL. Freezing the P-SWALE-CL then turns off the swale CL's, but keeps the roadway ones on.
I am looking for a fast way to determine which styles this works for or the area of the documentation that better explains how this works.
I am starting to explore creating label styles the same way. That way I can double or triple label pipe networks such that identical styles are labeled on an E&S layer and a PCSM layer and the individual lables can be dragged on the two different sheet layouts in the same file to avoid text over writes.
I've used E- for Existing and P- for Proposed for my layers and/or style names. For Object Layers, I've used OBJ- with modifiers and set the layers inside the styles to 0. This works ok, and Civil 3D objects obviously stand out and are easily isolated thru layiso and such, BUT having styles set to 0 presents a problem when dumbing down a drawing to send to another firm. The C3D Objects that are dumbed down are on layer 0 which isn't good.
We're generating a new template for 2013 and want to gear it towards the National Cad Standards on some level and do away with 0 as the style layer and actually have the style layers set to something other than 0.
My initial thoughts from a simplistic standpoint are:
V- for Survey and Existing features
C- for Proposed features
I understand there's many more designators. We mainly do Civil and Utility work.I know V is a designator for Survey but can it cover and should it cover existing features too that aren't surveyed, for example if we receive mapping from someone and want to reassign some layer names? Is C- strictly for Proposed/Design work?
I'm reviewing a template we're working with someone on and they assigned the layers inside an Existing Surface Style to C-Topo-Majr and C-Topo-Minr. They assigned the layers inside the Proposed Surface Style to C-Topo-Majr-N and C-Topo-Minr-N. The only difference is the N for New, between the style layers.
Shouldn't the Existing Surface Style layers start with V-?Just trying to get some feedback on a simplistic approach to Layer naming and keeping with the National Cad Standards on some level.
I used object snap tracking for years.Since I upgraded to AutoCad 2014 why does object snap tracking only work with Dynamic input turned on?
Personally I do not like to work with Dynamic imput on, when I use object snap tracking with out DI turned on it doen't work right. Past versions worked fine. What do I do to get this back?
I have several paperspace tabs on my drawing. When I create a new layer on the drawing, I have to go to every tab and viewport to turn on or off the new layer. Is there a way to create a layer that is turned off in all the drawing viewports and tabs. Then, I only have to go to the paperspace tab and viewport I want the layer to be seen and turn it on.

I know the surface is there but I'm not able to see it.
Can you paste a surface from a different dwg?
Once an object is converted to a button how can it be changed back (have the button properties removed?) There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to do this, but I can't imagine Adobe hasn't allowed for this...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI added an Axis FX to the clip on the timeline and entered the Editor. Everything looks fine. I see the clip loaded above the control parameters. The "Layer" button is turned on. Stabilizer/Track is set to Track. When i click on the Stabilizer button to enter the tracking editor, I see the tracking box on a black screen, the clip is not visible anymore.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I drag an effect from the target circle of one object to anther in the layer's panel it replaces the effect along with all appearance. But I want just to add the effect. For example, a layer has a drop shadow and a path, round corners. I want to move the drop shadow from the layer to the path so that the path now has the round corners and the drop shadow. To do this I have to open the shadow effect of the layer wright down its parameters, then create a shadow effect for the path with the same parameters which is a lot of work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a system variable to stop layers i have frozen off and turned off from plotting.
I have tried changing the VPLAYEROVERRIDESMODE but this had done nothing tho solve the problem.
I have a new machine and a fresh install of Civils 3D, as do ohers in the office however i am the only one this is happening to.
There are no drawing entities or xrefs on layer 0 or the defpoints layer.
i have a problem and it's driving me nuts. I have some corel files with print grid layer button turned on and it's impossible to turn it off.
This have a secondary effect and it's corel hangs up when i try to print the file, start to make the "previous checkings" and never ends.
I can't seem to copy a part of a layer into another layer. When I do that, the pasted layer becomes invisible. The pasted layer seems to be visible only when it's on its own layer.
Please see attached xcf.
Autocad Architecture 2012: my dwg is fully visible in 3D View but partially visible in plan View. What could be causing this problem? See screen shot attached.

I have a simple solid model of a cube representing a cooling tower that still shows up when I do a realistic visual style even though the layer is off and/or frozen. I cannot hide this thing for some reason. What am I doing wrong?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a record plat drawing with multiple parcels and parcel styles. For my lands of the grantors I view port froze the lots and right of way layers from my parcel styles. I don’t want to show them in this viewport. To my surprise the lines show up in the object layer we have set for parcels. This was not the case in 2011. We are in 2014 with the first hotfix update. I understand putting the parcel styles in the object layer, but why another mysterious line under it? I did create parcels from objects, but had them erased when I created them. This did not matter either way. Is there a way to get rid of them? I did put them in a new layer, set it to “No Plot” This kept them from plotting, but I really don’t want to have to take the time to do it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI wanted to rename one of the default layer, "Visible," to "CUT" since that's what our plasma cutter looks for.
However, I created a copy of Visible named CUT. Now when I open a new drawing, I get the usual, "The following definitions in template Blah differ from the definitions in the style library..."
I know I could update each template, but I'd rather just delete the copied layer in the styles library. However, I don't see how. Any tips on removing my extra layer with out starting from scratch? Or how to rename a default layer?
I have several .dwg files from an architect each with several hundred layers. I set up a Layer State in one drawing with just the layers I need. I want to use the same Layer State in the other drawings. I opened the Layer States Manager, selected my layer state, and clicked export, selected a location and closed the window.
I double checked in the file manager in Windows 7 that the .las file was where I had exported it. Then I opened the next .dwg, opened Layer States Manager, navigated to the file location and the .las file does not show up.
When I go back to the original drawing and click Import, the .las file is not visible either, but it is if I click Export.I am working on drawings on my hard drive not a network, and saving the .las file to my hard drive.
Layers are shown in the drop down menu from the ribbon but when I open the layer manager no layers are visible. I can click in the empty space and the layer will highlight. See attached.

I have a viewport in paper space with most layers set to "VP Freeze". When I save the drawing or when a auotsave occurs, the frozen layers become visible again in the viewport even though they are still marked as frozen. The only way I can get the viewport to display correctly again is to close the drawing and re-open it. How I can stop this from happening?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I insert a drawing from another source as a block into one my drawing - and then explode the block and change the exploded block layers to my layers. Then I purge out the old layers. Normally this works fine, but I have lately had trouble getting rid of some unwanted layers as everytime I have tried, I get the message that they are x-ref dependent and cannot be deleted or purged. I have tried to isolate them by freezing and turning off everything else, but there are no features, entities, "specks" whatever, to erase. I have looked at the xref command, and my drawing shows no rogue xrefs. I am not sure what to do to get rid of these layers.
