AutoCAD Civil 3D :: MLeader Rotation In Rotated VPorts
Nov 28, 2012
I have cut sheets following my alignment. I would like the mleaders I place in model space to be at zero rotation when I go to the individual sheets. Works fine for text if I check the "Match text orientation to Layout" box, but not for the mleaders. Is there a setting I am missing?

I have an mleader with a single vertices point.
There's a thing called a doglength which enables a grip point that allows the leader to be repositioned.
Dim ml As MLeader = TryCast(Entity, MLeader)
ml.SetDatabaseDefaults()
m_leaderIndex = ml.AddLeader()
m_leaderLineIndex = 0
ml.SetDoglegLength(m_leaderLineIndex, 2.5)
I have a problem with the dogleg length in that I can't rotate it according to the current UCS. Is this possible?

Showing/not showing the same wipeout drawin in Model space in different Vports?
I make a wipe out in MODEL SPACE to "clean" behind an annotative text (also switching off the edge), is it possible show this wipe out only in certain Vport with a certain scale without having "holes" in general view of the same drawing in a different Vport in paper Space?
Something like an annotative wipeout. I tryed also creating an annotative block but it's not solve the problem, it keep hidding behind the block. I'm using AutocadLT2010

I used "VPORTS" command in auto cad 13. It poped up a dialogue. While"-vports"command it popped up the promp text. It has different function.Is there basic rules about hyphen before a command or without hyphen.
Because for each command whatever I type in ,there is '''-' before the command line showed.By the way , cad13 don't have vports button activated in the tool bar(view- vports), that is why I have to type in VPORTS command to make a v-port

I'm having a little problem with the modelspace in a vport disappearing on me.
I am trying to do some B.O.M. work, and sometimes I can't snap to a particular point/object, so I turn osnap off and zoom in to identify the correct object. After a certain point in the zoom the drawing regens and then the modelspace disappears completely.
I tried a regenall, closing the drawing and starting it up again, but it's still not there. I checked the properties and it still says it's a vport. When I double click it to enter modelspace from the vport it doesn't take me into modelspace.
I've checked my maxactvp, that's maxed out at 64. I've run an audit and that didn't work.

I've placed generic Junction box structures right out of the box from C3D and when I cut a section, the section shows the wrong side of the structure. (Rotated) i.e. An inserted 60”x36” junction box inserted as a curb inlet and then rotated into position will display the 60” side even though it’s perpendicular to the section line.
I've had to go back and place a 36”x60” to get it to display the 36” side in section? Why is there a “rotation handle” on the structure if you can’t really rotate it?I really don't want to swap all 60"x36" with 36"x60" structures just so they will display properly in section.

I have a dwg that looks great in model space, however I created a couple paperspace layouts and then used Align Space to rotate to those views. The problem is that my point label style rotates the point labels based on the align space rotation.
I looked into the point label settings and changed the orientation reference to the World Coord. Sys., but it does not make the points rotate correctly. (world reference is the goal).

I have a drawing I am working on regardless of whether I use DVIEW Twist or UCS rotate I encounter the same issue. I start with MTEXT that is parallel to my intended view. However, as soon as I make it annotative and set it to Match Layout the text rotates 90-degrees and is no longer plan readable.The text lives in model space, not paper space. I've even roated the layout viewports in this specific drawing to match, and the text appears correct when viewed through a viewport, but when I jump back to model it is turned on end 90-degrees again! Have I missed a setting somewhere? Shouldnt the text reamin oriented with current view in model space?
I am uploading a link to a video which shows this problem in detail. URL...

So I have a survey of a roadway that was created 15 years ago and was converted into autocad civil 3d 2012. No problems there, however, I am going through the survey and rotating the COGO points (ie Traffic Signs, Utility Poles) and the text to be parallel to the roadway. I am in UCS World and have no problems rotating the points and text to what I want. THe problem starts when I rotate the drawing using UCS 3P so that I am looking at a portion of the roadway that is parallel to my computer screen. Now the text and orientation of the signs etc are no longer parallel to the roadway and did not rotate when I rotated the entire project.
Now I was under the impression the points were to rotate automatically to what I set them as, ie parallel to the roadway. I'm sure this is an easy fix or I am not understanding something.

I am making a template file having title block with fields. I use this template for creating layouts and sheets using Sheet Set Manager and the fields will be updated from the data of SSM. Now i would like to add a dynamic north block to my template. The block could be rotated (i have this block in file itself) and rotation angle could be inserted. Now how can i add a custom field to SSM so that i could set a rotation angle for the project and thus every new layout or sheet created using the template has the north block rotated with the angle mentioned in SSM.
Here is the file...........

How can I revised the line type so that the text reads in the same direction. The linetype text auto adjust to read correctly in Model Space. However In the plan and profile drawing the site is rotated 90 degrees so when the text changes direction from northwest to northeast and the line text changes direction. I need for the text to be in the same direction the entire length of the line.

I placed all my leaders (mleaders were used) and text, then I had to change my viewport rotation 180 deg. Now all my text is upside down. I change my UCS to view and new mleaders and text (which I don't need, I've already labeled everything) come in at the correct orientation, but all my original labels are rotated. How can I make these labels update? I'd really like to avoid having to relabel everything.

I have a North Arrow that I would love to make into a dynamic block. I would like to be able to rotate the N that represents where the north direction is. But while rotating the N around the center of a circle I would like the letter itself to stay un-rotated. It seems simple, if I rotate the letter around the axis of a circle 90 deg, I would like the letter itself to rotate -90 deg on it's own axis. Of course this is easy to do manualy, but how do i do it so that rotation 1 automaticaly triggers rotation 2?

Pt# 812 (From my drawing)
N: 2004294.63
E: 6057287.18
Pt# 715 (Stake point from a DXF file)
N: 254.39
E: 218.59
I built my drawing from the civils. I wanted to check the points that the surveyors are staking with a DXF file. As you can see from the above two points, our coordinates were wildly different. I brought the DXF file into my drawing as a block, and translated and rotated it to match my drawing. I had to drag it several miles, but no problem there.I imported the as-staked point file to a new group and dragged them up near my drawing, but the drawing was getting a bit crowded by then. So I made a block of all the imported points to make it easier to translate and rotate them to match my drawing and the overlayed DXF. After exploding the block of points, the points showed up in the new group. Anyhow, here's my questions:
1. How do you renumber(offset number) imported points? The option I saw was only for duplicate points. I wanted to offset them all.
2. How do you translate and rotate a large bunch of points without turning them into a block?

I have a plan with lots and lot numbering. I made the lot number text annotative and matching view orientation. But when it rotates in the view it rotates about the left justification point instead of middle as inserted into drawing. So I inserted lot numbert text into drawing and changed text to non-annotative, but now i can not change the text rotation angle unless i use rotate command on each individual piece of text (was trying to pick all text and change in properties box). Using feature lines to assist in grading design so not sure if this is an autocad problem or a civil 3d 2012 problem. I can rotate dtext made or inserted in drawing.

I am using the Dynamic North arrow that is linked to the viewport. It doesn't matter if I use an OOTB block or a custom one they all have a rotation of 355.4016.
The viewport is type "Plan", Dview twist is set to "0", USC is World. If I change the rotation on the block it rotates the viewport (as expected). The default block is not rotated.
BTW, It works fin in the default NCS, so it's something in my template.

Apparently text will always rotate about the bottom left grip and not the justified grip.
This is a massive issue that makes this great feature virtually worthless.
If the text is going to rotate in multiple viewports you need it to stay in the same place!

When setting up a simple FK control curve on say the wrist for example, many times the control curve isn't exactly perpendicular to the local rotation axis of the joint movement, so when we position the control curve to be perpendicular to the joint - it has a rotational value added, but the rotational handles are lines up with the rotational handles of the joint that we want to move.
Freeze Transformations: then the control curves rotational handle go back to being skewed (out of alignment with the joints)
We want to Freeze transformations before constraining the curve, but we'd really to keep those rotations control handles to remain aligned with the joints rotational handles. This will make it an exact control when animating - grab the rotational handle of the curve, rotate it, and the joint will move exactly in the proper direction.
how to get the rotational handle of any control curve to run perpendicular to the shape after freezing transformations?

To summarize: It seems that compounding a path resets the rotation of the gradient to it's original degree of rotation.
Detailed version:
1. Create a shape.
2. Add a gradient fill. Note it's degree of rotation. Let's say it's set at 10°.
3. Now rotate the shape by any means (transform or rotate tool). Note the gradient degree of rotation has shifted the same amount as the shape was rotated (if it was rotated 50°, the gradient will show at 60°).
4. Make it a compound path.
5. Instantly the gradient shifts back to it's original degree of rotation of 10°.
It appears that when rotating a shape with a gradient, the rotation of the gradient is locked to the rotation of the shape. But when making it a compound shape it releases that lock and "remembers" it's original state. But that is only true as soon as you make it a compound path, but if you no go ahead and rotate it just a bit using the cursor (as opposed to selecting transform > rotate), the gradient will switch back to how you would expect it to rotate in the first place...
Workaround would be to make it a compound path before rotating the shape at all.

using AutoCAD 2009 (vanilla)
I got too smart for myself today in bringing an old drawing up to current standards...Everyone seems to want their block attributes to be zero - I have blocks where the attributes are best when they match the rotations of each blocks.
I have an old drawing that was rotated (as it should be) at approx 2deg.
I used a lisp routine to global edit all the blocks that needed to be at zero. BUT for some reason (and after hundreds of blocks were corrected), I noticed I now have two blocks that should NOT have been in the set have had their attributes rotated to zero....and the attributes should be at the same rotation as their block's rotation.
Because those two blocks have a fixed tic mark, I can click on the mark to see what the block rotation is, then rotate its attribute to that rotation, but I have hundreds of blocks! One-at-a-time sucks....
Any chance there is a GLOBAL way to edit an attribute rotation to match its own block's rotation?
