AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Annotative Text Rotation Point When Set To Match Orientation To Layout
Aug 15, 2012
Apparently text will always rotate about the bottom left grip and not the justified grip.
This is a massive issue that makes this great feature virtually worthless.
If the text is going to rotate in multiple viewports you need it to stay in the same place!

Since it's a snow day here I have some time to work on some office stuff. I've created my new template now I want to update my blocks. Because I have to place blocks that show a direction for operation I have created 4 blocks of the same symbol-up, down, left, right. I do this because these blocks have text with them that needs to be orientated to the layout (otherwise I get a nasty letter back from the fire marshal). Now for the text that is constant I just use a annotative text style and have the text match the layout but the text that is an attribute I'm not sure if that can be annotative and match the layout as well.

Is it possible to have a dynamic block with text which, when inserted into a drawing, will show the text orientation matched to the layout? I have a non-dynamic block which is simply a donut and a piece of text. When I insert it into a drawing, the text orientation will change to suit the orientation of the layout. I created another block with the same entities but I also added a couple of lines extending out from the center of the donut. I added stretch and rotation actions in order to rotate and stretch the lines. I also gave the block visibility states so that either one or two lines would appear (the block is a utility pole,by the way, with the lines representing guy wires). When I insert the dynamic block into a drawing, I cannot get the text to match the orientation of the viewport. I've tried changing different combinations of settings but the text won't appear horizontal.
The two blocks I mentioned above are inserted into one file with a number of other blocks. When I check the properties of the non-dynamic block, the "match orientation" is set to YES. I cannot, however, change the "match to orientation" setting to YES on the dynamic block. Is this simply because it is a dynamic block or am I missing something? I don't create a lot of dynamic blocks and therefore I am not a wizard at it so I am assuming I am doing something wrong.

How can I rotate my point cloud to have the front view on the top. I want to optimize the surface creation on the lateral surface of a deck and not on the ground (top) surface. I think to rotate 90 degrees on the X or Y axis.

I have a drawing I am working on regardless of whether I use DVIEW Twist or UCS rotate I encounter the same issue. I start with MTEXT that is parallel to my intended view. However, as soon as I make it annotative and set it to Match Layout the text rotates 90-degrees and is no longer plan readable. The text lives in model space, not paper space. I've even roated the layout viewports in this specific drawing to match, and the text appears correct when viewed through a viewport, but when I jump back to model it is turned on end 90-degrees again! Have I missed a setting somewhere? Shouldnt the text reamin oriented with current view in model space?
I am uploading a link to a video which shows this problem in detail. URL...

using AutoCAD 2009 (vanilla)
I got too smart for myself today in bringing an old drawing up to current standards...Everyone seems to want their block attributes to be zero - I have blocks where the attributes are best when they match the rotations of each blocks.
I have an old drawing that was rotated (as it should be) at approx 2deg.
I used a lisp routine to global edit all the blocks that needed to be at zero. BUT for some reason (and after hundreds of blocks were corrected), I noticed I now have two blocks that should NOT have been in the set have had their attributes rotated to zero....and the attributes should be at the same rotation as their block's rotation.
Because those two blocks have a fixed tic mark, I can click on the mark to see what the block rotation is, then rotate its attribute to that rotation, but I have hundreds of blocks! One-at-a-time sucks....
Any chance there is a GLOBAL way to edit an attribute rotation to match its own block's rotation?

I have used Autocad since 1991, and my current job required me to use Microstation. One feature I liked from Microstation is the ability to select and open an external DGN reference, and then match the view of the parent DGN, called the "EXCHANGE" command. In AutoCAD, you can also select and open an xref, but the DWG opens to the previous saved view, and not to the desired view that matches the layout.
My thought was to experiment with lisp or script and export the "Viewctr", "Viewtwist" and "Viewsize" variables to a text file, then importing the text file and using the "Viewtwist" as my "SNAPANG" value, then "Viewctr" as my "ZOOM, CENTER" value, and finally the "Viewsize" as the "Enter magnification or height:" value.
But, alas, I have no time, and not quite the knowledge to duplicate MicroStation's open-xref-and-zoom-to-view feature. I hesitate using the REFEDIT, which works fine for regular AutoCAD, but not so much for Civil 3D and the objects it creates (labels and other items with data shortcuts).

i made a survey, about 2000 points with my TSC3R6. I exported my CSV file to a PNEZD file with comma seperated. When i try ti import the file (CSV then i made a .txt), C3D tells me "no point file format match found". Then I opened the txt file, searched for any error that would not let me import my points. The only thing i have found would be the description of my points that sometimes had a space between 2 words (ex: bt balast and ht balast) so i changed it to bt-balast and ht-balast. i looked further and didnt found anything else. heres a sample of my txt file:
11251,5038721.804,370118.600,52.877,69
11252,5038722.437,370118.327,52.980,82
11253,5038725.381,370117.058,54.235,81
11254,5038725.967,370117.395,54.325,bt-balast
11255,5038727.637,370116.899,54.860,ht-balast
11256,5038728.983,370116.602,54.857,balast
11257,5038730.043,370116.150,54.839,ht-balast
11258,5038731.524,370115.635,54.345,bt-balast
11259,5038731.763,370115.674,54.308,81
11260,5038733.529,370114.961,53.606,82
11261,5038734.460,370114.525,53.505,350
Now i have to draw something but i cant even find why importing points fails in C3D.
some usefull informations maybe:
windows 7 32bits SP1
autocad civil 3d 2013 (not yet activated, next week)

I am a surveyor doing an asbuilt of some ponds. I am working in the engineer's dwg. In PS, he does not scale down his drawing sheet block to 1"=1', he keeps it the same scale as model space, i.e. 1"=50'.
He has a viewport in the layout, and my Cogo Points seemed to be scaled at 1"=1', which makes them much to small, but everthing else is scaled correctly.
How can I make my Cogo Points appear bigger in PS?
I tried dbl-clicking in the viewport to be in MS, and the viewport says it's scale is 1'0" = 1'0". When I change it to 1"=50', the model view shrinks way down (the viewed area is bigger), and when I scroll to make the model view bigger, the Cogo Points are still small.
When I read the Properties of the viewport, it says:
Anno scale: 1"=50
Standard scale= 1"=50
Custom scale= 0.02
How I can get this viewport to make my Cogo Points big as they should be?

A client gave us a file in which the drawing in model space has an orientation wherein the N is in positive y-axis. But if I go to layout (viewport), the orientation of the drawing is different, N is 45 deg from the x-axis. How does the orientation of a drawing in layout (viewport) changed without changing the original orientation of the drawing in model space?

How can I revised the line type so that the text reads in the same direction. The linetype text auto adjust to read correctly in Model Space. However In the plan and profile drawing the site is rotated 90 degrees so when the text changes direction from northwest to northeast and the line text changes direction. I need for the text to be in the same direction the entire length of the line.

This is issue arises when i have been working on a drawing for a while with multiple xref/data shortcuts. The model space text is all the correct size yet once I enter a layout the annotative text relating to 3D elements such as Alignments/Profile Station/Elevation Labels shrink to 1/25 their size. Other annotative objects such as Mtext and Multileaders are not effected. Attached are before and after pictures.

I placed all my leaders (mleaders were used) and text, then I had to change my viewport rotation 180 deg. Now all my text is upside down. I change my UCS to view and new mleaders and text (which I don't need, I've already labeled everything) come in at the correct orientation, but all my original labels are rotated. How can I make these labels update? I'd really like to avoid having to relabel everything.

Where is the “annotative scale” and “paper text height” properties?
I couldn’t find the “annotative scale” and “paper text height” properties when dealing with “Civil 3D” objects such as points and contours the same way we have it in the regular AutoCAD.
For example, suppose that I need to increase to decrease the “text height” of the point label considering a particular “annotative scale” property, then how this kind of thing might be done in the AutoCAD Civil 3D?
