View 9 RepliesA client gave us a file in which the drawing in model space has an orientation wherein the N is in positive y-axis. But if I go to layout (viewport), the orientation of the drawing is different, N is 45 deg from the x-axis. How does the orientation of a drawing in layout (viewport) changed without changing the original orientation of the drawing in model space?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI love the new versions of Illustrator, but get left in the dust with new innovations that I can't figure out.
I am trying to go to File > Document Setup and all I get is a new dialog box that completely leaves out page orientation and page size as well. I just want to have an artboard that is 11" x 8 1/2" but there is nothing I see in menus or in palettes that give the old comfortable page orientation change that you used to be able to do in older versions of Illustrator. How do I set page or artboard size and orientation?
Is there anyway of changing the drawing orientation without using the pagesetup command ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to have a dynamic block with text which, when inserted into a drawing, will show the text orientation matched to the layout? I have a non-dynamic block which is simply a donut and a piece of text. When I insert it into a drawing, the text orientation will change to suit the orientation of the layout. I created another block with the same entities but I also added a couple of lines extending out from the center of the donut. I added stretch and rotation actions in order to rotate and stretch the lines. I also gave the block visibility states so that either one or two lines would appear (the block is a utility pole,by the way, with the lines representing guy wires). When I insert the dynamic block into a drawing, I cannot get the text to match the orientation of the viewport. I've tried changing different combinations of settings but the text won't appear horizontal.
The two blocks I mentioned above are inserted into one file with a number of other blocks. When I check the properties of the non-dynamic block, the "match orientation" is set to YES. I cannot, however, change the "match to orientation" setting to YES on the dynamic block. Is this simply because it is a dynamic block or am I missing something? I don't create a lot of dynamic blocks and therefore I am not a wizard at it so I am assuming I am doing something wrong.
I've got a very long narrow site where more of it would be better shown and printed on a vertical page. However all the default and custom viewports are designed specifically for horizontal pages. How can a page be rotated to be plotted vertically?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI get several dwg's a day with up to 40 layouts in each one. All the settings are correct ACCEPT the plotter. Is there a way to set all page setups for all layouts at the same time? Something like select all layouts and do a page setup for all. Possibly with LISP or VBA?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with AutoCAd LT 2014 incorrectly locating mouse clicks with respect to the change page layout arrows. In order to reproduce this error you must have enough page layouts in a drawing to highlight the arrows (bottom left) which change the layout tab. Clicking on the right (or left) arrow several times consecutively will be incorrectly identified by AutoCad as a double click on the 1st page layout visible and will execute the rename feature. However the mouse pointer is not over that layout tab, it is clearly over the right arrow.
Why does AutoCAD read a clicks in this area incorrectly and register them instead nearly 30 pixels to the right.
Any work around as I commonly use the arrows to cycle through pagelayouts in drawings which have 50+ page layouts.
I have also noticed that AutoCAD will preview page layouts when hovering the mouse over the page layout change arrows, this reinforces the belief that AutoCAd is not correctly identifying the mouse position in that area.
When i add text to a layout it plots vertical not horizontal as add and shown in the layout.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince it's a snow day here I have some time to work on some office stuff. I've created my new template now I want to update my blocks. Because I have to place blocks that show a direction for operation I have created 4 blocks of the same symbol-up, down, left, right. I do this because these blocks have text with them that needs to be orientated to the layout (otherwise I get a nasty letter back from the fire marshal). Now for the text that is constant I just use a annotative text style and have the text match the layout but the text that is an attribute I'm not sure if that can be annotative and match the layout as well.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf I'm in the layout view, I want to add a Title Border. All of my layout previews are default in Landscape. When I use the Title Border (via the ribbon) and go thru the options, it seems that my only choice is a A4 PORTRAIT border with title block.
Now my preference is to use a landscape orientation, but I can't get it to work yet.
Is there a way to automate the page orientation when plotting. Each time when doing pdf, I have to select portrait versus landscape through I believe that 297x210 or when width>height window selection could already infer a landscape selection to the program.
Also with respect to pdf printing: Is there a way to define a path for all the pdfs to go and to use the layout name as a prefix for the pdf. For additional info, I use cute pdf.

I created a new settings to print some of our drawings, I changed the page orientation from portrait to landscape and saved to a .pmp file (this is the printer settings file), closed the plotter.
I re-opened the plotter, selected the recent .pmp file, went to the orientation part and saw the portrait is in selection instead of landscape selection.
We are using AutoCad 2012 in Win 7 with OS 64-bit.
Apparently text will always rotate about the bottom left grip and not the justified grip.
This is a massive issue that makes this great feature virtually worthless.
If the text is going to rotate in multiple viewports you need it to stay in the same place!
Copied the printer configuration (pc3 and pmp) from AutoCAD 2013 to AutoCAD 2012. Plot the same drawing with that same printer configuration. With AutoCAD 2013, it plots out fine - page orientation landscape. In 2012, it plots out wrong. The orientation of the drawing is correct, but the paper is changed to portrait?
The plot setting are exactly the same in both versions.
Has the been any changes to X6 since the post re: X5?

esp. regarding spriggig's comment?
I simply need to change the orientation for printing to a RIP and X6 does not allow this -- as previous CorelDraw versions DID allow.
X6 only wants to print in Protrait orientation only -- I NEED TO PRINT IN LANDSCAPE.

I have just downloaded the 3 year trial of AutoCAD for students. I have managed to create a floor plan but struggling to amend the layout. First of all, I would like the page setup to be A3 but that is not an option on my Page Setup Manager as it will only connect to my printer size.
I am also trying to add a Title Block but again do not know what I am doing, or where to download template ones for free?
I am currently drawing my plans and realised the template: "Tutorial-mArch.dwt" is an A1 Paper Size.
I can only print A4 pages so when I compressed it to a A4, the layout of title box simply goes out of scale.
How do I scale those? If you do not mind me asking more, how do I make my title box (name scale on my own?
I had inserted a block on my model page. I then wanted to insert it on my layout page where I wanted to have a legend. The block never showed up on the layout page and now it is not on my model page. When I attempt to insert it anywhere else now, the block does not show up in the preview window of the insert popup, nor on the drawing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedTypically at my company we rotate our drawing orientation under the Projects - Drawing Setup - Orientation. Rotate the drawing to a known basis of bearings. Then we label the boundary and the bearings are rotated to match the basis of bearings without having to rotate the drawing in model space. Just reciently my labels havne't been holding the orientation. So when I add a static or dynamic label the bearing reads as though my orientation is due north. BUT, when I loook at the line priperties, the bearing is correct, as it has held the orientation.

Right now it seems like I either have to go into 3D model view and rotate the object or have to change the orientation Inventor for plan and then reorientate it for section...
