How can I locate the Data Shortcuts Working folder? A surface exist as a data shortcut in a dwg, but the location of the data shortcut folder is unknown and therefore cannot be set in the Prospector.

my colleague that is on holidays right now sent some civil 3d drawings that contain data references to another office and they are having broken reference issues with the surfaces. I opened the drawing in our office and the surfaces are there and showing the data ref symbols in prospector but when i look through the data shortcuts folder below in prospector the surfaces are not there.
how do i locate the .xml files or if they have been deleted how do these surfaces appear in my drawing.
I've been creating my shortcut folders in the folder for my project drawings. So for project A, the shortcut folder is in Ashortcuts. The reason for doing this was to make it more intuitive for finding the shortcuts down the road and to avoid having project components located outside of the parent folder.
The problem is it is becoming a nuisance to browse to the project folder to set the working folder whenever I need to switch projects. I'm now considering consolidating all the shortcut folders into a main C3D projects folder (the way C3D was set up to work), though I'm not liking having to resort to redundant folders. For now it seems the lessor of the 2 evils.
I'd like to know what procedure to follow to make this work and what problems I'll encounter. I don't have a lot of projects at this time (maybe 20).
P.S. One of the big downsides to having the shortcuts stored outside of the project folder is when the project gets archived. Unless special precautions are taken, the shortcuts will be overlooked in the archiving process.
I want to be able to repath a data shortcut I have on my drawing to a file thats on my C: drive, how do I do this? Its just for this one drawing I want to do it with, so the Data Shortcuts Editor is no good to me.

my co-worker can not setup his drawing's data shortcuts. So, we tried to set the working folder. He has no real options for working folders. There is only one project folder showing for him. how to get all of the project folders to display in the set working folder dialogue so we can select the correct project, then select the correct data shortcuts. He is using C3D 2012 on a windows 7 64 bit machine. His folders have black arrows instead of plus signs. I've attached a picture. The Monterey Projects folder should display several hundred project sub folders and you can see we only have the one folder of 2916.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have run into a problem with my Pipe Network data shortcut. When I am in a drawing that is referencing my Pipe Network not all of my structures are showing up. I confirmed this by going to the prospector tab/pipe networks/storm/structures. According to the list It is obvious that not all of my network structures are making it to the new drawing. I've double and triple checked the source drawing to make sure that all the structures actually exist and they do.
I've deleted the data shortcut and recreated it and still nothing.
Is there currently any workaround to bring in alignment descriptions when data short cutting? I have hundreds of lines that are in my drawing that need callouts and this is easily done by making a label with reference text to the alignment description.

I have two different projects I am working on, for which I set up surface data shortcuts, but the 2nd one I set up over-wrote the 1st folder and so now that surface is not properly shortcutted into that project. how to set this up, for I am new to the whole shortcutting game?

how to make a data shortcut to a pressure network? Is this feature even available? It seems odd that this feature would be left out of C3D 2013 when it is critical to plan production.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2011 Civil3D drawing with Data shortcuts in it. I need to replace the source drawing path of the data shortcut with another path. Is there a way to change this either manually or, preferably, programically. At some point we'll need to batch through the drawings and change this path information. Is this information is stored in a drawing dictionary somewhere? If so, where? If not, where?
Updating the .XML data files doesn't appear to affect data links already in the drawing.
I am having an issue with alignments not updating to the latest source drawing. Initially, the alignment source drawing was in File1.dwg. Due to a design change, a few of the alignments were revised in a new File2.dwg. For the first time ever, I used the Data Shortcuts Editor program to repoint the data shortcuts to the new File2 location. By all accounts, it looks like the data shortcut were updated to the new source drawing (File2).
The problem is in some files some of the alignments still source to the File1 location and even when manually synchronizing it still sources from File1. Additionally, it seems random in terms of which alignment and files source to File2, even to the point in some files one alignment will update to File2 and other won't and some alignments will update in some files but not all. Note that I am not the original creator of the files so I don't know much history on the files (no alignments seem promoted however).
What’s the best way for me to get all the alignments to point to the new data shortcut source drawing location?
How do you move a survey database and data shortcuts? Without going into details, sometimes it is necessary to copy portion of projects as new projects. The survey database along with the drawings our surface, points, linework, etc. need to reference the new directory. I can set the survey database folder location to the new path but am not certain the information in the dwg is point to the correct location.
The same essentially applies to the data shortcuts. I'm having trouble getting this to work. With LD we were able to copy the project and resuscitate the drawing(s). I tried to use Data Shortcut Editor with the Saveas. I then attempted to rename the dwg's and path the new location and name but receive an error of Invalid source file. Correct the path or press Esc..
For a roadway project I am creating alignment detail sheets. For the first project, only a portion of the final road is being constructed. I have the proposed alignment brought in with data shortcuts and will use various styles for the labeling. But I only need a few different sections of this alignment to be shown. Is there a way I can set clip boundaries or mask out the sections I don't want to show?

Occasionally I get the following message when trying to add data shortcuts.
"The drawing has not been saved yet, please save the drawing before creating data shortcuts" Only I have saved, this still occurs after either a full or quick save.
Shutdown Civil and reopen still gives the same message..The problem seems to be when you are saving to any other version of Autocad than R2010. Save as R2010 and it works.Mike Evans

I'm trying to find out what could be the cause of sturcture styles in a Pipe Network Design Drawing resetting to default styles when I Data Shortcut the design into my Sheet? (I.e. I've got gate valves, fh's, and plugs in my design file, but when I data shortcut them into my sheet they are all come in as null structures) Not Cool!
I'm using the same template that contains all the same parts/styles for both design and sheet.
I have a data shortcut file where i keep my EG surface that now has File Name.dwg [DS] [DS] [DS] [DS]. What's the deal? Has this managed to morph itself into something it's not. It used to have only one, had two for awhile, and now 4 references to the DS (Datashort cut project folder).
Have I done something wrong here to get these wonky file names, would be nice to see just 1 reference being made to my DS Project folder.
I made a pipe network in one drawing, d-reffed it to another, drew parts in profile.
Then I realised that I needed to show the outside walls of some pipes in profile. We don't normally display them. And I found that the wall thickness was wrong. I eventually figured out how to edit the wall thickness, and I have it working right in the source drawing. (I had to swap parts to get it to update.) But the host drawing is not updating.
So if I go to pipe properties in the source drawing, it gives a wall thickness of 165mm (correct). If I go to the same pipe in the host drawing, and go the the pipe properties, the wall thickness is 75mm (wrong).
how to trigger an update? I've swapped parts back and forth to different sizes, synchronized, SetNetworkCatalog and done PartCatalogRegen in both drawings.

I've got a drawing that has a data referenced pipe network (C3D2014). Everytime the pipe network is syncronized the pipes and structures change their styles back to what I can only assume to be their default. I can not find where to change this style or behavior.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some difficulty using the XREF/Block insertion using 'Locate using Geographic Data'. This does not seem to locate anything using Geographic Info. I have found a large discrepancy with this process in the order of 100's of meters. I am using SA-17S (dwg 1) in my drawing and WGS84-17S (dwg 2) in the drawing I want to insert.
When I attach dwg 2 to dwg 1 and set the coordinate systems using the assign coordinate system and query in data, everything matched and is coincidental, but when I insert or XREF using the 'Locate using Geographic Data', there is an enormous error.
I know that there is a short cut or hot key that allows one to move from one folder to a previous folder. As, for exaple, to jump between folder ALPHA to folder ZEBRA. I have searched and cannot find it.

I have a master shape file that contains parcel ID, owner, tax info., etc. I have another file ( access 2003 -open to better file format suggestions-) which contains parcel ID and a "yes" or " no" entry for whether or not the parcel needs a new water meter. All I want to do is add the water meter information into the other shape file. This would create one shape file with one table with all the information that I need.
Ultimately I will use the information to do a map query and find out spatially where i need new water meters.
Right now i have the master shape file connected though the “Connect to Data” feature. I also have the new data added to the drawing though the Data sources------>attach under the “Map Explorer” Task pane. I attached access file (ver. 2003 .mdb) which has two columns “Parcel ID” and “Meter”.
I right click on the shape file under the display manager and select”Create a Join;” however my water meter table is not listed as an option. Will this not work?
Plan B - I tried to Create and connect to the access file as an ODBC connection. Followed this guy’s directions to a T [URL]. But when i populate my table under the fdo connection the column headings exist ( “parcel ID” and “Meter”) but the actual data is missing. Am I missing something important?
Note: I am running c3d 2012 on a Win 7 64 Bit machine. I also removed office 32 bit apps and installed 64 bit apps to see if that would solve the problem. No go.
say you make some parcels in your project with custom data fields like: id_no, permit_no, acres_served etc. you attach an agency provided shape file via an fdo connection that has many fields of information like above.
when you right click on your parcel and do parcel properties you get a tab that lets you input the custom parcel data.
lets say you print an fdo map label showing, say, the id_no, provided in the shape file. Then in your custom parcel properties for id_no you type that in.
is there a way to make an expression to put in the other custom parcel properties that will read, say, the permit_no(id_no) from the fdo like and put that information in the custom parcel property field?
I'm having problems getting super elevation data to transfer to different drawings by means of an alignment data shortcut. I know alignments hold the super elevation data so I've gone into my alignments data shortcut, input my super elevation data, saved and closed. Now when I open my finished grade drawing, reference in my alignment and profiles, then create a corridor from that information, my super elevation didn't transfer with the reference.
I pulled cross sections and it appears is has no clue there is any super elevation data. Also, I tried bringing it directly into the drawing I'm doing my corridors in and it erred saying I must be in the parent alignment drawing. Data shortcuts are pretty much useless to me if super elevation data doesn't transfer.

i have created a data band in profile view that should show a created profiles elevation, but some of the the data fields are missing irregulary. Also in the data band that shoud show the diferenece betven the tow profiles - EG and the new profile the data is missing. The EG profiles data and the surface are ok all is shown.

1. "Home tab>>Data panel>>>insert An Image" - The data panel is missing and it's also not found in "customize palettes"
2. Trying the data connect route does not work either: Display manager>>>Data>>>Connect To Data - There is no 'Data' option and I cannot connect to Data.
I have element 11 on two computers and want to move a folder with data from one to the other
