I know that there is a short cut or hot key that allows one to move from one folder to a previous folder. As, for exaple, to jump between folder ALPHA to folder ZEBRA. I have searched and cannot find it.
View 4 RepliesI've been trying to move folders within the library in LR5. The new folder is created and the raw files are moved ok. However, xmp files are generating error messages. Also, any other files in the folder are causing the same issue. After the raw files are moved over the original folder remains in the library, although it is now empty. It can be removed from the library subsequently.Also, after checking the "new" folder in windows explorer it appears that the xmp files have been moved after all.
I'm using a Chillblast photo oc desktop with i7 overclocked at 4.5 Ghz, 32Gb of Ram, Win 8 64 bit professional. The original folder was on a fast SSD scratch disk and was being transferred to a 1TB RAID backup drive.Problem with LR, Win 8, or file permissions? LR3, LR4, on win XP or Win 7 machines.

I have transferred some folders from my internal drive to an external (FW) drive. Whereas most of the transfer worked fine, I had the following problems:
- one folder (at least) completely disappeared from LR. The files were moved to the new HDD (I can see them in Finder), an empty folder remains in LR under the "old" drive and there is nothing in LR at the new position.
- an empty structure remained at the location of the old files
- on some folders, I had the message "could not complete the folder move..." and only part of the pictures (or none at all) were moved.
I'm using LR 5.0 in a Windows 7/64 environment.
1. When attempting to rename a folder, why do I get this message: "The folder XYZ could not be renamed or moved."? It only happens to certain folders but not others. I may come back to that folder several days later and the problem won't reoccur.
2. When moving a group of files from one folder location to another, all but maybe one or two will move. Although I receive an error, I try moving those two again, and they move normally.
When I try to move folders or pix selected individually between my hard drive and external drive withing Lightroom 5 an error message pops up unable to copy to destination...

I have Lightroom place images in folders on import according to date taken, e.g. 2011 -> 12 -> 31 -> 2011 12 31_001.jpg.
Since importing a lot of images, I have changed their metadata dates due timezone issues or camera dates set wrong. So a photo imported in 2011->12->31 actually now belongs in 2012->01->01. How do I get Lightroom to automatically go through my whole catalogue and move them? I don't mind if all my files get renamed. I though of removing them all from my catalogue and the re-imprting, but won't that lose all my edits?
When I move folders between catalogs how do I save my rating system ( flags, stars etc.) Also how can I move a collection between catalogs?

I need to copy to folders, photos, and edits from my laptop to the LR on my desktop. I'd like to get them into the LR on my desktop with the original photo as well as the edits as oppossed to exporting the edited photos. I've done this before and forgot how to do it. I re-imported these folders into Lightroom and they showed up under the external HD. However, all of the colour coding/ratings and even the adustments I have made to the images are not visibible. Is there a way I can correct this?
2. I've also imported a number of folders to Lightroom that were originally colour coded/rated in Bridge and edited in Adobe Camera RAW. Again the edits that I made to these and the ratings info is not visible. Is there a way I can change this?
3. Is there a way to search for duplicates within a particular folder or within the whole library?
I've been creating my shortcut folders in the folder for my project drawings. So for project A, the shortcut folder is in Ashortcuts. The reason for doing this was to make it more intuitive for finding the shortcuts down the road and to avoid having project components located outside of the parent folder.
The problem is it is becoming a nuisance to browse to the project folder to set the working folder whenever I need to switch projects. I'm now considering consolidating all the shortcut folders into a main C3D projects folder (the way C3D was set up to work), though I'm not liking having to resort to redundant folders. For now it seems the lessor of the 2 evils.
I'd like to know what procedure to follow to make this work and what problems I'll encounter. I don't have a lot of projects at this time (maybe 20).
P.S. One of the big downsides to having the shortcuts stored outside of the project folder is when the project gets archived. Unless special precautions are taken, the shortcuts will be overlooked in the archiving process.
How can I locate the Data Shortcuts Working folder? A surface exist as a data shortcut in a dwg, but the location of the data shortcut folder is unknown and therefore cannot be set in the Prospector.

I would like to save room on my C drive by moving most of the folders associated with CS2 and currently under "My Documents", onto another drive. I looked in the CS2 preferences but cannot find the controls to do that.

The folder where the daily folder was dragged from is now empty but those folders do not appear in the recieving folder. All the photos are still in the catalog, but do not show in the folders (left side panel).

I can't work on pictures from these folders - I get the message: File named xxx is offline or missing. It does not sync the parent folder. Nor does it sync the folder it self. If I right clik on a LR4 folder with a ?, and try to locate the folder, I only get the option to merge the identical folders. Is there any way to sort this. I can't restore the old folder names.

View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing the "Folder Location" view in PSE 10, I have successfully moved all but one of my photo folders from a problematic user account into a new user account on my PC. One stubborn folder will not be moved, with PSE 10 incorrectly citing that "No files from this folder have imported into Elements Organizer."
I restarted PSE 10 multiple times, repeated the process, and even followed the instructions to "Right click on the folder and select 'Import to Organizer.'" The latter action, of course, imported nothing because the 3,000+ files in that file already exist in the Organizer.
As an experiment, I successfully used Windows Explorer to move the folder (don't worry, I undid the move before PSE 10 had a chance to disconnect the files from the Organizer) to the new user account. No problems with that temporary move, but I'm not interested in waiting for PSE 10 try to reconnect all 3,000+ files if I made that my permanent solution.
How can I move multiple folders at one time in the folder list rather than having to move each folder one at a time? I am trying to move all my folders from 2013 into a 2013 folder in PSE 11.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am using LR3. I appear to be digging a massive hole for myself trying to sort out the catalog. When I first got LR, I had initially added just a small number of files just to see how LR worked. At this time I was still completing sorting out my full photo collection in 'my pictures' which were also copied to two external hard drives. Once that work was completed, I imported a complete folder (some 4000 images) into LR. The folder/subfolders appeared in the folders panel but the sub folders I had initially imported were displayed with a ? and a message 'file is missing or offline' Going down the road of 'find missing folder' eventually led to my problems.
About 6 sub folders are involved so I eventually took the decision that it could be easier just to remove them so I could then re-import them from 'my pictures'. That hasn't worked out as planned. When I go into 'file' to import photos from 'my pictures' the missing sub folders are there but the images are 'greyed' as well as the import button. When I put the cursor onto one of the greyed-out images the message 'appears to be a duplicate of another photo already in catalog' appears.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."
Is there a way to add a keyboard shortcut or marking menu shortcut for visibility? It would be really convenient to be able to shift-click several objects and toggle the visibility of them. I have a mouse with numerous buttons that are mapped to commonly used IV features, but I cannot find a way to map a visibility toggle.

I have a main folder called Family with sub folders for all the years and in each of the subfolders there could be other subfolders. It wouldn't allow me to click on main folder and get all sub folders. I had to open main folder and then it shows all folders and sub folders separately. They are no longer nested.
Along the same lines, I wanted to create an album of Family with all subfolders, but that doesn't work.that is definitely a short coming which is why I never have used the organizer program, but just PSE for editing.
As I right click to rename a folder in the library folder panel, I get a window saying 'This is not a legal folder name. Certain special characters are not permitted.' As an example, I have a name followed with a date such as 120926 james bond and I want to reverse the name and date to james bond 120926. There are no special characters in there.

View 2 Replies View RelatedImages and folders added in LR5 are showing up separate from those in LR4. The drive appears twice, with the folders added before the upgrade and now with the folders added since. If I do "show in finder" it knows they are in the same drive location.
How can I consolidate them in the left sidebar?
I Moved the folder for the month of February in Finder....went to LR4 to reconnect them and only 3 of the 4 folders within February reconnected....I tried re-importing the 4th folder again from the SD card and it won't, saying the files already exist....if I can't reconnect and can't reimport.....how am I supposed to get access to these files from LR4?.....if I'm in Finder and I click on the files in the folder they open in CS6....so the files are on my computer.....
