AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Set Default Plotter And Plot Style
Aug 17, 2012
I am trying to set default plotter and plot style so I dont have to select every time but AutoCAD is not keeping the setting. I went to "Options", "Plot & Publish" and selected my plotter I want to be default but it's not keeping that setting. I also changed the default plot style under "Plot Style Table Settings" under "Plot & Publish" but AutoCAD is not keeping that setting as well. URL...
How does one convert an stb file to ctb. I have tried using the CONVERTPSTYLES command to no avail. After selecting the stb for conversion, i am getting an error message stating that the stb does not contain a color mapping table and cannot be used to convert drawings.
Any way to automatically substitute a default plot style table when it is set to ‘None’ in existing drawings?

I applied a default plot style table in the ‘Options > Plot and Publish > Plot Style Table Settings’ dialog box, but it doesn’t seem to take effect for existing drawings or when I create new drawings.

My goal is that when I open a drawing where the plot style table is set to ‘None’ it will instead apply my default CTB file.
I am trying to change the default label styles for AddSegmentLabel under general styles using .NET...
Dim X As Autodesk.Civil.Settings.SettingsCmdAddSegmentLabel = CD.Settings.GetSettings(Of Autodesk.Civil.Settings.SettingsCmdAddSegmentLabel)()
X.Styles.LineLabel.Value = strChildStyleName ... says name does not exist
or
X.Styles.LineLabelStyleId.Value = oidChildStyle ... "The type of objectId is wrong"
If I manually change it to a child style and then check the values, they are the same as what I'm trying to set them to. If you use a "parent" style then these both work. Am I doing something wrong or this another limitation?
Civil 3D 2013 - Windows 7 Pro 64 - Dell T3500 - Xeon 2.67 - 24gb - Quadro 600
In AutoCAD 2014 and ASD2013 I cannot choose one of the printer, which is installed on Windows (OCE TDS600). It is strange, because Autocad sees it on the list of available plotters, but when I try to select it - it automaticly changes to "None".
The plotter is properly configured - I can print with it from Revit 2013 without any problems. Also when I switch account to any other (on that same computer) everything works fine.
I tried to add this plotter through "Add-A-Plotter Wizard", but each time I obtain an error massage "Autodesk Hardcopy component failed..."
Say I draw some lines on layer "0" and use the "block" command to make a new block. Next, I insert that block I just made onto some layer "X".
I am using .stb.
How can I control the plot style of the block?
Also, if the block is used as a civil 3d object, say a pipes structure, where does the plot style in structure properties fit into the hierarchy?
I have tried changing all the following variables to no affect: layer "0" plot style, layer "X' plot style, object properties plot style, stucture style plot style

I'm looking to get a "template" or example with layers and plot styles for erosion control plans.
I have recently started with a new company and I'm one of the few that use AutoCAD. I have been unable to locate a good plot style or layers for any type of detailed plans. I know how to create plot styles, but I didn't know if there was a place to find "templates" or a drawing to copy the layers and a plot style.
So i've got a profile of a waterline. To show my valves, bends, tees, etc. I made a style for each and used null structures set to no plot for my plan view and made blocks for each appurtenance to be projected for the profile view.
This job is going to bid with two separate contracts and there is one sheet of overlap. I need to show some pipes and appurtenances proposed on one sheet and existing on another.
The one problem i'm having is controlling the plot style of the blocks in profile view, I've tried changing the structure style, making a new layer putting the block on that and changing the layer plot style, everything I can think of. I need it to be controlled via a vp plotstyle setting because I have another sheet where it needs to be displayed differently.

We use STB plot style tables for all of our drawings. I have several general note styles setup in Civil 3D 2012. When you pull the note text out so that you have a leader, the leader does not plot per the plot style assigned to the layer that the note is set to display on on the General tab. It appears as the proper color and freezes with the layer properly, but it plots with the settings of the plot style assigned to layer 0. Is there a reason that the leaders don't use the plot style setting form the layer it is displayed on?
I have several SHP Connections that I am using as background. I can use the Style Editor to get the individual SHP Lines/Polygons/blocks to be the appropriate colors for the information that they include (Property Lines, Buildings, Utilities, etc)
The problem is in plotting this information. The settings in my tried and true .ctb file don't seem to apply to the SHP data. Everything else that actually exists in the drawing behaves correctly, but the SHP data plots as it appears on the screen.
Whenever I plot the 3d drawings in PDF or in our plotter, Some lines or some drawings are not shown in the printed layout. sample.jpg. try to check the red circle, there should be other stuff inside it. and in the second circle the one with the line should have a line itself, i just put some red lines to show in the drawing, but please try to check all.
When bringing in some figures that don't match the figure prefix database in a drawing with a set default style for figures (settings tab>survey>edit feature settings) it is being ignored and the "standard" style is being created and used. Is there another setting?
A way to associate a default profile style with a surface. In other words, I would like to set a different default profile style for each surface. Same could be true for sections.
Civil 3D 2011, updates installed - I have a user who is manually importing points into his drawing. He has set the default label style in his command settings to a specific style, but no matter what he does the points come in with the previously set default style (the out-of-the-box label style). We've tested this in a new drawing with the same results. We've tested this on several computers with the same results.
My initial thought was that something on the network was holding this setting somehow. We disconnected his computer from the network with the same results.
I have set the default style for the drawing to a certain style by going to toolspace - settings and right clicking on point and clicking on edit feature settings ...under default styles i set it to the one I want for both point style and point label style......how come when I create a few manual points and then go to the prospector tab and right click on _all points, the point label style is not set to the default one I set it to as I described above? The points are not coming in the way I want them to?
So I noticed that my data reffed pipes were reverting back to their default styles in my production drawings. This wasn't a problem with SP1. I made a support call to our reseller and they mentioned that the only work around was to completely uninstall Civil3d, then reinstall back to SP1. He mentioned that he was passing the information on to Autodesk and he would let me know if they had a fix. Naturally that kind of timing or solution doesn't really work for me. This problem will effect any drawing I have that has pipes in it.
I want to know what you have done to work around this? Is there a better solution than uninstalling Civil3d?
I recently stopped using my HP755 plotter and am now plotting "dwg to pdf". The problem is when I go to plot I get a warning message stating that "this plotter configuration cannot be used" and it goes on to list a few reasons why and selects the "none" plotter. Then when at the plot setup page I can continue to plot as I normally would. Why am I getting this warning and how do I stop it?
Can I apply a default style to points with a raw description not in the description key sets?
When I import survey points into the drawing my description keys will assign specifed styles (and therefore layers) to descriptions it recognises, and a default style (and layer) to ones it does not recognise.
Then if i change raw descriptions in the drawing I can "Apply description keys" and have the styles and layers change based on the changes I made to the raw description. This is fine for descriptions in the key set.
Can I get Civil3D to apply the default style to points that did have a description that is in the DKS but has now been changed to one that is not? As it works for me now, these points remain unchanged in there layer and style.
I just got Autocad 2000i as an upgrade from 13 and 14. I have a summagraphics HiPlot 7200.It was set as a windows system printer on the old autocad versions, 2000i will not accept the widows driver (which works great on the old systems) and i have to use hpgl emulation wich sucks on 2000i
We recently made the switch from R14 to 2000. In the LONG process of trying to figure out plotting in 2000, I ended up having a lot of plotter names to select from when I go to plot. We have 2 HP 450C plotters and 2 printers (HP5000N & HP 1220C) and I only have one pc3 file for each on the server. I want to nknow how to remove some of the plotter names from ACAD and have only the 2 plotters and 2 printers to choose from when you go to plot.
I was wondering if there is a way to set the plotter to cut directly after the drawing. i have changed the setting to extent but it still prints the whole page size.
I'm trying to plot a pdf file that is approx 1MB. We have a HP designjet 500 plus, with 32MB of Ram. When I try to plot it though, The plotter displays a messag: 'Out of memory. Data Lost'. I unfortunately only have the PDF file. Is there any way for me to plot this file?
I tried to print it as a pdf by using a virtual pdf printer, but the end result is the same.
How to alter AutoCADs' default plotter so that when I "publish" it will be the plotter that I use here most commonly in the office and I can use the default name given so I do not have to do a "page setup" every time I want to plot more than one page. I would like to select the pages that I am interested in publishing and go.
(also, I am using AutoCAD 2013 LT so LISP's are not a possibility)
I need to change printer/plotter (maybe PC3 file) on my drawings. For example I have 'printerN.pc3' setted and I need to set 'PrinterM.pc3'. Also need to change print scale. But since I have many drawing I need somithing thatcan do iy automatically. So what I need:
I need to replace specific plotter to anither plotter:
1. For example if plotter setted to "HP" -> change to "Canon"
2. If paper size (2) is A3, set Plot scale (3) to 1:1.015, if Paper size (2) - A4, set Plot scale (3) to 1:1.02
I have problem with AutoCAD DWG to PDF printer. When I use a vector drawing with a raster map attached and print the layout with the DWG to PDF printer, all the vector elements looks perfect in the output pdf file, but the raster image is almost unreadable. It doesn't work if I increase print resolution and it looks if there would be some kind of default jpeg compression inside this printer but there aren't any settings to control it or simply turn it off. After plotting such a drawing on the HP plotter it is so awful that there is no use of such a file.
I get this message when I go to print in acad 2008.The following shortcuts in the plotter search were invalid and ignored: (invalid path is displayed here...) ending with .ink.The path exists and yet it says invalid and ignored. I hit OK and it continues to the plot dialog and everything works. How to correct the path or disable the dialog... I looked in the options/files(tab)/printer support file path and they are setup to our printers, but the error continues to pop up.
I don't need the capability to print directly to a plotter, but I need to set up a dummy plotter to generate plt files that will be changed to tif files with our Kip. Any plotter driver that works for this situation? Every one I have tried has generated a plt file, but the Kip would not convert it or open it.
Whenever I attempt to print, I get the warning message below referring to a printer that I do not have. I presume it's an AutoCAD default setting, but I cannot find any place allowing me to change this default. It eventually prints, since as the warning message says, it then substitutes my Mac's default printer, Is there any way to change the AutoCAD setting.
I am a Mac user and new to AutoCAD. I am enrolled in a CAD class this semester and the instructor for my session is requiring Windows. Supposedly this is because AutoCAD for Mac does not allow for proper printing on their plot style setting.
I understand that I can install Bootcamp and Windows on my computer, but I'd really like to avoid that if I can. If I were to do my work on my Mac and then digitally transfer my files to a PC for printing purposes, would my files become corrupted or compromised in any way?
I have a question about plotting at Canon plotter (Canon imagePROGRAF iPF750) with possible has feature to plot as a drawn area.
Simply say I want to specified only one custom/roll paper size, make it custom size as a default. After that I want to plot exactly the accurate drawn area from my dwg. So with this settings I cannot specified custom paper size for each unique dwg.
For example I'm using this settings with another plotting device -- Xerox WF (picture to see the chosen settings) and working like a charm.
